RE: [Zope] CMF Site as default zope site

Stefan, In addition to use of a VHM as George recommends, it is worth adding that you either want to be using Apache or Squid in front of Zope (with URL rewriting abilities; make your forward web-server's url rewrite rules look similar to the suggestions in the documentation in your VHM instance; Apache uses mod_rewrite, and Squid can use a 'redirector' of your choice). In Apache, you set up the rewrite rules in each virtual host entry in httpd.conf (though I think in Apache you can only do path rewrites?). In Squid, you use a redirector of your choice (I like http://freshmeat.net/projects/pyredir) to control redirection (aka rewriting of back end urls for the proxy). One other note on Virtual hosting and Plone and/or CMF sites: an interesting practice is the idea of using a single physical CMF site providing a unified software and content base but having multiple skins, each representing a different virtual host. This utiltizes the toggleSkin recipe on zopelabs (you can search for it there). This is useful in some, but not all situations (and may likely not be useful in your situation, but on a discussion about virtual hosting and CMF/Plone, it is worth bringing up). Re: [Zope] Newbie: dtml-tree
by Ashley Lloyd 27 Feb '03

Thanks once again for the help and advice. I don't think I've got the knowledge I'd need yet to use ZTUtils for the tree - especially since all of the examples seem to be based around trees showing folder structure, not SQL queries etc. I'll look at other options I think. Thanks once again for trying to help, though, and sorry for wasting your time. "ZTUtils" contains functions that can be used in both ZPT and DTML (via Python Script, as you cannot import things in DTML). But there is a DTML extension: "TALES expressions in DTML". Search the archive! I never used or read it myself. Turbo Intranet -- what is it?
by Derrick 'dman' Hudson 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

My employer approached me regarding implementing Zope Turbo Intranet at the office. He gave me some information regarding the training session (http://www.zope.com/Training/TurboIntranetTraining) but I haven't been able to find any solid information on what exactly "Turbo Intranet" is. What is it? Is "Turbo Intranet" a product in and of itself? Is it a collection of products that can be installed separately? Some of the bullets on the flyer suggest that it includes the CMF, Casey's ExternalEditor product and Jens' LDAPUserFolder product. Is it a collection of products (such as those listed) with some sort of extra enhancements? TIA, -D -- He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. Write one ZSQL method 4. Add a CookieCrumbler* object to enable cookie authentication. 5. Customise your login form. cheers, Chris * http://hathaway.freezope.org/Software/CookieCrumbler

does zope do passive ftp? - was emacs and ange-ftp
by kevin bailey 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

thanks for all the previous help - for the record... putting /kbailey(a)example.com[ctrl q then space]8021:/path/to/file (i.e. /kbailey(a)example.com 8021:/path/to/file) meant that the host name was being resolved correctly in gnu-emacs21 (console version) and... xemacs works better in that it resolves the host name correctly when /kbailey@example.com#8021:/path/to/file however - i am still unable to edit files over FTP using emacs... :o( i think i've found that the issue is that i am behind a firewall and though passive FTP is relatively easy, active FTP is more difficult. i *have* set up a trigger which means i can access my company's winnt ftp server using active ftp - but even though i have set up a similar trigger (for port 8021) on the firewall the response from the zope ftp server does not get back in. any ideas on how to get zope's ftp server to respond to passive ftp requests gratefully received, kev bailey hi there, has anyone managed to get emacs to directly edit test files on a zope server. i try connecting to www.server.com#8021:/path/to/file_html but it says server unknown. even dired does not work, thanks, kev bailey _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

serving up a file without making a zope object out of it
by sameer chaudhry 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

I have an excel file on my pc that gets updated every five minutes. I would like to make a link to it from within zope. Currently, I can add a file which can be served up from zope, but it becomes a static object after it is uploaded, and so it is not the copy which updates every five minutes. I can do this simply in apache by putting the file in the htdocs file and creating a simple link to it. How is this possible in Zope? -- _______________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Meet Singles http://corp.mail.com/lavalife

solution to Unauthorized: cannot access ... in this context
by Bergen Moore 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

I've seen alot of posts with people having the following error: Error Type: Undefined Error Value: You are not allowed to access <something> in this context ___ It kept making my user anonymous, logging me out, and not performing the action. It began to happen to me in several cases, so I got tough and downloaded Verbose Security at http://hathaway.freezope.org/Software/VerboseSecurity, (thanks, Hathaways) which told me that Anonymous didn't have View priveleges... Why was it running as Anonymous, I thought? So, I went to the root folder of the website I was having the problems in, and TOOK OWNERSHIP with a manager/owner user. My feeling was that somehow these files had lost ownership. Apparently I was right. So, the SOLUTION: Take ownership of the problem folders or files (with the folders you can recursively take ownership of all files within it. Helpful? It was to me. Access based on a table of users
by Fernando Martins 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

I have a table of users from a database and I would like to have login based on it. Concretely, I have a form to edit record(s) in a (second) table of whatever data which is the responsability of a user(s). When a user presses an Edit button, I would like to ask him for a login/password to access the record. I can manually implement this check but may be it could be based on zope security? The login/password should be stored in the table of users. How can I "link" this table with acl_users without manually maintaining the "link"? Thanks, Fernando

CVS and Zope
by Jonathan Miles 27 Feb '03

27 Feb '03

I am looking at various CVS like products. I have looked at MS Source Safe, will look at PVCS and am looking at CVS. At this time I have found a CVS server CVSNT (the company is full of MS). Also a client TortoiseCVS that works in MS file manager. However there is a product called viewCVS and it's written in python. That is always a good sign. To the question Is there at Zope Product to browse details in the CVS repository? I don't have the skills to convert viewsCVS to a Zope product and I am not sure it will work in win32. Thank for any pointers.
