Trouble getting Zope 2.8/Python 2.3 to work in OS X 10.6

I apologize if this questions belongs in a different forum, but... I am having a heck of a time getting Python 2.3.5 installed in OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard server.) I need it for a Zope 2.8.6 installation. OS X comes with Python 2.6.1 and I guess my plan is to have 2.3 installed alongside it. Neither MacPorts (a framework for installing ports of various programs to os x) nor Fink (essentially a port of apt-get / dpkg for os x) worked. MacPorts didn't have a port of python2.3 and Fink wouldn't compile. What I did to get it to the point where it is now: configure with: ./configure --enable-framework MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.5 --with- universal-archs=all --enable-toolbox-glue=false then run: export LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 next edit the resulting Makefile and remove the -Wno-long-double flag (it only appears once) finally, running 'sudo make' yields the error: libtool -o Python.framework/Versions/2.3/Python -dynamic -prebind - seg1addr 0x10000000 libpython2.3.a \ -framework System -lcc_dynamic -arch_only ppc - install_name /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.3/Python - compatibility_version 2.3 -current_version 2.3 libtool: can't locate file for: -lcc_dynamic libtool: file: -lcc_dynamic is not an object file (not allowed in a library) make: *** [Python.framework/Versions/2.3/Python] Error 1 I haven't been able to figure out that last error; commenting out the line it stems from breaks things, deleting just that particular flag (lcc_dynamic) breaks things, and googling didn't turn up any answers. Peewee and Zope

I'm interested in marrying my Zope app with Peewee[1]. It's a very simple ORM based on Django's "ORM patterns". All I need is a non-persistent connection object in my app. To avoid reinventing any wheels, I thought I could maybe look at the SQLAlchemy or ZPsycopgDA packages for inspiration. Even better way to avoid re-inventing the wheel would be if there already was a package or some code I could try. Has anybody built anything like this they're willing to share? Zeo scaling question

Hello, I am working on a solution that has a very high number of users and a significant amount of traffic. Using a zeo configuration we have been running into a few bottle necks while trying to improve our load testing results. The problem we see is if that put our Zeo Configuration under load that Zope does not close the connections and the application server ends up running out of connections for Apache to connect to. The connections once opened idle indefinitely. (Apache is running on a dedicated server different from our Zeo instances). We are using RR between 2 vm instances using 10 zeo clients per vm to distribute load. The bottleneck is occurring on the Apache server because it's keeping TCP connections in time_wait status. We have completed load tests on both Windows 2003 and 2008. In 2003 we were able to adjust the registry so the OS would terminate connections after 15 seconds of idle, however in 2008 the minimum is 30 seconds. In the upper levels of testing the OS runs out of TCP connections because it can't close them fast enough and it begins to fail requests. Ideally we don't want to close connections forcibly via the tcp stack because Zope keeps them open. We'd hope that Zope would manage this clean up gracefully. One option we are considering is using IIS7.5 and ARR as a replacement load balancing/rewrite method. This could allow us to check health of destinations prior to forwarding a request. It may also give us more control over closing connections at the OS level. One other detail we think might be the issue is that Zope is not initiating the close connection event. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge they can lend to help out? I am looking at a situation (an online self registry process) where I want to allow a user that is not logged in to be able to create a user and do a number of other functions normally reserved for and restricted to logged in users with a fairly elevated rights. I need to perform these functions from a Python script. What is the best strategy for doing this? I am thinking that creating a separate python script that has elevated rights and allowing Anonymous access to it and calling it from a script that does not have elevated rights is the best strategy to manage it. Am I creating a huge security hole by doing this?

Thanks all for your suggestions. I have already started installing new products (of the same version as on live) from scratch (as suggested by lennart) on development env. I have already finished installing Zope-2.6.2, python-2.1.3, Openflow-engine-1.1.0, postgresql-7.4.13. Openflow_ZPygresqlDA_products_broken_on_ZMI

Hi, As suggested by you I have downloaded all the zope products of the same version as they are on live to remove the mismatch of versions. But before I install those products on dev environment, I will have to uninstall all the products that I had installed earlier (i.e. on dev env). Earlier, I had installed all the products from the source tar balls. So can u please suggest how do I uninstall these products on dev env? Empty Products folder with Zope 2.13.1

Hi, I've installed Zope 2.13.1 with easy_install and python 2.6.6 on SLES 11.1, but the Products folder in the ZMI is empty and there's no 'Help!' link on any page. Same result with python 2.7.1. Is this like it is expected to be or is this a bug? There's no error message in the event log, but during installation I've seen these error messages: ... Question about Upgrading Zope and OS X Server

Greetings, I have recently inherited the responsibility of supporting a fairly complex web server running Zope 2.8.6 on Python 2.3.5. This configuration is currently on a Linux (Fedora Core) server and I would like very much to migrate to OS X Server Snow Leopard. It also seems to me that I should consider upgrading Zope to a more current release while I'm at it. We heavily use MySQL and associated products, LocalFS, and the Python Imagining Library. We have a variety of ZClass homegrown products as well. I know that I'm in for a headache no matter what, but I wonder if any of you folks could point me in the right direction or offer advice on the situation. Is it crazy to jump from 2.8.6 to 2.12? Does anyone use OS X Server for Zope? Is this migration a mistake? Any pitfalls I should be looking out for? Many thanks, Dan

Hi, Can I install ZPygresqlDA without uninstalling ZPsycopgDA on the same m/c? Will it work properly? If it works properly I will install ZPygresqlDA-0.0.3 on dev Linux box & again import my source code & check whether it still appears broken? Please help me so that I can progress accordingly.
