Secure Quizzing/Testing Project

Hi, all My group is considering putting together a proposal for a web-delivered high-stakes testing environment, which needs to be secure, safe from copying, etc... We have mainly done on-line surveys in the past, where the most sensitive data is an occasional ssn, for which we use SSL and we put the database behind a firewall, and this is secure enough. This would be a much bigger project. We may or may not get the contract, but I thought I would send a few ideas out to the Zope brain trust and see what you-all think. Zope-edu seems to be missing in action, so I hope this is a good place to introduce this. I am thinking toward a Zope backend and a Mozilla/XUL client. Single source for code and data, so no clients to distribute, and available to almost every machine/OS out there. (Install Mozilla/Netscape7; mozilla -chrome https://our.url/testname; take the test.) With XUL, the source of the page/application is not readily available, so this has a marginally better item security than html. Test content (question banks, assessments) would be maintained in ParsedXML in (standard?) IMS-QTI format http://www.imsproject.org/question/. Though IMS-QTI is dreadfully complicated, the IMS folks seem to have this solved for the general case, and why reinvent the wheel? Yes, of course, proctors on the client side will be essential. "On the web, nobody knows you're a dog." :) Special buzzword compliance may be important for future-proofing: Accessibility and internationalization in particular. These are just initial thoughts. I would think there should already be a project out there with similar ideas, but none really stood out. PHPTest seems to use the IMS-QTI model, but it's php, and I would rather get away from DTML-ish solutions; besides, zope has really good security policies built-in. SCORM refers to the IMS -QTI model, but if I am correct, any implementations are proprietary at the moment. Any ideas? Any projects out there? I would much rather contribute to an existing open-source project than create my own (probably necessarily proprietary) one. -- Jim Washington

How can I use the mxDateTime library with ZODBCDA?

Hello guys, I've programming a personnel administration system in Zope. There I have persons having entered the company before epoch. Using the normal DateTime module from Zope I have extreme problems. Now I have discovered that there is the mx.DateTime package for this reason. How can I convince Zope to use it for the results of database queries on a ZODBCDA connection? Greets Florian Reiser

File objects store in external file

Hi, I know how to use Image objects stored in external files, misc_={ "new_gif": ImageFile("icons/new.gif",globals()),... but, how can I use a normal file (text file - a CSS file) like this (without storing it as an Image file or DTML file)?! Thanks in advance, Rares

Merging ZPT's

Hi, In perl I was used to merge html templates by the decision of a script. Thus, for example, I have a script and a bunch of HTML templates. Now, the script can decide for some reason, to built the final HTML page in lots of ways when the final HTML page consists of 2 templates depending on how it's called, for example: First half of the page: Template A Second half of the page: Template B or Template C or ... So, how do I do this in a Zope python script? Can I just return 2 templates, so that it will merge the two page templates in one HTML page? I hope I made my point clear. Confusion about an unreachable object

I have the following structure (in part) in my Zope server: /dcII /worker /edit /index_html /worker /add /index_html /sql /get_worker_names In /dcII/worker/edit/index_html I have this page template snippet: <span tal:repeat="item here/sql/get_worker_names"> <option tal:content="python: '%s %s' % (item['first_name'],item['last_name'])" tal:attributes="value python:item['id']">name</option> </span> /dcII/sql had previously been named /dcII/utils. At that time, the here/utils/get_worker_names reference worked. After renaming the folder and changing the folder reference from "utils" to "sql" I get a KeyError for here/sql/get_worker_names. If I change the reference to here/dcII/sql/get_worker_names, it works. If I copy /dcII/worker/edit/index_html to /dcII/worker/add/copy_of_index_html, it also works. As far as I've been able to tell, worker/add and worker/edit have the same security permissions. In fact, everything View-wise looks like the defaults. I'm logged in as the owner/manager. character encoding in ParsedXML?

My xml-documents will not accept norwegian characters. '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>' Does not work, ParsedXML will strip it down to: '<?xml version="1.0"?>' Any suggestions? -- Einar Næss Jensen Avdelingsingeniør EDB-HF 735 90750

version has tons of things locked

I was doing a bunch of changes in a version and saved the version without any problems. But now tons of things are claiming to be version locked. It seems that if I go into the version, make a change, save the version and the leave the version, that object won't be locked anymore. The problem here is that they may be about 1,000 objects that are version locked. How can I fix this? The objects that are locked should not have been locked, so if I can throw out all of the crud that's messing things up, then it should be fine. (Yes I'll make a backup of the db before I do anything.) What are my options here? At one point a new Python Script that was created in the version ended up not being able to be accessed outside of the version. I made a copy of it and then got POSkey error exceptions. I copied the contents locally, deleted the original, recreated it and pasted the old contents back into it. Everything is fine for that script now. What would have wigged out the version? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -Chris

stopping acquisition

I have a folder setup like the following top top\current top\past in the top folder I have a script that includes container.current.superValues('Structured Document') works okay except (thats the big word) that it is also lists structure documents in the top folder. is there some way to limit the scope that superValues looks? I thought buy putting it in current it would limit it's enumeration of structured documents to just that...
