silva installation problem
by Reinoud van Leeuwen 03 Sep '02

Hi, I saw the announcement of the Silva system on www.zope.org and want to see if it suits my needs. I installed all the modules, but when I try the last step of the installation (import silva-0.8.3.zexp), my entire zope server crashes. The only thing I found was a line in /var/log/messages: Sep 2 17:38:47 zopetest /kernel: pid 337 (python), uid 25933: exited on signal 11 Zope 2.5.1 on FreeBSD 4.5 and Python 2.1.2. This is what I did to install everything (zope is installed in /usr/local/zope/2.5.1 which is symlinked as /usr/local/zope/zope) fetch http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/Silva/Silva-0.8.3.tgz fetch http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/XMLWidgets/XMLWidgets-0.8.1.tgz fetch http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/Formulator/Formulator-1.2.0.tgz fetch http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/ParsedXML/ParsedXML-1.3.0.tgz fetch http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/Silva/silva-0.8.3.zexp.gz lynx http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pyxml/PyXML-0.8.tar.gz?use_mirror=beln et and select download tar xzvf PyXML-0.8.tar.gz cd PyXML-0.8 python setup.py build python setup.py install cd /usr/local/zope/zope/lib/python/Products/ tar xzvf /usr/local/zope/download/Silva-0.8.3.tgz tar xzvf /usr/local/zope/download/XMLWidgets-0.8.1.tgz tar xzvf /usr/local/zope/download/Formulator-1.2.0.tgz tar xzvf /usr/local/zope/download/ParsedXML-1.3.0.tgz cd /usr/local/zope/zope/import/ cp /usr/local/zope/download/silva-0.8.3.zexp.gz . zcat silva-0.8.3.zexp.gz > silva-0.8.3.zexp /usr/local/zope/bin/zopectl stop /usr/local/zope/bin/zopectl start import file silva-0.8.3.zexp (in zope web management interface) *CRASH* Any ideas on how to debug this? -- __________________________________________________ "Nothing is as subjective as reality" Reinoud van Leeuwen reinoud.v(a)n.leeuwen.net http://www.xs4all.nl/~reinoud __________________________________________________

RE: [Zope] Attrib exceptions and None objects under heavy load?

Thanks for the reply and sorry about the HTML (had Outlook re-installed recently). Yes, I do mean ZODB (just wanted to indicate that I am using it in a Zope context and not stand-alone). I'll try and compile a test case as suggested by Toby and see if I can reproduce the problem. B.t.w. the only possibly "interesting" (read unstable ;) product I have installed is my own! So I AM probably the cause of my own problem (not that it takes me nearer to the solution though). What I also did not mention is that I am adding and retrieving the messages through XML-RPC, don't know if that's got anything to do with my problem though. I have in the mean time started moving the finely grained stuff over to a relational DB (yuck) and that should help. I saw that the data.fs file grew quite rapidly with a lot of finely grained operations, what's the best way to curb this? Packing every now and again? How do I do that programatically? Regards Etienne >Etienne, >Firstly, please don't post in HTML. >Etienne Labuschagne wrote: >> Hmm, it seems as if I am the only one with this problem. >Seems so, you got any interesting Products or External Methods (or >pactches/monkey fixes/etc) installed? >> It is probably best to move the very finely grained data into a >> relational type DB - I'm not sure that Zope is great for a lot of small >> object creation/deletion cycles anyway. >I presume you mean 'ZODB', not 'Zope'. And I'd disagree. The number of >creation/deletion cycles only influences the size at which a filestorage will grow. >cheers, >Chris

RE: [Zope] Using PyDoc with Zope products
by Etienne Labuschagne 03 Sep '02

Hi Chris, Sorry about the HTML, had Outlook set on Richtext (should've checked it), but it's probably also an HTML-like format (Please let me know if it is still wrong - got it set on Plain Text now). I've added the /lib/python path, but I think the Persistent class (or something) is added dynamically when Zope starts, so pydoc's main gripe is about that. Anyway, Dieter's "doc sucker" sounds like a better alternative - I'll check it out. Regards Etienne -----Original Message----- From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2002 11:26 AM To: Etienne Labuschagne Cc: 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: Re: [Zope] Using PyDoc with Zope products Hey Etienne, bit louder this time: STOP POSTING IN HTML! Etienne Labuschagne wrote: > > I have manually added the \lib\python path of Zope into the pydoc.py > file but it has problems importing Persistent. After looking at the > Persistence folder I see it's empty and the doc string says it is "jump > started" by the __init__.py method. Sounds like it needs Zope to be available. Try putting your Zoep root dir, and <Zope root dir>/lib/python in the PYTHONPATH environment variable. That said, I think Dieter did a better doc sucker that was aimed at Zope specifically... cheers, Chris

SimpleUserFolder setup problem
by Sreekanth S Rameshaiah 03 Sep '02

Dear All, Greetings !!! I just now downloaded SimpleUserFolder ind installed in my Zope instance. Installation was sucessful. As per the installation instruction, I have created all the required ZSql methods.( i.e, addUser, deleteUser, editUser, getUserDetails, getUserNames ) in the controlpanel-> products -> Simpleuserfolder The necessary tables have been created in the database and all the querys have been tested to ensure that querys are syntactically correct. But whenever i try to create a user in acl_users folder which is SimpleuserFolder instance i get the following error. File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.4-src/lib/python/AccessControl/User.py, line 871, in manage_users (Object: acl_users) File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.4-src/lib/python/AccessControl/User.py, line 802, in _addUser (Object: acl_users) File /usr/local/zope/lib/python/Products/SimpleUserFolder/SimpleUserFolder.py, line 86, in _doAddUser (Object: acl_users) UnconfiguredException: Addition of users has not been configured Has anybody come across this error message? Is there any way around this? Thanks - sree

Returning an html page using a python script
by Steve Nicholson 03 Sep '02

03 Sep '02

Is there an equivalent way of doing the following dtml in a python script (but not using a REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect)? <dtml-return expr="editForm(_.None, _, message='Saved', DictionaryOfInfo=dict_of_info) Using: return editForm, returns the html not the actual page. Plus I want to pass misc info to the page but not as the query string. Thanks for any ideas to point me in the right direction. Richard

Attrib exceptions and None objects under heavy load?
by Etienne Labuschagne 03 Sep '02

03 Sep '02

Hmm, it seems as if I am the only one with this problem. It is probably best to move the very finely grained data into a relational type DB - I'm not sure that Zope is great for a lot of small object creation/deletion cycles anyway. I am still open to suggestions, however. Etienne

zope.org site
by H.Tan 03 Sep '02

03 Sep '02

Hi, I would like to create a website which can be administrated by NON IT user. Basically the requirement is similiar to www.zope.org where there are: -News -Events -Search -discussion -etc... So, my idea is to give the NON IT admin to update his/her website if there is any NEWS/EVENTS update. -Do you think, it is advisable to use CMF? CMF still appears complex to me as there isn't enough documentation to cover Look and Feel customization. can anyone suggest what is the good formula to develope zope.org kind of website? Regards, Herianto
