How to check the result from ZSQL Method
by Terry 28 Jan '02

28 Jan '02

Hello Friends, I have a ZSQL Method would select one row from MySQL, then I take the result like this in a Python Scropt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ## (Script) Pythoon ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters=ar_id ##title= one_row = script.sql_Read_News(ar_id=ar_id,ar_publish='Y' ) for row in one_row: ar_id = row.ar_id . ....... ..... .. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The value of ar_id is right. But how do know there's a ar_id or some other properties. For example: How do I know, there is a "ar_head", "ar_subhead", or .......( You may tell me to check the field name of my table in my DB, but I would like to mix sereral row to a list and they come from different table..) Is there a function to check this, or I just use one_row.names() to memorize the list of the result. Is there a function to tell me exactly the type of result from the ZSQL Method ? ex: print type(row.ar_id) Many many thanks for your help. Have a nice day Terry

__setstate__ not happening.
by Lennart Regebro 27 Jan '02

I tried to upgrade my objects using __setstate__, but nothing happened. As far as I can tell, __setstate__ is not even called. Is there some other magic that needs to be done except creating the __setstate__ method?

External Method Question
by Tim Owen 27 Jan '02

27 Jan '02

I have what should be a simple newbie question. I need to validate an email address (just syntax for now). I found the following URL doing a Google search on "zope email": http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/0dec1f578f18f116802568a b003585d2/a1398ea9c177a77d80256b0e00647852?OpenDocument It includes sample Perl and Python code to validate email address syntax so I created the following file in the Extensions directory to be called from an external method and named it email_checker.py: >>> def valid_email(address, debug=None): import re rega = re.compile("^[0-9a-zA-Z\.\-\_]+\(a)[0-9a-zA-Z\.\-]+$") #failure a regb = re.compile("^[^0-9a-zA-Z]|[^0-9a-zA-Z]$") #failure b regc = re.compile("([0-9a-zA-Z]{1})\@.") #failure c regd = re.compile(".\@([0-9a-zA-Z]{1})") #failure d rege = re.compile(".\.\-.|.\-\..|.\.\..|.\-\-.") #failure e regf = re.compile(".\.\_.|.\-\_.|.\_\..|.\_\-.|.\_\_.") #failure f regg = re.compile(".\.([a-zA-Z]{2,3})$|.\.([a-zA-Z]{2,4})$")#failure g fail = None if rega.search(address) is None: fail = 'a' elif regb.search(address) is not None: fail = 'b' elif regc.search(address) is None: fail = 'c' elif regd.search(address) is None: fail = 'd' elif rege.search(address) is not None: fail = 'e' elif regf.search(address) is not None: fail = 'f' elif regg.search(address) is None: fail = 'g' if fail is not None: if debug: return address, fail,None else: return None if debug: return address,1,1 else: return 1 <<< Then I tried to create an external method from the ZMI with the following definition: >>> Id: email_checker Title: Email Address Validator Module Name: email_checker Function Name: valid_email <<< When I tried to save it I get the following error: >>> Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: SyntaxError Error Value: invalid syntax (email_checker.py, line 1) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Troubleshooting Suggestions The URL may be incorrect. The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. <<< I went through the Zope Book examples, but there is no assistance when errors occur. Just refers you to the Python web site for more details. First, is there a better way to validate email addresses (I am not using CMF)? If not, what am I doing wrong with the external method? Thanks in advance. ___________________ Tim Owen

In stead of the commercial Dave, you can use the free appletalk support on linux. Don't remember the name... I shared a directory on a linux server, both with SMB and by appletalk. Works great. Mail if you want the details. Securing acl_users change password forms
by Adam Manock 27 Jan '02

27 Jan '02

Problem: Allowing users who have no rights to the Zope management interface to change their own passwords using an dtml method that collects at least the following from the user: Old Password New Password Confirm New Password Creating a form to do this is easy if you're using XUF and you are storing account info in a Postgres database for example (See pgAuthSource / pgAuthSourceAlt of exUserFolder) When using stock acl_users I found it got a little ugly. I thought the below would work for checking that the user changing the password actually knew the old password and was not just someone walking up to someone else's computer at lunchtime: <dtml-if "_.SecurityGetUser().authenticate(REQUEST.form['oldPassword'], REQUEST)"> But last time I looked it didn't work without making a change to Zope's AccessControl/User.py. Changing this: def __allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects__(self, name, value=None): deny_names=('name', '__', 'roles', 'domains', '_getPassword', 'authenticate', '_shared_roles') if name in deny_names: return 0 return 1 To this: def __allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects__(self, name, value=None): deny_names=('name', '__', 'roles', 'domains', '_getPassword', '_shared_roles') if name in deny_names: return 0 return 1 Of course doing that potentially opens up a whole new can of worms... Am I missing something? Is there a way to do a change password form for users defined in acl_users that checks the old password first without also hacking User.py? Adam

Debugging and Zope: Strangeness with continue
by Lennart Regebro 27 Jan '02

27 Jan '02

The need for shutting down Zope, going into python manually and then making a manual request means that debugging for me usually is to complicated to be worth it, and the result is that I instead debug by making tons of 'print "DEBUG":, whatvereiwant toknow' statements. Thats not always very efficient, and its almost impossible to debug code where the whats happening is not just the request of a simple URL, so I have been looking for better ways. I discovered this, almost good way: Where I want the code to break so I can examine it, I write: import pdb pdb.set_trace() And hey presto, the code I want to debug pops up in the debugger, I still interact with Zope through the web, and I actually can spend time debugging the problem I have, instead of trying to figure out how to recreate the problem with the debugger command line. But there is a huge problem: After I have stepped through the function I want to debug, I can't stop debugging. 'continue' is supposed to run until the next breakpoint, but it doesn't. Instead after several continues, Zope starts waiting for the next request, and as soon as it gets it, it stops, waiting for a debugger command. This is very annoying, to say the least. Can somebody tell me why or tell me how to fix this? I have found an ugly workaround. When Zope during the next request stops and waits in the debugger, I to an 'ignore' command. This prints out an error, and throws that request into the great binary void, but at least I can then again work with Zope without having to write 'c<enter>' 20 times for each request....
