looking for framework/help/product

Hi, I'm trying to get a quick site together that allows users to register, activate an account, and then login and access certain private sites individual to each user and based on database content (postgres or oracle). I've been told that this functionality is present in the core zope. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so where I can find documentation, or how I could do a search for info on this, or if not, which is the best zope product to use as a starting point for getting this functionality? Thanks, Ale -- Alejandro Fernandez Electronic Group Interactive --+34-65-232-8086--

Anyway, this question is still without any answer. Thanks, Josef.

RE: [Zope] How to check type of variable in DTML
by Schmidt, Allen J. 14 May '02

>From what I have seen, Zope does not do this. The link you sent has nothing relating to this issue. If I send in a string to a ZSQL method and the first block below is in the WHERE clause, then it strips off the first and last letters. If I send in a list like ['Ford','Toyota',''] then is takes the [ and ] off and gives me the correct IN syntax. I need to see if the variable coming in is a list or just a string and branch accordingly. Maybe I am going about it all wrong but this is what I am trying to do now. RE: Using Zope to generate offline content

I use the solution of Satheesh Babu with great success. I don't have his url at hand right now. Just search for this name and you´ll find his webpage with a very useful script for your problem. Zope is also very useful for static content ;-) Greetings, Elena

Hi, I just found the solution an followed the steps that are on this page: http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/SiteAccess2/info I created a Zope's test site, set an access rule, created the SiteRoot on my virtual host folder, and it worked. But then I just make the following in order to activate my main Zope site: Extract the part of HTTP_HOST we care about, and declare our rewrite dictionary. <dtml-let hostname="_.string.join(_.string.split(_.string.lower(_.string.split(HTTP_HO ST, ':')[0]), '.')[-3:], '.')" sitemap="{'mysite1.mycompany.mydomain': 'folder1', 'mymainsite.mycompany.mydomain': '/'}"> Do we have a match? <dtml-if expr="sitemap.has_key(hostname)"> Set the logical root: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SiteRootPATH', '/')"> Add physical root: <dtml-call "REQUEST['TraversalRequestNameStack'].append(sitemap[hostname])"> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> And now I can neither access the contents of my "Root Folder" through the interface nor browse the main page of my Zopesite. I just created my Zope's test site again, but I'd like to know if it is a form to disable the access rule without copying the data again? And my last question: How do you make to set the "Root Folder" as the default site? Thanks in advanced, Josef.

Locale support not working
by Garikoitz Araolaza 14 May '02

14 May '02

I have a running Zope 2.4.2 instance and for a couple of months a Zope 2.5.0 instance on the same server (Linux RH). I've noticed that locale support doesn't work properly on the "old" instance since (apparently) I installed the new one, and I'm afraid something is wrong in my start script. It looks like: #! /bin/sh reldir=`dirname $0` INST_HOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export INST_HOME STUPID_LOG_FILE=$INST_HOME/var/stupid_log_file.log export STUPID_LOG_FILE exec /usr/zope/2.4.2/bin/python \ $INST_HOME/z2.py \ "$@" -L "" The new script is exactly the same replacing the 2.4.2 with 2.5.0 So: 1- The locale support (mainly STX with non-ASCII chars) in the 2.5.0 works very well. 2- The locale support in the 2.4.2 doesn't work. What can I be doing wrong? Thanks for any help! Gari _________________________________________________________ Aurki Euskara hutsezko bilatzailea http://www.aurki.com Zure laguntza behar dugu. Common issue: Maintainance of Zope products
by Tille, Andreas 14 May '02

14 May '02

Hello, while it is a profit for Zope that there is a lot of products for the different tasks I found out that there is quite a number of those packages which render unusable under certain Zope / Python versions, are unmaintained, undocumented or in a bad state. Examples: - LocalFS (see the discussions in the mailing lists) which in the end leads to patches which are out of control of the main Zope repository http://www.easyleading.org/easyhome/index_html?content=downloadsLocalFS - TinyTable and TinyTablePlus (I tried to clear some issues about it on this list and per mail to the authors but did never got any answer) - ... This is not a good reputation for Zope if users face this problem. Suggested solution for Zope Corp.: Just look at Debian organisation: There is a maintainer for every package. If a maintainer wants to stop maintainance (which seems to be tha case for some of Zope products) he is obliged to declare to orphan the package. If there is no volunteer for the package in question there is a Quality Assurance team which cares for bugs/ enhancements/new versions. This is organized via the Debian Bug Tracking System (BTS). Please note that a software product without a person which feels responsible will sooner or later die and it would be a shame if this would happen for a number of Zope products. In my opinion Zope really needs such kind of BTS as any other big OS project. The homepage of each packages should contain a link to the list of bugs of this package to have a central repository. People who like to provide patches could send them to the BTS and so they will not be lost in space for further development. In my opinion this would really enhance the quality of Zope products and will attract even more users. Kind regards Andreas.
