Package recommendations (?) for minimal ZCA environment

All: I figured I would survey this list for recommendations of zope packages that have minimal dependencies -- specifically for non-web, non-ZODB ZCA applications. My criteria for this minimal environment: 1. No ZCML, ZODB, or zope.app.* dependencies. 2. Egg available in cheeseshop; svn is okay too (e.g. zope.cachedescriptors trunk does not require ZODB; PYPI egg does at the moment). I will use zc.buildout and virtualenv for deployment environment. 3. Not specifically targeted at web applications only. Currently, I'm using zope.component, zope.interface, zope.schema, zope.datetime, zope.event, and a related but small set of dependencies installed from PYPI. Background: I'm working on a set of components for working with mass-media content that are to be generically useful across multiple environments, application frameworks (web and non-web), etc. The core of these components depends on some zope 3 libraries, but my goal is to keep dependencies to a minimum. A superset of this minimum framework would be used to deploy components to specific application environments including basic automation scripts to move content from one system to another, middleware applications exposing these components over XML-RPC, web applications in Z3, Django, and Plone/Z2. Any recommendations appreciated. Maybe compiling a list like this is helpful for the community to reach out to non-Zope python developers too -- makes the technology more approachable. DeadlockDebugger, Ubuntu 2.9.6 Threadframe

Hi I need to put the DeadlockDebugger on my machine but it requires the python threadframe component. I can get this to compile in this evironment has any body done this? Chris

zope 2.9.6 stops servicing requests

Hi Several weeks ago I moved one of my machine to a new server and upgraded zope from 2.7 to 2.9 as well as the database from mysql 4.1 to 5.0.38. All seems to be going well expect that on a couple of occasions the zope server has stop repsonding to request. The server is takeing 0% cpu and the only way to get it going again is to re-start zope. Hi all, I have a rather strange Problem. I have a PersistentList containing PersistentMapping objects. [{'Status': 'Read', 'Confirm': False, 'Read': DateTime('2008/01/24 16:03:32.508 GMT+1'), 'Expires': None, 'SenderID': 'DC83D1F1DB88CDE8', 'Date': DateTime('2008/01/24 15:51:50.998 GMT+1'), 'Message': 'Da ist ein permission test', 'ID': '20080124155150_4641@DC83D1F1DB88CDE8'}] When do a tal:repeat="message here/getMessages" and a tal:replace="message" everything functions as expected. When i try tal:replace="message/ID" I get an Unauthorized Exception "You are not allowed to access 'a particular str' in this context" I can access all DateTime objects. Only the strings a not allowed. There is no difference when getMessages return of the Original list and when I build a new list with copies of the PersistentMapping objects. To get this working I have to create new Dictionary from the Persistent Mappings add them to an normal List and return this list. ret = [] for test in self.msglist : temptest = {} for (key,value) in test.items() : temptest[key] = value ret.append(temptest) return ret That's a real performance killer as the list is read quite frequently. Any Idea how to fix this. Upgrade Five for Zope 2.9.7?

How do I upgrade Five (http://codespeak.net/z3/five/) from v1.3.8 to v1.4.4 in Zope v2.9.7? The Plone product I wish to install (Reflecto v1.2 - http://plone.org/products/reflecto) apparentl. requires v1.4.1+. Frustratingly, the installation page (http://codespeak.net/z3/five/INSTALL.html) and INSTALL.txt file for Five do not actually explain how to install it. Many thanks. James

Counting threads

Perhaps I'm wrong but I suspect that a Zope I'm running is dying because of running out of threads. They probably die when being designated to open an external relational database connection or something dodgy. What are my options for monitoring and debugging what zope's threads are doing? The other important difference between ajax loaded pages and iframes is that when you click on a link within an iframe page, the returned page is loaded into the same iframe. If I am not being clear, please check out this png file. <a href="http://medicinebrain.com/iframe.png"> http://medicinebrain.com/iframe.png </a> In this png I did a search for DML Docs within a tab panel and the search results are loaded into the same tab. BTW, I would like to simplify the zmi even more for my users. I want to hide various tabs (eg. security, find, etc) and I want to restrict the number of products they are shown in the drop down box for adding to a folder. However, I still want to offer complete zmi functionality to the overall administrator. I can probably hide the security tabs using css (the overall admin won't load the css sheet) but how can I control the products displayed to a user in the folder view of the zmi?
