Zcatalog TopicIndex
by Chris Muldrow 02 Dec '02

02 Dec '02

I've looked at the newish TopicIndex on the Zcatalog, and it seems like something that might be terribly useful to me, but I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. I've got a ton of objects called FLSNewsStory objects, and they're essentially (believe it or not) news stories with various properties. They're cataloged now with FieldIndexes mainly, but I've got a few indexes such as "Organization" that contain a very limited set of possibilities. Organization can only be one of four values. Can I use TopicIndices to more efficiently catalog such an index? How would I go about doing that? Or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks! - Chris Muldrow cmuldrow(a)fredericksburg.com

Customer service/complaining registration system

Hi, Does anyone know about a Customer service/complaining registration system which is developed for Zope? RE: [Zope] My Zope is leaking memory ... Still no luck.
by Jean-Francois.Doyon＠CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca 02 Dec '02

Here's another question: Is actually normal for me to NOT see ANY memory usage decrease when I do a pack followed by a minimize ? I've been doing this trying to notice patterns for memory usage, and one thing I noticed is that when I do this, and decrease the amount of total objects in the cache by 25%, my memory usage actually stays the same!! That seems horribly wrong somehow. I know my python has garbage collection buit-in too ... which is a good thing ... Thanks, J.F. -----Original Message----- From: Jean-Francois.Doyon(a)CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca [mailto:Jean-Francois.Doyon@CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca] Sent: Friday, November 29, 2002 3:07 PM To: jo(a)meder.de Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] My Zope is leaking memory ... Still no luck. Jo, Really? Wow, you'd think such a required behavior would be documented ... Unless I missed it somewhere. I do indeed use quite a bit of Python Scripts ... Problem is many of them are part of the CMF ... I really don't want to have to go through every bit of python script I have to do this, and would much prefer finding the root cause! Maybe I'll go digging for documented bugs and possible patches concerning Ptyhon Scripts ... Do you use PythonScripts (ZODB-based that is, not Products)? We had the same effect as the one you describe and solved it at least partially by setting every object used inside our PythonScripts to None before returning from the script. So if you have code along the lines of "something=context.restrictedTraverse('whatever')" or "baz=foo.objectValues(bar)" (or anything like that) try setting "something=baz=None" before the script ends. BTW: LeakFinder is a great tool, very useful in my experience and I deeply regret that it is no longer working with 2.6. Be prepared to restart your Zope after using it though. Re: [Zope] best virtualhosting product?
by Jaroslav Lukesh 02 Dec '02

Hi, I use VirtualHostMonster, aka. VHM, it is inside of your Zope (just select "add VHM"). It is pretty easy too and works with load balancing proxy (pound.apsis.ch), or standalone, or with apache. With apache you could not specify directories, apache will serve right content without configuring VHM (just add VHM to Zope root). Regards, JL. ---------- Odesílatel: André Camargo <acamargo(a)bisl.com.br> I like VirtualHostFolder (http://www.zope.org/Members/poster/VHF) it's pretty easy to setup and it does the work for me... what is wrong with this firewall for zope websever
by Jianping Zhu 02 Dec '02

02 Dec '02

I have a rehat 7.1 linux sever with zope running on it. I use iptables as firewall. The firewall for zope webserver is all following: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ## Zope iptables -A INPUT -i $IFACE -p tcp --dport 8080 -j ACCEPT # Allow inbound ftp iptables -A INPUT -i $IFACE -p tcp --dport 8021 -m state --state \ NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o $IFACE -p tcp --sport 8021 -m state --state \ ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I am trying to use ws_ftp to send files to zope. The problem is that if I stop the iptables firewall, it can connect to zope by the port8021. and i can see all directories in Romote Site (here is zope sever), and everything works fine. but when i start the iptables firewall, it still can connect to zope but i can not see the directories in the remote site. therfore i can not sent file to zope. what wrong with this firewall rules and how to fix it? Thanks. -------------------------------- Jianping Zhu Department of Computer Science Univerity of Georgia Athens, GA 30602 Tel 706 5423900 --------------------------------
