Joe, Hmmm, well yes, Zope is multi-threaded ... But this only means that one thread does one piece of work at a time ... In a production environment, there's nothing preventing 2 threads from processing 2 similar requests for an Excel conversion, in which ase you'd run into the issues I mentionned. Apart from that I can't help much more ... Your best bet would be with ActiveState support or the win32all mailing lists, if any ... To convert PPT's on demand to HTML in my case, but I looked at using Python's COM features to do it (Regular Python + win32all, not ActiveState's). Hello Again, I've been working on a Zope application and one of the tasks is to integrate the web reports with Excel. I've got some financial reports that the user can browse through using a web interface. What I'm trying to do is have a link on the page that will download the report they're viewing into a local Excel worksheet. I decided to use com because I want the worksheet to have colors, print settings, formatting, etc. I already have working code in VB. I've looked into XML and Pyxlwriter but it looks like a new learning curve compared to just translating my VB com commands into Python. I'm using Visual Studio .Net 2003 with Active Python as my development environment. When I submit the URL that creates the XL worksheet in development, it works like a top. In testing, I've generated 50 different worksheets without any problems. When I try to run the same code in Zope I have problems. Under Zope, I take the submitted URL and create a worksheet that I save to a file. Then I return a meta command to redirect the browser to the newly created file which is downloaded to the users computer. The good news is that it works perfectly - sometimes. Other times I get this error message; Module ExcelReport, line 48, in __init__ Module win32com.client, line 95, in Dispatch Module win32com.client.dynamic, line 91, in _GetGoodDispatchAndUserName Module win32com.client.dynamic, line 79, in _GetGoodDispatch com_error: (-2147221008, 'CoInitialize has not been called.', None, None) The error message is coming back from the line; XLApp = Dispatch("Excel.Application"). The really strange thing is that the error seems to be random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't been able to determine any rhyme or reason to it. When I restart Zope, it will work one to as many as 10 times. Then I'll get the error message. If I keep trying the same URL, it might eventually work or I may have to restart Zope to get it working again. Does anyone have any idea as to what's going on here? Need to programmatically change image content

Hello, I need to programmatically replace the 'content' (e.g. the image file data, if I grok correctly) of an Image object with new data via file upload from web form. I imagine I could just delete the existing object and then add the new one... Lost the path to my DTMLFile in my product

Hello, I've written a python product that loads DTML pages from a /dtml folder in my product... works fine. When I moved my environment to Linux, Zope is still looking on my old heirarchy. cookie crumbler - preserving variables in URL

I'm using cookie crumbler for authentication Often, the pages that require authentication have a variables on the end of the URL. http://www.site.org/updateListing_html?pid=22 After authentication, these variables get dropped generating an error for the dropped variable redirects to: http://www.site.org/updateListing_html How can I modify the cookie crumbler methods to pass these variables and redirect to the proper URL? thanks -- David

Interest in continued Oracle support in Zope

[Sent to zope-db as well, this version better edited] Greets, ladies and gentlemen. I worry about the future of Oracle support in Zope, and in Python, too, for that matter. So I am wondering what interest there actually is for having Oracle support in Python/zope, I have a few questions: (Oracle support = having quality Oracle connectivity from python/Zope) 1) Does anyone else out there have a business case for using Oracle with Python/Zope? 2) Will those from (1) suffer badly, ie. will switch from Python or Zope to something else, if Oracle support in Python/Zope would dissapear? 3) Will those from (1) suffer badly, ie. will switch from Python or Zope to something else, if Oracle support is not improved? (ie less crashes, better throughput, etc). 4) Of those who say yes to at least one of 1-3, which ones can invest actual cash to create and maintain good quality Oracle Support in Python/Zope? 5) Of those who say yes to at least one of 1-3, which ones can invest *time* to create and maintain good quality Oracle Support in Python/Zope? What are the sentiments of other people on this list? I myself say yes to 1-3; however, at the moment I can only invest time (somewhat limited) and no cash. Also, I seem to be one of those that really stretch the limits on DCOracle2 - we use it super-extensivly for thousends of users, and seem to encounter all kinds of problems with it, ranging from lockups to connectivity loss. So I am interested in finding out if there actually are people using Oracle with Zope/Python and what their thoughts are. proxy tool for Zope/Plone

I need to integrate a few external .asp based web tools into a plone site. Instead of recoding them and converting them to Zope products, I want to do it by "importing" them into Page templates. What I need is basically to browse another webpage through a Plone Page template, so that I can keep the look and feel of the Plone site. Just as if I jused frames or iframes. I have made something similar in the past, but not as complete. I can see this as a usefull tool in many situations. So I wondered if anybody has done something similar allready, and have any experiences they want to share. I especially wondered if there would be an advantage to using Squid/Apache as a middle layer, so that I wouldn't have to do the url rewriting myself :-s Any knowledge of documentation/pitfalls would also be appreciated. regards Max M

thousands_commas

Hi. I'm not sure if this is a zope question, but... I have a client who is insisting on being able to enter numeric data into an HTML form (dtml-method in this case) using commas or not: 9999.00 or 9,999.00 I can output float information from the database ok, using the thousands_commas directive, however input and submission of a form using commas causes an error. I've even tried to strip commas in the ZSQL Method update statement: UPDATE ... total_area=TRIM(',' FROM <dtml-sqlvar total_area type=float>), ... but that does not seem to work either. Any suggestion on how to allow this behavior? BTW, this is legacy DTML. I cannot use ZPT here easily. Fantastic Count. Thanks! I was struggling to place the python string.replace function directly in the dtml-var tag, and having the usual dtml syntax problems. Here's what ended up working, for both input and output, allowing the use of commas for data entry, or not: <form name="myForm: method="post" action="updateForm"> <input type="text" name="total_area:float" value="<dtml-var total_area thousands_commas null=0.00> ...Submit </form> and in dtml method updateForm <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('total_area', _.string.replace(total_area,',',''))"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('total_area', _.float(total_area))">  <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('.')"> The first two line are really the relevant ones.
