Production Advice

Greetings All, After a long dev cycle, I'm putting a Zope web app into production shortly... and need some advice. What is a good daily backup strategy with Zope 2.71? I'll be running ZEO, and only use three add-on products, Formulator, VarImage and PIL. My application consists of regular items in the ZODB, two python Products, and a half-dozen ZClasses Right now, I'm developing on a WinXP machine, and am considering SuSE 9.1 for my spec, any experiences, good or bad?... YAST2-installed or manually? All advice would be helpful as I weigh my options, -Jon Cyr cyrj(a)cyr.info

manage_beforeDelete

Hi all! I have a class like these: class Test(CatalogAware, , OrderedFolder): def manage_beforeDelete(self, item, container): CatalogAware.manage_beforeDelete(item, container) OrderedFolder.manage_beforeDelete(item, container) I only put the relevant code If I delete de hook to manage_beforeDelete the class works fine (the objects disappear from the catalog) but if I put the function the catalog don't delete the objects any idea? Thanks!!

doc string rules

I just had LocalFS break under Zope 2.6.4 with Python 2.3.4 due to a "missing docstring". What are the current rules? Must everything (procedures, methods, classes, modules) have docstrings? Even when running with Z_DEBUG_MODE set to "yes".

ZServer/ZPublisher proxying, or move to "full zope"; need consultant

Hi all, I'm trying to get ZServer to serve a ZPublisher webapp. Previosly we used PCGI directly with apache (evolved from bobo days). Would like to move pieces into "full zope" land over time but have immediate need to get off the PCGI/apache solution as it has been hard to get/keep running on different Linux platforms. I have gotten it mostly running under ZServer fairly easily but resulted in a problem (#2) mentioned below. 1. Our website has html and img content (as well as dtml), which I understand ZServer won't serve. This seems to push me into either (a) apache proxying so that apache can serve html/imgs (results in problem #2 below), or (b) running full Zope via another URL path (having two zhttp_handler's in z2.py), and serving html/imgs from there (requiring me to change all refs to 'em). Suggestions? 2. Can SiteAccess fix the apache proxy BaseLocation URL problem for a ZPublisher/ZServer web app? I read the page (http://zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver) about using Evan Simpson's SiteAccess to fix the BaseLocation problem but it requires "full zope" and I'm running a ZPublisher webapp through ZServer. Any way to use this to hardwire a fix in ZServer? 3. Is there any way to pull a ZPublisher app into "full Zope" wholecloth as one big external method? I remember Amos mentioning this as possibility a while back. If not, would appreciate any pointers to docs or descriptions of how much work it is to bring it in a piece at a time. I have tried this route a little bit, but got pretty swamped in "import hell." 4. I would like to find a zope consultant to help us with problems like this on an hourly pay basis for a community website we run. Person should have several years zope-related programming experience, including experience with ZServer/ZPublisher. Folks, We've had a number of requests from customers to allow bulk upload of images and various content types (Open Office documents, etc.) into a Zope/Plone Content Management System. There doesn't seem to be any standard way of doing this built into Zope. The question I have is "Why?" Has the Zope Corporation ever considered building this functionality into their FTP or WebDAV server? I'd like to see something like the following: 1. User has a folder on his Linux/Windows file system with one or more content types (images, OO docs,Word docs, etc.) 2. User does a drag and drop to a WebDAV folder which appears to the client to be just another folder on the disk. 3. The webDav server automatically determines the content type and creates it in the selected target folder using the appropriate factory when it receives the file, and uses the "file" factory if it can't automatically determine the file type...
