REPOST: dtml-with doesn't work

Hopefully that will get someone's attention. I have an SQL method that returns (name, domain, otherstuff) I have a DTML method (/root/host/show) that looks like this: <dtml-comment> 'name' and 'domain' are set to the primary hostname and domain at this point by whatever calls this DTML method POINT A </dtml-comment> <dtml-in "HDB_get_ip_aliases(ip=ip)"> <dtml-comment>POINT B</dtml-comment> <dtml-let name2=name domain2=domain> <dtml-with alias> <dtml-comment>POINT C</dtml-comment> <dtml-with "_.namespace(name=name2,domain=domain2)"> <dtml-comment>POINT D</dtml-comment> <dtml-var show> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> The folder structure is: /root /alias show /host show At the points marked B and D, <dtml-var name> and <dtml-var domain> work fine, but at point B, name and domain have been reset to what they were at point A. Why? This is totally broken - I'm *this* far from downloading the servlet engine and giving up completely. Zope appears to be completely non-intuitive in many respects, and combined with the generally lamentable documentation, is taking up more of my time than I'm willing to spend on a theoretically simple task. RE: [Zope] Caching/http-acceleration and proxying Zope-served con tent

Hmm. That's been my thought on squid as well, given its ground-up design for caching in the first place. My worry, though, is that with squid I lose support for virtual hosts on seperate boxes, because I need to support Zope, static content, and some legacy stuff running ColdFusion on an NT box. My impression is that Squid's http accelerator mode (inverse transparent proxy, or whatever you want to call it) is somewhat of an afterthought compared to the standard proxy use case. If it supports the ability to direct traffic based upon the virtual host address, then squid works - if not, I think I have to go the Apache route... I also wonder just how good Apache's mod_proxy caching is? Any thoughts? Any big pitfalls to this > kind of setup with Zope sites? I would prefer Squid since its only purpose in life is caching. It follows the "do one thing and do it well" mantra. But whatever your choice, I hope you make use of the new CacheManagement feature in Zope 2.3. It is designed to make things like this straightforward and easy. There's a recent news announcement that links to everything you need--including complete help docs! Holiday Calendar anyone? (cont.)

[ sorry for the broken up email. I accidently pushed Ctrl+Return] ... Doesn't have to be a Zope product. Not even Python for that matter. Just as long as it is possible to _integrate_ with a zope site. Thanks, Peter

I've been asked to put up a Holiday Calendar on our Intranet by my HR. We're currently using Squishdot and EventFolder for the Intranet frontpage. Does anybody have or know of anything that might save me some time? Doesn'

Import problem
by Andreas Tille 10 Jan '01

10 Jan '01

Hello, I tried to create my first class following a tutorial. I exported the rudimentary class via export function. Now I wanted to import it on my laptop to continue working on it but importing failed with the message: The object <my_class_name> does not support this operation What could be wrong here? Which information do you possibly need? Is there a document to read first before trying such stuff? Kind regards and sorry for this simple question Andreas.

permissions problem upgrading to 2.3.0a1 from 2.1.6
by Jerome Alet 10 Jan '01

10 Jan '01

Hi, I've been using 2.1.6 for a long time without any problem, using a home compiled python 1.5.2 Yesterday I've tried to upgrade to 2.3.0a1 the following way: export each and every home made sites and products (ZClasses) from 2.1.6 stop 2.1.6 install 2.3.0a1 and start it import each and every exported sites and products (I've not tried using the same Data.fs as 2.1.6) In all instances of a ZClass I've made, I used to (in 2.1.6) call a DTML method from my browser which was protected in a way to display the authentication box, allowing me to enter my username and password. The username and password should give me a role created in the ZClass instance constructor, this role is allowed to create and modify some subobjects (another ZClass) Since I've installed 2.3.0a1 then when I tell my browser to "call" the DTML method the authentication box appears but I'm not able to authenticate myself: it always give me an unauthorized exception. Looking at zope log it gives me a 401 error on the DTML method. If I modify this method to do nothing but return plain text the problem persists. I've checked several times the username and password and I'm sure I've typed them correctly. In one instance of my ZClass I've tried to give all permissions to the created role, but with no luck. I've finally stopped 2.3.0a1 and relaunched the 2.1.6. Does someone have any idea of where the problem may come from ? Should I try to use the same Data.fs of 2.1.6 ? Should I try to use 2.2.5 instead of 2.3.0a1 (I'd like to be able to use PythonScripts) ? Thanks in advance. RE: [Zope] Tux & Zope?
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 10 Jan '01

10 Jan '01

I have extensively looked over the documentation, and am in the midst of compiling for the first time on my PC. Haven't tried it already, though; my main reason, is that I operate most of my Linux servers on Sun hardware, and am waiting for the dust to settle on 2.4.0 before I start trying to work with Tux; Tux is (in theory) only tested for i386, thought I don't see any reason (offhand) it won't work on Linux/sparc (unless there are some endian issues I am not aware of with the kernel-space module). The main advantage to Tux is that it caches TCP checksums (for all the content it serves, I believe), reducing CPU load, which seems likes a good idea (especially if you have hardware - like Sun - where your CPU is a bigger bottleneck than the bus, I/O, etc). Anyway, as complicated as it sounds, I am going to be setting up some new servers that likely have a configuration that uses Tux on port 80 (serving images only), Apache on 8080 (serving static pages, and logging access), and ZServer on 9080. Tux would proxy to Apache, and once that was set up, I could set up an Apache mod_proxy connection to Zope using the ideas in the howtos. This way, I get fast serving of images and multimedia via Tux, a full Apache config, and Zope running with virtual hosts. Once I try this config, I will let everyone know how it works out. What I would really like to see is this: Images and multi-media that can be served by Tux, but managed by Zope, so that all content is managed, but serving the images and multi-media is really fast, and not reliant on the ODB. I thought I saw something about a product that is like OFS:File & OFS:Image, but saves the files to the filesystem - that kind of thing might work for such a config. Sean -----Original Message----- From: Jonathan [mailto:admin@ur.nl] Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2001 3:09 AM To: Zope Mailinglist Subject: [Zope] Tux & Zope? Hi all, Just one of those things that keeps popping up on my list of 'things I should try': Zope behind the Tux webserver. For those who do not know: Tux is a very fast webserver for Linux because it operates at kernel level. It can pass requests it can't handle to another server, ZServer for example. Any tried it already?
