Adding a folder

I am rather new to Zope, and am having a little trouble hunting through the documentation to find what I need. Currently I am looking to write a script that when called will create a folder with a specified name. Eventually, of course, I will want to programatically add content to these folders, but for now just seeing the documentation on how to add the folders will be enough. Thanks, -Justin

changing select metadata

Hello list, --- A quickie: I'm trying to change the expiration date of an object with this code: obj = getattr(context, id) obj.editMetadata(expiration_date=...) which works very well, however all other metadata gets wiped out :( Now, what's the method that works the other way, i.e. only change the provided attributes and leave the others be? \malthe

[python script] problem with AUTHENTICATED_USER

I have problem with my python script. I want to check if a user has a the "manager" role, and add an option in a menu in this case Here is my script: for el in rep.objectValues('Folder'): if el.id=="Administration" and AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role(self, ["Manager"]): #add option to the menu but Zope displays me an error: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'AUTHENTICATED_USER' is not defined I don't know what is the problem. I use sessionUserFolder (a Zope products), so I think it could be the reason of the problem. Thank you for your help

repozo over nfs?

Hi, I'm wondering how and how often people run repozo. Myself am running it to perform one full backup every night (after a pack), and a incremental one every hour (which needs about 15 min. with nice -n19). What bothers me, however, is the fact, that the backup process is real hit on the overall performance (espacially . The server in question has a RAID-5 setup, storing the backups on the same array as it reads the Data.fs from. Obviously, this keeps the harddisk quite busy during the backup. Now, did anyone try to let repozo write the backups onto a nfs share on another machine? Would that reduce the hit? Besides that, how often do you guys run your backups? In fact, I never needed to recover one until now, but if the case ever happens, I would prefer to have as recent data as possible, of course. Thanks, Sascha

Organisational vs. Functional hierarchies

I apologise if this is a newbie question, but I can't seem to find anything in the documentation about this. The way Zope seems to want to organise things is so that folders roughly equate to classes. That is, if I have B inside A, then B inherits its behaviour from A. All of B's siblings are the same sort of object. However, this means that I have to seperate all my various types of object by kind, regardless of whether they're related. Let's say I have a site that talks about flowers. I have two main kinds of object: images of flowers, which support methods for scaling etc, and descriptions of flowers, which support methods for rendering in various interesting ways. I have to arrange things like this: / Text HistoryOfTheDaisy MoreInformationAboutDaisies HowToGeneticallyEngineerRoses MyFavouriteRoseStories Images WildDaisy DomesticatedDaisy MutatedDaisyFromBeyondTimeAndSpace FakePictureOfABlackRose This works, but is a bit icky. I have my daisies mixed in with my roses. It would be far more convenient for organisational purposes if I arranged things like this: / Daisy Text HistoryOfTheDaisy MoreInformationAboutDaisies Images WildDaisy DomesticatedDaisy MutatedDaisyFromBeyondTimeAndSpace Rose Text HowToGeneticallyEngineerRoses MyFavouriteRoseStories Images MutatedDaisyFromBeyondTimeAndSpace FakePictureOfABlackRose But to make this work, I need to duplicate all the code in each 'Text' and 'Images' folder... Is it possible to tell Zope that methods for a particular kind of object should be found at a particular location, regardless of the containment hierarchy? That way I could have /lib/text and /lib/image that contain the reference code to make my text and images work; the Text and Images folders would then point at these. Or even better, I'd like to do without the Text and Images folders completely and just mix .pt and .jpg files in the Daisy and Rose folders. But I can't seem to find out whether I can do this. Zope via WebDAV

I am trying to use Zope with Dreamweaver via WebDAV. There are lots of good docs and plenty of info in the archives and I have one install setup and working really well. The one that works is Zope 2.7.4 on Win32. An older, production install I want to configure the same way is Zope 2.6.2 on a RedHat 9.0 machine, but it is not working. The trouble I am having with that one is that it downloads all ZPT files without their TAL and METAL tags, and then when uploading, it overwrites the good ones. "Munges" them, as I think I've seen it typed before. Is this just due to some changes between versions, or platforms, or...? I have tried connecting via WebDrive, directly to the zserver WebDAV port and via Apache proxy with the same results. Thanks for any info you can provide.

Zope2.7.4 with Python2.4?

Hi, I fired up zope on a new server yesterday. It's very very slow!
