How to upgrade Python in older Zope?

Folks, I desperately need support for large filesystem so the data.fs file can exceed 2 GB. I can only make minimal changes to the existing set-up, which consists of Zope 2.5.1 (binary release, with Python 2.1.3) on Windows Server 2003 and NTFS. From what I've read, the issue is with the old Python not having LFS enabled, so I thought I'd just upgrade it to 2.2.3 which has LFS enabled. The question is, how do I do that? Windows installer for Python doesn't know what to upgrade in the Zope install, so I'm thinking to copy the right files from the extracted Python 2.2.3 in Zope folders. What goes where? I appreciate your patience and spoonfeeding. :-) Thanks in advance! Titel

Paul, Thank you for the quick reply! I'm aware of the risk, but it seemed the easiest way to circumvent a limitation. I guess it would be even easier to find Python 2.1.3 built with LFS enabled for Windows. :-) The reason I'm reluctant to touch anything is that I use Zope for OpenFlow, and I depend on its requirements. Currently it's OpenFlow 0.7 IIRC, while the development stopped at 1.3 and the upgrade of that application is a pain I'm trying to avoid. Also, I'm looking for the easiest possible way out, because in a month or two the entire application will be replaced with another solution. If there is no other way than take Zope through a few updates, then I'll give that a shot when I get some time to tinker with this. Thanks again, keep the ideas coming! That sounds like a really bad idea. From the Zope 2.5.1 release notes: * Zope requires Python 2.1 (Python 2.2 is currently *not* supported) You should NOT assume that warning was put there for no reason :-) Also, there's not a whole lot of expertise in this community on building for Windows; we seem to be a linux/unix-heavy crowd. You'd better stick to the binary releases and not mess with them, unless you can find a bona-fide expert to help you. Anyone? :-) Meanwhile you might try migrating a *copy* of your Data.fs to Zope first to Zope 2.6.4 (still uses Python 2.1.x) and then to Zope 2.7.7 (uses Python 2.3.x). FWIW I recall 2.5 to 2.6 being a painless upgrade. I think 2.7 was a little more involved. The most likely problem to watch out for is security-related issues: your code might accidentally rely on a security weakness that was subsequently tightened, so you get permission denied at unexpected times until your code and/or configuration is fixed. Limit Zope only from Pound

Hello, I have installed pound and zope in different machines. Pound is a IP: 192.168.1.1 and Zope is in IP: 192.168.1.5:8080. Pound balances to Zope, correctly. Although, I want than Zope does not visible from external, that is to say, Zope is only accessible from Pound (and not with http://192.168.1.5:8080 manually) . I have tried con "ip-address", but it does not run. Anybody do knows how do it ? Thanks !

VERY unusual zope traceback

After my computer was iddling during the nigth I got the following traceback. look at the rather genereous number of expected parameters. how can somethings like this happen? genealogy product?

Hi, Would you know any genealogy product for Zope? Is zope a tool for managing a big (200000 members) of genealogy oriented group, which has over 150,000,000 entries in the genealogy tree? It is now managed with about 20 servers and SQL databases but Zope might be a solution, isn't it? Thank you.

Running two versions of Zope as Windows services

Hi all, We are in the process of a gradual upgrade from one 2.x version of Zope to the latest version 2 release. Both versions are being run as Windows services on Windows 2000 server. Each instance has its own version of python. The original (older) version appears to be picking up some configuration options from the newer version. Where I see this is that we have our old version was is configured to log using a daily rotating log file, but since the newer version was installed that configuration is being ignored. Can anyone give me some pointers as to where to look, or what I can change to force the old version to use it's own config? (We've already confirmed that there is nothing conspicuous in Windows Registry and environment variables). -- Stephen

SOAPMethod

I need to get some information from a database and display it on our website. It's a very simple query just passing one number to get the record. The only way i am allowed to query this database is via SOAP. I have installed the SOAPMethod and have got it working but i cannot get the result to display. I can only view the result when i look at the source of the page. the dtml Method i am using is written - <dtml-var expr="requestStudentData('5506239')"> this is what the help that came with the product says to use. (requestStudentData is the name of the SOAPMethod and "5506239" is the query string i am passing to the database.) i'm not a developer and although i understand a bit about DTML i cannot find out what is going wrong. I've searched the web but there seems very little on SOAP/python/Zope. any help would be gratefully appreciated. Mark
