Whenever, you look up an attribute in an ExtensionClass instance, "i", and the directly looked up object, "o", (!) has an "__of__" method, the result is not "o" but "o.__of__(i)". In your example, "x" is looked up in "c.__of__(b.__of__(a))". If we assume, that "x" has a "__of__" method, the result will be: "x1.__of__(c.__of__(b.__of__(a))" with "x1" the result of directly looking up "x" in "c.__of__(b.__of__(a))". "x" is first looked up in "c". As it is not found there, it is looked up in "b.__of__(a)". Thus, we have "x1=(b.__of__(a)).x" As "b.__of__(a)" is an ExtensionClass instance (and we assumed "x" has an "__of__" method). The result will be "x2.__of__(b.__of__(a))" with "x2" the result of directly looking up "x" in "b.__of__(a)". "x" is first looked up in "b". As it is not found there, it is looked up in "a". Thus, we have "x2= a.x" If "a" is an ExtensionClass instance, then "a.x" is "x.__of__(a)". Put things together and you will get the complex result. Dieter

"Acquisition Algebra"; interaction of containment and acquisition is confusing
by Fred Yankowski 26 Jan '01

26 Jan '01

Can anyone help me understand what's going on in the last example of the main "Acquisition" document, <http://www.digicool.com/releases/ExtensionClass/Acquisition.html>? I think I understand how the various "complex expressions" relate to the equivalent expression in terms of the '__of__' operator, except for the very last case, "a.b.c.x". I just can't follow why the equivalent expression isn't x.__of__(a).__of__(c.__of__(b.__of__(a))) rather than the more complex answer given: x.__of__(a).__of__(b.__of__(a)).__of__(c.__of__(b.__of__(a))) When I run the test cases given in the document I see that the latter does match the behavior, but I find that baffling. In particular, why is the effective search order x-a-b-c rather than x-a-c-b? It almost looks like the effective search order could be described as "up through the containment heirarchy, then down through the remaining acquired path", but I'm not at all sure if that's a valid generalization. You will get 0 rows if you use max_rows=0. -Randy -----Original Message----- From: Ron Bickers [mailto:rbickers@logicetc.com] Sent: Friday, January 26, 2001 10:05 AM To: Ron Bickers; Andy Dustman; Randall F. It already does that. So if you want to make your own LIMIT clause, just set max_rows to 0. Correct me, Andy, if this is a bad thing. _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc. rbickers(a)logicetc.com

ZMySQLDA problems after upgrade
by Randall F. Kern 26 Jan '01

I recently moved my product from zope 2.2.5 with ZMySQLDA 1.1.4 and MySQLDB 0.1.2 to a Zope 2.3.0b3 with new mysql code (MySQL-python-0.3.0, and ZMySQLDA 2.0.1). With these changes, I've found a couple problems, and was wondering if others where familiar with any of these problems, if some might be configuration issues. 1) All field values appear as strings in python This is the issue I hope is my own configuration mistake. Using the old product, field values where auto-converted to compatible python types; so int fields would be int's in python, not strings. This has broken many things in my product, and although I can patch all my queries to call int()/float()/etc on the results, there is code in MySQL-python to auto-convert field values. 2) select ... limit a[,b] This doesn't work anymore, and that just appears to be a bug in ZMySQLDA. I have a patch if anyone is interested. (Problem is that DB.query() adds a limit clause to the query, based on the max_rows argument. This makes windowing (using two arguments with limit) impossible.) Thanks, -Randy

Here's the description I > just submitted to the Collector: Yeah great, I'm bitten again. We had the same (upload) problem here and I didn't have time to think about it, but thanks to your debugging I know now for sure that I have quite a problem. Michel Pelletier and Chris McDonough explained it a bit in answers to this message: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/zope-archive.nsf/ByKey/7C20E9F401FF8087 Chris even had a workaround: --- A solution is to add the following methods to the database adapter's DB class inside DB.py: def commit_sub(self, *arg, **kw): pass def abort_sub(self, *arg, **kw): pass --- The above is also used in the alpha version of DC's newest oracle adapter DCOracle2, As we use Loginmanager with postgres, I have know idea how to not invoke Z SQL methods when upload. Has anybody an idea if and under what circumstances the above snipped could do harm? cheers, oliver

sending variables/parameters via hyperlink

hello people, i am extremely new to zope. from the time i have sent this email i would have been 4 hours old as a zope newbie. i would just like to congratulate the people responsible for zope. like i said before, it is a content managers dream come true. anyway, i seem to have a thing i cannot do. we can pass variables/parameters via post in a webform. however, i would like to pass as variable/parameter via a hyperlink. in regular html i would be something like <a href="newpage.htm?variablename=value">Sent value to newpage.htm</a> i get this error: --------error start---------o Error response Error code 400. Message: Bad Request. -------error end------------o is this expected behavior? if so what should i do so emulate something like this method of paramter/variable passing using anchors? thanks. -------------------------------------- William Emmanuel S.
