At present the script will on accept %m%d%H%M%S Using the extra characters created by %Y gets the zope error: Error Type: ValueError Error Value: int() literal too large: 20030123222057 I am setting the FILE_FORMAT = "%n-%t%e" Changing Line 590 to: counter = int(DateTime().strftime('%Y%m%d%H%M%S')) What's else needs to be changed please? Limiting data in subfolder
by mico＠cbn.net.id 25 Jan '03

25 Jan '03

We have several clients using Zope, and we set the client to have have virtual host in their own folders like http://our.server:8080/clients/. We followed the instructions written in "Python 2.1.x, Zope 2.5.x, Apache 1.3.x/2.0.x, Virtual Hosts and caching installation and startup on RedHat Linux 7.3 and beyond" HOWTO. It works. But I wonder how to limit the size of the client subfolder in Zope? So we could limit client A to have only 100 MB space in Zope subfolder. Thanks. ---------------------------------------- This message was sent using CBN WebMail.

ANN: OSCON 2003 (Python 11) call for participation
by Kevin Altis 25 Jan '03

From: O'Reilly Conferences [mailto:oraconf@ora-info.ora.com] Sent: Thursday, January 23, 2003 3:56 PM Subject: oscon 2003 call for participation 2003 O'Reilly Open Source Convention Call For Participation Embracing and Extending Proprietary Software http://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon/ O'Reilly & Associates invites programmers, developers, strategists, and technical staff to submit proposals to lead tutorial and conference sessions at the 2003 Open Source Software Convention, slated for July 7-11 in Portland, OR. Proposals are due February 15, 2003. For more information please visit our OSCON website http://conferences.oreilly.com/oscon/ The theme this year is "Embracing and Extending Proprietary Software." Few companies use only one vendor's software on desktops, back office, and servers. Variety in operating systems and applications is becoming the norm, for sound financial and technical reasons. With variety comes the need for open unencumbered standards for data exchange and service interoperability. You can address the theme from any angle you like--for example, you might talk about migrating away from commercial software such as Microsoft Windows, or instead place your emphasis on coexistence. Zope hangs when copying large/many objects
by Florian Konnertz 25 Jan '03

25 Jan '03

Hi Zopies, Some time ago i had already the prob that Zope hangs when copying (Cutting) many objects at once. I couldn't solve it but had to copy 500 objects in steps a 50. Now i get similar "hangings" when copying large objects (ie. a ZWiki folder with many pages). I remember having read that it might be something about zope's cache but don't remember... Any ideas appreciated! P.S. I had no success yet when googling cu Flo Florian -- Florian Konnertz --- http://www.florian-konnertz.de ------------------------------------------------------- http://openspirit.homelinux.net/noowiki/FrontPage Improved ZWiki about all topics, especially consciousness research and wisdom traditions http://www.openmovie.org multimedia project Have a nice day!

Zope catalog query...
by Thierry Florac 24 Jan '03

24 Jan '03

Hi, I want to make a "very frequent" query on a ZCatalog. Each object in my Zope site is identified with a globally unique ID (called oid) which is indexed in my catalog ; sometimes, I can also know that the object that I'm looking for is stored in a given path. So my question is simple : if I know the subpath in which the object is stored, is it faster to : - make a query only on the oid - make a query on the oid and path Thanks for any advise... "dtml-in" question
by Thierry Florac 24 Jan '03

24 Jan '03

Hi, A little question about the "dtml-in" tag. What I'd like to do is to build a list according to a property value, like we can do with for "for" Python instruction, something like : <dtml-in "object for object in objectValues() if object.visible"> Is there any way to achieve this, without writing a custom method ?? Thanks, Thierry -- Linux every day, keeps Dr Watson away... http://gpc.sourceforge.net -- http://www.ulthar.net

disable login
by philrobinson 24 Jan '03

24 Jan '03

Anyone know a neat way disable login? I want to stop people logging in so I can upload new versions and stuff without them editing content while I'm at it. I can log in at a higher level than they can; a general method for programmatically making parts of the ZODB tree effectively read only is what I'm after. Thanks for any ideas -------------------------------------- Phil Robinson. philrobinson(a)ponytrot.net --------------------------------------

advice on storing in Zope instances of a python class inherited from UserList
by Giuseppe Bonelli 24 Jan '03

24 Jan '03

Hi all, I want to use Zope as the persistent storage for a big number of instances of a python class inherited from UserList and I ask advice to this list's wisdom on the best strategy to use. The class models structured contents (text) organized as a hierarchical tree a few level deep and obtained by parsing an input data stream. The class instances are about 200.000 (i.e. BTree Folders will be needed), but their max. size is small (couple of KB). The key of using Zope (apart from being Python and object oriented) is to leverage the use of ZCatalog. I see 2 alternatives: 1. Store them as XMLDocument instances (from XMLKit) and use ParsedXML and XMLTransform to build a search and display UI using XSLTs. 2. Store them using their native python structure and build from scratch a dtml search and display UI. Main advantage of 2. should be performance (no extra xml layer), but standard Zope objects don't seems (at least as far I Know) to permit an easy implementation of hierarchies of UserList-like properties and I would like to maintain a 1 object for each class instance approach. On the other hand, the xml approach seems natural because of the hierarchical nature of the class, but I am worried about performance issues due to the extra xml layer. Any advice or experience in implementing something like this (essentially a big single-object searchable storage) will be very helpful. Also, is there any problem on using Zope 2.6 instead of 2.5.1 (in principle better indexing, but all python work done so far is in 2.1.3 and I am worried about potential incompatibilities among BTree, XMLKit, ParsedXML, XMLTRansform and Zope 2.6). Thanks in advance, --Giuseppe Bonelli
