Login Form / User Registration Code Snippets
by Gerald Gutierrez 22 Jan '01

I remember that someone, somewhere, has a document with code snippets to do authentication and registration of users through forms, much like how www.zope.org does it. Does anyone know where this is? Thanks

LoginManager disrupts access to protected object above it
by Itai Tavor 22 Jan '01

22 Jan '01

Hi, This problem started with failure to access Control_Panel, which I thought was due to a SiteAccess problem... but I now tracked it to a problem with an instance of LoginManager. I have the following setup: Zope 2.3.0b2 ZPatterns 0.4.3b2 LoginManager 0.8.8b1 Zope/ test1 (PythonScript) requires Manager to view folder/ test2 (PythonScript) Manager proxy role acl_users (LoginManager) test1: return 'spam' test2: return container.test1 Calling test2 results in the traceback attached below. If I remove acl_users, test2 works. The LoginManager is a bit tricky, as it uses a virtual UserSource loading user objects from an external Specialist, but it seems to work in every other way. I have no idea if this problem is due to a bug in my LoginManager implementation or a general LoginManager bug. Can anyone explain this or suggest a way to find out what is going wrong? ZSQL Methods in ZClasses...
by Curtis Maloney 21 Jan '01

21 Jan '01

Green things, Am I missing something, or should I just simply not be using ZSQL methods in my ZClass? If I try to add one, I get an error about there not being a DB connection object (which makes sense) and won't let me add the object. I was planning on making the constructor find all available DB connections, and make the user select one. Have a better one, Curtis Maloney

Index out of range
by Tim Cook 21 Jan '01

21 Jan '01

Error Type: IndexError Error Value: list index out of range I am importing a text file via an external method. I did my testing with a file that contained 18 records. All went fine. Stepped up the testing to a file with 550 records. The real thing will have over 30,000. Now it doesn't work. :-) It's not a memory issue or anything that you would expect with an increase i records. Anyway, here's the link to where I can the results. I also added a method to display the dictionary contents (raw mode) for testing. I don't see anything wrong with it. I have a ZClass that I will be creating instances of, when I get the code right. :-) http://www.freepm.org:8080/tkfpm/Drugs/multum_update Here's the HTML method: ------------------------------------------------------ <dtml-var standard_html_header> <table border="3" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="5"> ...(table headers removed for bandwith's sake) <dtml-let drugs="importmultum()"> <dtml-in "drugs.keys()"> <dtml-if sequence-even> <tr bgcolor="#77ccbb"> <dtml-else> <tr bgcolor="#cc6600"> </dtml-if> <dtml-let dictkey=sequence-item> <td><dtml-var sequence-number></td> <td><dtml-var dictkey></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][0]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][1]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][2]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][3]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][4]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][5]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][6]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][7]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][8]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][9]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][10]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][11]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][12]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][13]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][14]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][15]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][16]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][17]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][18]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][19]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][20]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][21]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][22]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][23]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][24]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][25]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][26]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][27]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][28]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][29]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][30]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][31]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][32]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][33]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][34]"></td> <td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][35]"></td> </dtml-let> </tr> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> </table> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The RAW dictionary dump method: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <pre> <dtml-let drugs="importmultum()"> <b>Number of items:</b> <dtml-var "_.len(drugs.keys())"><br> <p> <dtml-in "drugs.keys()"> <dtml-let dictkey=sequence-item> <dtml-var sequence-number>   <dtml-var sequence-item>  <b>Length:</b> <dtml-var "_.len(drugs[dictkey])">  <dtml-var "drugs[dictkey]"><br> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> </pre> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found that if I just include the first element of the list (<td><dtml-var "drugs[dictkey][0]"></td>) the HTML table renders. Bug "Export Product and inheritance" (2). Any more description about XML export format?
by Thierry Nabeth 21 Jan '01

