Use of APE in a production environment?

We are looking at moving to a APE->filesystem implementation in zope 2.7, I've got a few questions: 1. Is anyone using this setup in a production environment - have there been any problems with stability or performance? 2. Has anyone figured anything out to populate the cache upon startup? 3. What has been the performance hit, if any? 4. have you had any problems using subversion/cvs with the objects on the APE/Filesystem volume, especially when using multiple branches for development? I actually tracked this back to an issue with the Plone CMF running on top of the site. All of my other rewrites/VHM etc... are working as expected. Somewhere in the config it is setting a value "portal_url" = <domain>/Plone. I'm working through the Plone documentation now to find why it's getting set by default to that. There is a portal_url object in all 3 main folders, I'm just not sure where to remove the default. For some reason that variable is not being rewritten like everything else. I found that the "cookie crumbler" is writing portal_url before the virtual host settings are read. There doesn't appear to be a patch, and it's not slated to be fixed any time soon from the bug report I found on plone.org. If you have more you have misunderstood it. I think it's a better idea to rewrite webdav to port 80. At other ports your customers will most likely get problems with firewalls. Zope/CVS/SVN - Options?

I am curious as to how people are approaching source code management, especially in environments where there are several developers and where branches are being used as sandboxes. We are currently using RevisionManager, but we haven't been using this in conjunction with branches, has anyone been doing this, and if so, what has your experience with this been? (longer text of our current practice and where we would like to go is at the end.) Is there a standard accepted practice for using source code control with zope (especially for stuff that would be stored in the ZODB), or is Zope most often being used in an environment where this isn't necessary? Comments/ suggestions are appreciated. Sincerely, Kelly McDonald. For historical reasons, almost all of our code/business logic is contained in the ZODB in the form of python scripts/ DTML, etc. (data is stored in a SQL server, postgres) We realize that it would be better to get that stuff out of the ZODB, but we didn't know that when we started, so now we are stuck with a codebase that is all in the ZODB. We have been using Revision Manager to keep our changes in CVS, but we haven't been using branches at all. This has worked OK with two developers, however as we are adding a third and possibly a fourth (sorry, already on staff, not hiring right now!), we see branches as a requirement. I realize that RM has some options for using branches, but it doesn't seem particularly efficient when compared to using cvs/svn directly on the FS. We are currently looking at APE with a file system volume (see my previous post) but are uncertain if APE has been proven yet, even though it has a 1.0 version. For us, the holy grail would be able to have all of our objects on the file-system for source control, and be able to use GUI tools for cvs/svn (no flames please, I prefer CLI, but we have developers who are used to VB,etc) and not take a performance hit for doing any of this. -- Kelly McDonald <w4kpm(a)adelphia.net>

Session to session id to session

I've got an application that sort of looks like this: def _fooLogin(self, u, p): if self.SQLTestLogin(u=u, p=p): self.REQUEST.SESSION.set('_loggedin', self.SQLUserFoo(u)) return 1 return 0 def mylogin(self, u, p): if self._fooLogin(u, p): return str(self.REQUEST.SESSION.id) Then in another context but under the same zope instance, this id that mylogin() returns will be passed to another method. That other method should try to get the session object back if not expired. How do I do that? I was hoping for something like this:: def getMyGirlfriends(self, sessionid): session = self.GetSessionById(sessionid) if session.get('_loggedin'): return ... Does anybody know how to do this? WebDAV and Virtual Hosting

I am currently running Zope in a shared hosting arrangement. Apache is acting as the front end proxy and doing re-writes for the 2 Plone Sites I have inside my Zope installation. My Directory structure looks something like Root - Plone (default site) - www.domain1.com <http://www.domain1.com/> - www.domain2.com <http://www.domain2.com/> With apache dealing with my rewrites the following works properly http://www.domain1.com:80/ <http://www.domain1.com/> -> renders /www.domain1.com/ http://www.domain2.com:80/ <http://www.domain2.com/> -> renders /www.domain2.com/ However webdav requests end up http://www.domain1.com:9800/ -> renders /Plone http://www.domain2.com:9800/ -> renders /Plone Structurally I have Root - Virtual Host Monster (no mappings) - Plone (default site) o SiteRoot (blank) - www.domain1.com <http://www.domain1.com/> - www.domain2.com <http://www.domain2.com/> I've tried a half dozen combinations of SiteRoots and Virtual Host monsters in various folders with various mappings. Image as a Property of a ZClass

I have created a ZClass, "BookReview", as a subclass of ZDTMLDocument to hold book reviews. The document ("raw" property) contains the review, and I have created a property sheet, "Properties", to contain variables such as: -bookTitle -bookAuthor -bookPageLength -reviewer The BookReview class has a method, "index_html", that orchestrates this information into a standardized presentation. I would like to add the ability to add an image of the book cover to the property sheet, similar to the way that someone can add an icon to a ZClass in the basic view. The closest thing I have seen is adding the ObjectManager class to the base of "BookReview" and creating a method to upload a file into it. This however does not allow our writers/editors to accomplish this task from within the Properties view of the instance of "BookReview" they just created. Any advice, direction, or better method would be appreciated.

Memory Leak?

We have a site that 'eats' memory. Within hours of a restart it consumes 600+ MB of RAM. It's a busy, but not hugely busy site. It's running the following: Python 2.3.3/Zope 2.7.0/Plone It has installed (and uses) several products, including CMFPhoto, CMFPhotoAlbum, CMFBoard and others. Taking a look in the Control Panel and the Debug information I show a a lot of the following type of Refcounts: DateTime.DateTime.DateTime: 63436 Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper: 42944 BTreee.IIBTree.IIBTree: 11363 BTrees.IOBTree.IOBucket: 10169 Products.PageTemplates.Expressions.SubPathExpr: 9391 Persistence.PersistentMapping: 6522 BTrees.OOBTree.OOBucket: 6322 (and others) These numbers are only after 10 hours of use or so. And the top two refcounts continue to grow by the hundreds and thousands. Is there probably a memory leak somewhere? Zope 2.7.3b3 Change

I am about to upgrade from 2.6.3 to 2.7.3b3. I note in the change log -- o Make TransientObjectContainer __setstate__ actually work. Upgrades should be flawless from Zope 2.7.0, 2.7.1, and 2.7.2. Upgrades from 2.6.3 will work, but data may not be retained. I am not sure what the implications are here. Can someone explain?
