Redirection problem

We have a filesystem product with an edit method that allows users to change some properties. At the end, the user is redirected to the page from which they came. Our setup has Squid in front on port 80, with Pound on port 81 load-balancing to 3 ZEO clients. No matter how we define the redirect URL - even when we hardcoded it explicitly with ':80' for test purposes - the redirection is always to port 81. What is going on? Thanks! windos and linux

this snippet behaves differently on windows and linux: http://zope.pastey.net/42188-1gbl I would be thankful of any clues to why. in linux it copies a gif picture off the filesystem and into the zodb. I've an application in Zope. A user see this message when he try to submit a form. I've tried myself with his account and I had no error. I'm using OpenFlow, if it matters. The user is never sent to the openflow instance, so I don't understand how he tries to request this url. Can be a browser problem? Zope 2, local python script security

Hi Zope list, I have a (zope 2.8.8-final) folder that gives users with the role "Authenticated" the following Permissions: ------------------------------- . access contents . view - note: no webDav or FTP access is allowed ------------------------------- Playing around with wget and curl I find I can (with proper authentication) download the "published" but not raw source of zpt and python files available in the folder. So, for example, the script "\folder\pyDate" returns '2007/05/23' not its source, e.g. # module: pyDate from DateTime import DateTime return DateTime().Date() This is the behavior I want - as we have a requirement to keep source secure. I realize that source in Zope-Instance/Extensions is the most secure but I'm interested in local script security. Thanks, David

help with detecting mime_type

Dears, In my external method I can get mime_type = file.headers.headers[1].split()[1] and then my code proceed based on which mime type was identified for the file uploaded. What happens now is that a user uploading a tgz file from a Windows platform and then my code did not identify it as a application/x-gzip-compressed or similar (it gets application/octet-stream). As far as I understood from this case, such mime type info is passed by user's system (where Windows usually is not aware of tar.gz, tgz etc format) rather than being set by zope server. So since I was not aware of that, my question is: does anyone know a better and reliable way of identifying a file mime type (or a file format) independent from which platform/browser it is submitted? I realise I can use a conditional for checking extension file name in addition to mime type detection. But I would go for that only if I cannot find anything fairer. Many thanks in advance. Hi *, I spent hours now reading documentation, blogs and mails, and still did not get my head around the whole unicode issue. This is what I would like to do: 1. Have content and forms displayed using zpts, encoded in utf-8. 2. Get the data back into zope as unicode. 3. Store unicode in properties of objects, e.g. folders. 4. Edit those properties in the ZMI. 5. Search them in the catalog. My findings so far I have documented in http://www.baach.de/content/unicode basically using 1. setHeader('Content-Type','text/html;; charset=utf-8') 2. marking form fields (firstname:ustring:utf8) 2. using ustrings as properties. Works fine, but - what do I do about the title property of objects, e.g. folder? Its seems that I can't change them to anything, because once deleted I can't replace them by ustrings. I found that there is default-zpublisher-encoding and management_page_charset, but these make ustring etc. vanish from the zmi. So, should I use the management_page_charset and default-zpublisher-encoding instead of ustrings for storing data? I can't find anything that explains those six components (setHeader, form-field-ustring:utf8, ustrings, management_page_charset, default-zpublisher-encoding, title property) together, but would really like to understand how its working, preferably accross Zope versions. I am very willing to write a tutorial on it, so I am happy about any pointers. I am currently testing with Zope 2.8.5-final + python 2.4.4, and im the process of testing with the newest 2.10.x Cheers, Joerg

Scaling problems, or something else?

Just a quick call for ideas on this problem we have... Setup: Zope 2.7.5 (~180 sites) -> apache (-> varnish for 1 high profile site) Most noticeable symtoms: Takes 30 sec. or more to serve a page, or times out. Sporadic problem, but allways during general high load. Lasts less than 1 hour. Restarting zope does not help. Lots of apache processes in '..reading..' state Apache accesses and volume is down. Server load is unchanged, and < 2.0 Apache processes is way up (~250 aganinst <40) Netstat "established" connections is WAY up (~650 aganist < 50) Is this zope hitting some sort of limit and just letting Apache hang? Would setting up ZEO on the same box make a difference, or would it be better to extend varnish coverage? What would you do to pinpoint the problem? Any ideas are welcome! Regards Gaute Amundsen

When I get errors like: UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xc3 in position 2940: ordinal not in range(128) how can I locate the character which causes the error? In particular: where is the position (2940 in the example)?