21 Jan '01

Hello, I am still struggling to find a way to solve the bug (even manualy) relate to exporting a package in which a class inherits from a class of another package. Do you have any more details about the Import XML format ? I want to see if I can edit manually this file in order to solve the fact that I lost inheritance from one class to another class that is defined in another package. For instance in the file .../OFS/XMLExportImport.py we have: def save_record(parser, tag, data): file=parser.file write=file.write pos=file.tell() file.seek(pos) a=data[1] if a.has_key('id'): oid=a['id'] oid=ppml.p64(string.atoi(oid)) v='' for x in data[2:]: v=v+x l=ppml.p64(len(v)) v=oid+l+v return v def importXML(jar, file, clue=''): import Shared.DC.xml.pyexpat.pyexpat pyexpat=Shared.DC.xml.pyexpat.pyexpat if type(file) is StringType: file=open(file) outfile=TemporaryFile() data=file.read() F=ppml.xmlPickler() F.end_handlers['record'] = save_record F.end_handlers['ZopeData'] = save_zopedata F.start_handlers['ZopeData'] = start_zopedata F.binary=1 F.file=outfile p=pyexpat.ParserCreate() p.CharacterDataHandler=F.handle_data p.StartElementHandler=F.unknown_starttag p.EndElementHandler=F.unknown_endtag r=p.Parse(data) outfile.seek(0) return jar.importFile(outfile, clue) Would it be possible to have a couple of lines of comments ? Thank you Thierry Nabeth INSEAD CALT http://www.insead.edu/CALT/ Note: This BUG makes almost impossible all serious reuse of package in Zope. (if you want to use inheritance, since you can not get newer version of the package you reuse). I am very surprised that nobody did not give any comment to my previous message !!!

RE: Workflow and document management system in Zope
by Nicolas Pettiaux 21 Jan '01

21 Jan '01

Dear Mr boulanger, Under the suggestion of Jerry, I came to look at your contribution t the zope mailing list (I am really new at usins and experimenting ZOpe). I am looking for a workflow (WF) linked to a electronic document management (EDM) system and a groupware email based (I have just happened to come accross aethera from the Kompany) that would be free software and preferably in Zope + Python. The WF+DEM system I am looking for need to be usable with only a browser (to be independant from the client ... that could be proprietary !), store its data into a postgresql database. It should be demonstrablable (at least showable into a proof of concept) within 2 weeks and be already installable and usable within 2 or 3 months. (I have obtained taoday that the date when we'll decide on the system would be postponed 2 weeks from wednesday 24/1 to wed 7/2) If I could find such a marvel, I may find the money to pay for it, at least 50000 $ to start with (this amount is a rapid guess; I may give more precise amounts we could spend in the following week) The idea is to use that combination of tools INSTEAD of buying a closed, proprietary solution (that may exist but be expensive and really har to parametrize), that NEED to be linked to a SAP ERP system. All suggestions and ideas are welcome, also on the selection criteria. (I happen to be responsible for the IT dept of the public institution that wants to buy such a tool, but be new in the place and do not yet know a lot about WF and EDM !) Soon I may be able to give you more details about the requirements. -- quoted from your mails -- I am very interested in a general, fairly full featured workflow system on top of Zope as opposed to using an external workflow product for a fundamental reason. While one could come up with a way of getting what I need with an external system, it would be messy. I need workflows to be explicit and versioned. We make use of ZODB to version content that end users generate. We don't make use of Zope's versioning but use or own hierarchical version tree which is easy to do in Zope. End users generate new workflows and revisit past workflows. The user sees this versioning as notebook pages using a scientific notebook metaphor. + also http://www.ics.uci.edu/pub/endeavors/endeavors.html See also the papers and the web-based workflow thesis at: http://www.ics.uci.edu/pub/endeavors/docs/papers/ It is much cleaner to use ZODB and ZPublisher to do all this instead of having a version tree in Zope and a bunch of correspondences to outside objects in an external workflow system. Thus, there is a lot of value in having a fairly general workflow system whose representation and publishing uses ZODB and ZPublisher. By the way, if there are other folks interested in such a workflow system let me know. We may just bite the bullet and build one. I have who will do most of the coding in mind. > Especially I don't. What are the deadline you may think about ? What would > be the developpement and support cost you or the people you can think about > may charge ? (added by Nicolas) What will be produced is a Zope-based workflow system with a java thin client visual workflow/dataflow editor. Right now I do not have the funding but folks with resources could speak now ;-). > Here do I do it. Thanks for your interest. SQL query result set - what data structure & how to access [(elements)]?
by Lee 21 Jan '01

21 Jan '01

Hi, I'm using a python method to query my database as follows, where I need to use the result set to generate some HTML. I'm interested in result[0] and result[1] as listed below; * return result[0] gives me: [{'name': 'PRACTICALS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, {'name': 'TUTORIALS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, {'name': 'ASSIGNMENTS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}, {'name': 'BONUS', 'type': 's', 'null': None, 'width': None}] * return result[1] (or just 'return result') gives me: [(1, 16, 9, 1)] What kind of data structure is this? First impressions suggest that it's a tuple but why the extra brackets?. I need to access each element but how do I do this? I've tried all sort of tuple/list conversions/operations and have had no success. If the result is [(1, 16, 9, 1)] how can I assign... a=1st element i.e. 1 b=2nd element i.e 16..? I can convert it to a string, parse it and obtain the results that way, which is simple enough, but surely there's a way to access the element directly? Does anyone know? Thanks, Lee
