Editing ZClasses - Hole in Documentation
by Ronald L. Chichester 16 Nov '01

16 Nov '01

Okay, I just want to point out a "hole" in the documentation that is consistent among the various "HOWTO's" and other documentation, such as mukhsein's "Build a searchable Job Board." They all provide a way to create and add objects, but don't go that last mile and provide any guidance on who to _edit_ the properties in a ZClass. The problem with ZClasses is that the properties have to be accessed through the propertysheets. That creates an extra hrutle for the developer in creating a _complete_ system (which, of course, includes the ability to edit what was created). Some of us have products we would like to roll out that require that users (including managers, owners, and yes, sometimes even anonymous (if your organization can handle that)) to edit the ZClass instance once it has been instantiated. I'm still hunting for either documentation or an example that has this capability. In a few instances, I have seen people say it is "trivial." It may be, once you find out how. Unfortunately, there is still some smoke and mirrors here. The solution isn't obvious to the casual developer. If someone can prove me wrong, I would be thrilled to know about it. Best, Ron

RE: [Zope] Connecting to MS SQL Server
by Pieter Claerhout 16 Nov '01

I think you overlooked the fact that we are talking about Microsoft SQL Server and not about MySQL. For MS SQL Server, I think you have two options: - ZODBCDA and an ODBC driver for MS SQL on your linux box - ZSybaseDA: should work as well, but I'm not sure which versions are compatible with each other and which are not. Both SQL server and Sybase use and understand FreeDTS. In Zope itself, once you have the right database adapter, you can use ZSQL methods and so on as Chris described below. Here are some handy links: http://www.zope.org/Products/DA/SybaseDA/ http://www.zope.org/Products/DA/ZODBCDA/ http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/RelationalDatabases.dtml Good luck... Once installed you create a ZMySQLDA database conection and can then use ZSQL methods... Re: acl_users access
by Juan Garcia Garcia 16 Nov '01

Hi, i would solve this problem in the Proxy tab of the script. There, you must select the Manager proxy role and save the changes. With the proxy roles you give the selected role to the user when accessing this object, so an anonymous user could access to the acl_users folder. acl_users access
by belen＠netcom.no 15 Nov '01

Hello, I am implementing a self registering form for new users to gain access to zope. Users should fill in some data and a python Script assigns them a password as well as domains and roles. Or what is the same , the script creates a new user. When testing the Python Script I was logged in as me with manager role so everything worked fine, but if someone with no previous login wants to create a user, he is prompted to provide a login and password. The problem is that they cannot access the acl_users folder (since they are no users and obviously the have no permissions) . What could I do to make this work? Thanks a lot in advance for your help, Belén This is the Script: import string from Products.PythonScripts.standard import html_quote request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE if context.acl_users.getUser(request.form['name']): RESPONSE.redirect('/UserAlreadyExists') else: context.acl_users.manage_users('Add', context.REQUEST) context.confirmLoginByMail(request.form['name'], request.form ['email']) RESPONSE.redirect('/UserHasBeenAdded')

Question about Versioning support
by Nicolae P. Costescu 15 Nov '01

15 Nov '01

I noticed that Zope does provide some versioning control through WebDAV, but it seems to only work for text files (.html, .txt, etc.) When I copy a .doc file or other binary doc to to one of my webfolders, and then I go look at it in Zope, the History tab does not appear. It does when the file is of type .txt. or .html or any other text format. I read about the ZopeVersion project but that is a long way off. If there is a way to turn on versioning for non-text files (the way Xythos web server implements DAV & Delta-V) that would be great! Thanks! AW: [Zope] Calling external Methods blocks ZODBCDA
by Krone, Armin 15 Nov '01

Hello some new Material about my Problem: I have set up a Zope-Python-Scipt called 'GetMallMerchantID' which is called from an external Server. This Scipt starts, but holds until an other (independent) Python-Script called 'Dispatcher' ist ready. 'GetMallMerchantID' does some Log in a SQL-Database. Are there the simultanous ZODBC requests limmited? What can be the reason? Problems with permissions
by nico＠nfg.nl 15 Nov '01

15 Nov '01

Goodmorning, I'm having some problems with adding a new product to a website. I can add the product in my test-folder, but not in the website. It isn't shown in the list with addable products. I think it has something to do with the permissions. Here is my __init__.py file: import FormMail def initialize(context): try: context.registerClass( instance_class=FormMail.FormMail, permission='Add MailFormulier', constructors = ( FormMail.FormMail_Add, FormMail.manage_FormMail_Add, ), ) except: import sys, traceback, string type, val, tb = sys.exc_info() sys.stderr.write(string.join(traceback.format_exception(type, val, tb), '')) del type, val, tb and here are my permission settings: __ac_permissions__=( ('View management screens', ('manage_main',)), ('Change permissions', ('manage_access',), ('Owner', 'Manager')), ('Change MailFormulier', ('manage_edit',''), ('Owner', 'Manager')), ('View', ('index_html', 'view_form','manage_form'), ('Anonymous', 'Owner', 'Manager')), ) Can anyone help me solving my problem?

Keyerror with Data.fs
by Chris Kratz 15 Nov '01

15 Nov '01

Suddenly as of today, I am getting the following error with a folder in our data.fs. Any ideas why this might have started happening, and secondly, what are my options? Any ideas on how it might have happened? What's strange is that we have been doing relatively heavy development out of the data.fs. Interestingly enough, another programmer is working in a version and inside of that version, this folder is fine. Now, I'm a little afraid to cut in the version work. all dtml rendering as source after 2.4 upgrade (heelp)
by Simon Michael 15 Nov '01

15 Nov '01

This is bizarre.. upgraded from 2.3.x to 2.4.2. Zope seems to be running fine except that all DTML is shown in source mode - my own methods, the ZMI etc. Purged and reinstalled a clean zope 2.4, fired it up again with my old data.fs, same thing. Anyone got any ideas why this could happen or how to fix ? Short of downgrade, export, upgrade, import ? Thanks in advance, -Simon
