ProxyPass displaying HTML source
by Jordi YC 26 Jul '02

26 Jul '02

Hi, I am trying to use Apache as the front-end using SSL. It seems that SSL is not an issue, but I am getting HTML source code instead. As a test, I tried to use proxypass to zope.org and it worked. I can lynx 127.0.0.1:8080 and the page will be displayed correctly on the server where apache and zope are hosted. Any hint appreciated, TIA Browser screen http://somedomain.com/myzope/ Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 11:29:29 GMT Connection: close Content-Type: text/html Etag: Content-Length: 2958 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <base href="http://127.0.0.1:8080/" /> <title>Zope QuickStart</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/manage_page_style.css"> </head> <body bgcolor="#ffffff" link="#000099" alink="#000099" vlink="#000099"> httpd.conf ### Section 1: Global Environment ServerType standalone # Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path. Zope/CMF Getting Started
by Mike Lecza 26 Jul '02

26 Jul '02

In my search for a content management system I ran across CMF which sounds very intriguing. I am new to Zope and CMF. I was able to successfully install both Zope and CMF but as a user I have no clue what to do next. I was able to view everything on the manage page but what next? The CMF install text says: 4. Create a CMF object, join and begin adding content. Is there a walkthrough somewhere on how to create the CMF object? Regards

Local Roles via LDAP? NuxUserGroups?
by Chris Withers 26 Jul '02

26 Jul '02

Hi All, If I replace the root userfolder of a ZODB with an LDAP User Folder, will I still be able to grant local roles to users defined in that user folder in certain parts of the tree? The idea here is that in a CMS, you want some people to only be able to maintain content in certain areas of the site. Am I correct in assuming that the 'official' way of doing this in Zope is to give those users an anonymous role at the root of the ZODB and then give them local roles appropriate to a content maintainer in the folders where they're allowed to maintain content? If so, how would one go about giving a group of people that content maintaining role in an area of a site? Hmmm, I guess if I could grant a 'role' the local role in those areas then I could get what I'm after. Would NuxUSerGroups help in this area at all? Do they work with LDAPUserFolder? cheers, Chris

I use one SSL certificate to connect to several of my sites (www.zopegurus.de, www.hdstich.com, ...). all I get is a warning window in my browser (Opera, IE, NS) but everything else works. /hd

RE: [Zope] LocalFS guidance

Thanks Chris, you jogged my memory. Instead of calling manage_uploadForm, I used the "form" section from manage_uploadForm and called manage_upload. I added a form variable "action" with the page I want to return to after the upload, and it all works right. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Withers [mailto:chrisw@nipltd.com] Sent: Thursday, July 25, 2002 3:03 AM To: Jeff Nielsen Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] LocalFS guidance > Jeff Nielsen / UgoFast wrote: > > <form action="/images/<dtml-var > "FSSession['LoginCompanyImagesPath']">/manage_uploadForm" method="post" > enctype="multipart/form-data"> Surely you want to be submitting to the upload method not the form? cheers, Chris PS: Please don't post in HTML...

Zope Book
by Chris McDonough 25 Jul '02

25 Jul '02

Hi folks, Lately, there have been a lot of comments made to the online version of the Zope Book at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/ZopeBook/ to the effect of "when the hell is this thing going to be updated?" ;-) In the interest of preventing myself to need to answer this question in response to many disparate comments made to the book inline, please know that I am working on revising the book for the Zope 2.6 release and I will send a message out when the revision is complete and the new edition is online. It should be no more than a few weeks. - C -- Chris McDonough Zope Corporation http://www.zope.org http://www.zope.com "Killing hundreds of birds with thousands of stones"

Improving CMS Performance: Help Needed
by Klaus Herrmann 25 Jul '02

25 Jul '02

Hi Folks! We have developed a nice CMS ontop of Zope, that dynamically renders pages (with DTML and a python Product) out of special Components (e.g. text blocks and headlines). The only bad thing is: The Performance really sucks. I experienced that Zope is able to serve ~50 REQUESTs per Second on a small static page (where apache does 1500-2200), but under heavy DTML- and Python usage, Zope will only be able to serve ~ 0,5 - 5 pages per second (depending on how big the page is and how complicated its python logic). Well, i am aware of the fact that cache managers are able to dramatically improve performance, but in most cases, our content and pages are just too dynamic for the application to work w/ enabled cache (RAM or HTTP or ProxyPass). Does anyone know some hints how to get more performance out of zope? Any common Python / DTML routines that cost way too much time? Any experiances in improving Zope's speed? System is Zope-2.5.1 on FreeBSD-4-Stable and Python 2.1.3. Hardware: Tested on Xeon / 1,26GHz / 512MB RAM and Athlon / 850MHz / 256MB RAM Thanks in advance! regards, Klaus -- Goelz & Schwarz GmbH Waltherstrasse 29, 80337 Muenchen, Germany phone: + 49 - (0)89 / 54 46 70 - 0 fax: +49 - (0)89 / 54 46 70 - 10 e-mail: klaus.herrmann(a)goelz.com web: http://www.goelz.com

Look for browser id name in forms only
by Carlo Giomini 25 Jul '02

25 Jul '02

Hi, it seems to me that setting this checkbutton in the Settings tab of the browserIdManager doesn't automatically put any hidden field into the pages produced by Zope. Worse of all, the REQUEST object still has something like _ZopeId=somealphanumericcodehere in its 'HTTP_COOKIE' field. So the questions are: 1. do I have to manually code the form hidden fields containing the _ZopeId value? 2. why do I still get _ZopeId in the cookies, when I set the 'Look for browser id name in' checkbox to 'forms only'? Thanks, Carlo.
