Has anybody ever heard of Zope or other open source software to support charity challenge events (runs, bikeathons, skip rope, lose weight, cut hair -- well you know what i mean)?

If so, this could be part of the nature of the values returned from that. A particular source would provide either objects to be contained, or references (not contained). Another reasonable approach (IMO) would be to simply document the containment/reference relationship in the field's description text or in a comment alongside the field. zope.schema: association vs. containment in Object, List

All, I want to be able to spell out certain zope.schema.Object fields in my interfaces as "contained" while other fields are declared as associated/related objects. I'm interested in describing this in the interface itself, and not leave such intrinsic characteristics to the implementation class. It is useful, in my experience to have the ability for utility components to know this about a field (for example, relational database deletion cascades, JSON serialization of an object and its contained objects, neglecting related objects, or you might end up serializing the entire graph). Are there any community best practices for doing this? My previous attempts at doing this have been to subclass List and Object for OneToMany and OneToOne field types respectively, and treat original Object and List(value_type=Object()) fields as always implying containment. Is this reasonable? Are there other or better approaches? Thanks, Sean

Counting the elements of a result in a ZCatalog

Hi all. I need to query a ZCatalog, and I would like to know how many elements are there. I'm working from inside a python product, so, I could do something like: results = Catalog(criteria) return len(results) But this creates a number of objects which are completly useless for me. After all, I'm interested in just the length, not in the objects. I could do something like this: results = Catalog(criteria, sort_limit=1) return results.actual_result_count since I should have a LazyMap, which does not (should not) actually load all the objects (at least, I hope so). This does not work if I have no result. So, what I should do would be: results = Catalog(criteria, sort_limit=1) if len(results) == 0: return 0 return results.actual_result_count Am I missing something? Multithreading sessions

Dear Zope Users group, I am running zope 2.9.4 and have observed that it will not simultaneously serve pages to my users. For Example: User 1 requests data that takes the MySQL server 30 seconds to retrieve Meanwhile. User 2 wants to log on User 2 will not be served the logon page until user 1's query has finished. Is this typical Zope behavior? How do I get Zope to serve pages, run python scripts, etc. to multiple users simultaneously? Thanks, Jon Emmons

index error, list index out of range

Hi, I am a novice in zope. i have to debug a program where i get the key value error, traversal error. a lil info from the error log. statistics and click analysis for a plone site

Hi there, for a Client using a plone2 intranet (with no access from the outside world) I installed awstat to track the usage of the intranet. now I wonder how meningfull such statisics are. The intranet usage is roughly as follows: - user logs into the intranet authenticating against a Ldap/MSActiveDirectory - she stays in the intranet all day, probably never logs out - collects data as needed The awstats setup is very basic. I just installed it and adopted the config files such that it finds the apache log files. I did a second setup for the Z2.log (to get at the old data, as we do not rotate the Z2.log). Looking at the awstats statistics I do not find them of overwhelming informative. Now, I now awstats is not a click analysis tool. but maybe somebody has done some more analysis into how to provide useful statistics on the usage of an intranet. Any pointers would be welcome. thanks robert

Reinventing a proxy wheel?

Hi. I think I may just have reinvented a kind of cgi-proxy for authentication purposes. Seems to work nicely so far, but oh, so ugly. Thus I would be gratefull for any pointers towards some more enlightened solution. Problem to solve: External php based facility needs to be made available to logged in zope users only, but have no built in mechanism to to handle "everyone must log in to see anything at all" situations. Some users can be synced by way of sql, but many can not. This is a given. My solution so far: An external method that wraps wget. Rearanges the url to connect via 127.0.0.1, and use original host as host header. Use Apache to close access to everyone but 127.0.0.1. Rest of the script basically shuffles headers back and forth from zope to wget, and back. and the script can of course be subject to normal zope access checks. If no major flaws with this approach appears, I will of course replace wget with urllib, and perhaps even productify the thing, but before I do that I have this nagging feeling of reinventing the wheel that I need to address...
