External Editor doesn't work with Firefox

I have External Editor (zopeedit-win32-0.9.3.exe <http://www.plope.com/software/ExternalEditor/zopeedit-win32-0.9.3.exe> ) installed on my WinXP machine. It works fine with my IE6 browser. But with Firefox 2.0, it doesn't. Specifically, with the ZMI running in Firefox, what happens is: 1. I get the stubby pencil icons on editable Zope objects. 2. Clicking on the stubby pencils brings up that page in my selected external editor (currently Dreamweaver, but I have tried this with other tools and the results are the same). So far, so good. 3. But when I save changes from the external editor, the changes don't make it back into Zope, and they don't show up on the rendered pages. a. The changes do show up in the temp file that the external editor saves to. So the problem is not with the external editor's file saving abilities. b. No error messages occur. c. So the problem must be that the EE helper app is not picking up the changes, or is not getting them back to Firefox. My hunch is that I have failed to execute the following step in the IE Windows installation instructions (http://www.plope.com/software/ExternalEditor/install-win32) "You can also register it (zopeedit.exe) with other browsers directly." The reason I haven't done this step is that I can't find out how to register a helper app in Firefox. And after a lot of Googling etc, I'm still stuck. Problem Getting dtml-with to work

Folder A contains Folder B contains Folder C. If I write in a dtml page in Folder A: <dtml-with FolderB> <dtml-var FolderC> </dtml-with FolderB> then I get an error which states that FolderC does not exist. Why doesn't the above work? I can display Folder C if I click on it in the ZMI or go to it directly via a URL. Folder C is a Plone news smartfolder, if that makes any difference. Is this some behind-the-scenes Plone magic messing me up, or am I misunderstanding what dtml-with is supposed to do?

Custom Zope ZPT login page

I use Zope with a custom application that I'm writing using strait Zope, MSSQL, ZSQL methods, and ZPT, with some python / javascript scripts along the way. I want to write my own login page, instead of using the HTTP auth, I would like to present a webpage saying 'login required' (which is open to anonymous) as an alternative to the popup HTTP auth. I've seen this with Plone, but is it possible with regular Zope? If not, what do I need to get that? Also, I'm using the LDAPAuth product, and I'd like to have it use NTLM authentication so people with IE wouldn't have to login. Is there a product out there which could do that? -- Thanks, Derek Wilson

Zope unusable on my Virtual Private Server

Hi, I recently got a virtual private server on server4you.nl. All looked fine, until I started trying to get Zope to run on it. It is a Debian Sarge server. I want Zope 2.9 on it, but even the zope 2.7 that this Debian version has official Debian packages for is giving problems. After starting up and trying to access it (from the same box with lynx): 2007-04-23T22:37:58 ERROR(200) ZServer Server Error: thread.error, can't start new thread : file: /usr/lib/zope2.7/lib/python/ZServer/PubCore/ZRendezvous.py line: 44 Zope is started as root here, with effective-user zope in the etc/zope.conf. Setting the stack size for root helps # ulimit -a core file size (blocks, -c) 0 data seg size (kbytes, -d) unlimited file size (blocks, -f) unlimited max locked memory (kbytes, -l) unlimited max memory size (kbytes, -m) unlimited open files (-n) 1024 pipe size (512 bytes, -p) 8 stack size (kbytes, -s) 8192 cpu time (seconds, -t) unlimited max user processes (-u) unlimited virtual memory (kbytes, -v) unlimited # ulimit -s unlimited Then when I startup Zope it seems I can actually browse the site okay with lynx. So there might be possibilities after all. Trying with a Zope 2.9.4 or 2.9.7 (compiled with python 2.4.1) gives me no luck. The most basic commands can cause memory allocation errors when zope is running: # free bash: fork: Cannot allocate memory When nothing is running, I get the idea that there should be more than enough memory to start zope nicely. $ free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 262144 83952 178192 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 83952 178192 Swap: 0 0 0 And with one zope running, about 117 MB is used, so there should be plenty left. But apparently not. Or some other part of the OS is at its max. doc/PLATFORMS in the zope tarball has some remarks about thread errors, advising to configure python with a higher THREAD_STACK_SIZE. But that is for BSD or AIX. My OS is Debian Linux, but maybe the OS of the computer that hosts this virtual server runs BSD or AIX. Could that help then? Compiling python on such a system is difficult of course. With the normal gcc it is impossible. With distcc, using my home computer as the compile machin, I came further, but it failed somewhere. The problem there might be that my home computer runs a more recent Ubuntu, not Debian Sarge. Well, in the end I am left with the feeling that this server might not be good enough for Zope. I have not yet asked the sys admins for help, but I do not really know what to ask them, except for my money back. apache rewrite quit working

When the power was cut off the circuit breaker tripped on the battery backup that kicks in momentarily until the generator takes over so all hardware rebooted. After starting zeostorage and zope I found the apache rewrite rule that has been working since at least April 3, 2007 has quit working. Zeo, Zope, and apache have been restarted quite a few times since April 3 and worked fine. This is the first time the server has totally rebooted since that date. The syntax is correct according to httpd -t. Any suggestions on getting or testing apache rewrite, or problems seen with my rewrite rules would be appreciated. extract page title

Hi I'm trying to implement some web tracking code within a page template, however a little stuck. In the code below i'd like to append the page template - page title between the <title> tags dynamically rather than having to manually add to each page <script language='JavaScript1.1' type='text/javascript'> <noscript> <img src="http://domain/xxx/xxx/s?websitename.PAGETITLE" width="1" height="1" alt=""> </noscript> </script> do you have any advise please on how this could be done? thanks very much dean

I have to "copy" the entire site (with EXTFiles, not only) but EXTFiles give me no possibility to use import function. I saw that EXTFiles (used for a download area) operations have side-effect (i.e. delete extfile would delete the fs file) so I think I can't use them in a versioning system. Make a Zope Staging Server

Hi, I would like to have a Zope Staging Server where I make tests before publish contents into the real Zope Web Server (I use 2 DBMSs too). Unfortunately, EXTFile product (that I *MUST* use) don't give me the possibility to use export/import functions (before import I should delete the folder and consequently the linked FS files).
