ZWiki rocks our world
by Timothy Grant 15 Dec '00

I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to those who created ZWiki. We are embarking on a significantly large development project. Communications are always problematic in those situations. However, the ZWiki tools have improved communications and the global knowledge store by several orders of magnitude. So to those concerned. Re: [Zope] Perl Scripting in Zope
by Mike Kelland 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

I've got about 3/4 of my application built in Zope (entirely in dtml I'm afraid to say) but I'm reaching a point where it's difficult to continue with only DTML (things like complicated database structures and validation of input fields) and since I don't quite know python yet (currently teaching myself) and I'm adept at Perl, I'd like to incorporate Perl Scripts into my app. I got the pyperl-1.0.beta.tar.gz and zoperl-1.0.beta.tar.gz modules from ActiveState but I really have no idea if they're Win32 compatible (or only on Linux/Unix etc) and if they are, how to install them. I'm reluctant now to switch to a standalone Perl solution now that I've invested so much time into the Zope one. Thanks for your help! Has Perl Scripting support been ported to Win yet and if so could someone possibly run me through the procedure of installing it (I'm a bit of a newb to installing ports in Win32)? Thanks very much! Re: [Zope] ZWiki hierarchy seems to be broken

Wait! Is this what you've been seeing ? http://joyful.com/zwiki/link ie no title at all ? That's a BUG, thank you. Looks like certain pages, like the above and http://joyful.com/zwiki/page%20about%20nothing , get an empty string from context() and don't appear in the map. Both the above point to SandBox as their parent, and SandBox points to MyNewTestPage, and MyNewTestPage points back to SandBox. Maybe something about that tight loop. When one goes to SandBox/backlinks and clicks reparent, all pages look normal again. -Simon

Dreamweaver, webdav and Zope
by Max Møller Rasmussen 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

I have just upgraded to DreamWeaver 4.0. Lo and behold, it has webDav support. I can open the site in DreamWeaver and it looks just great. It would be a really, I mean REALLY, nice management interface for Zope. Two problems though: 1) I cannot open my dtml methods in Dreamweaver as they have no extensions. Appart from giving them extensions has anybody had succes with this in Dreamweaver? I can solve it by dragging them onto an empty page, but that ain't to neat. It also only gives the code view. 2) The files that DreamWeaver gets over is rendered html files. So it is not actually dtml, but the html resulting from the dtml method. Anybody has a clue to why this is? Regards Max M

How to pass parameters to dtml methods in making <dtml-call>
by Dirksen 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

Hi, The case is like this: <dtml-var "some_dtml_method(_.None, _, para='blablabla')"> Works fine. <dtml-call "some_dtml_method(_.None, _, para='blablabla')"> The system complains the para being unknown. How come? cheers Dirksen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Shopping - Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. http://shopping.yahoo.com/

IE5 / Medusa bug?
by seb bacon 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

Tempting fate by claiming a bug...but although I'm sure I'm at fault here, there's no sensible reason for the results I'm getting. When I view one of several different pages with IE5, the last 11 bytes don't reach the browser. I've got a couple of other people to try it out. One of them reported the same symptoms, the other didn't. I don't get it with Netscape. I'd *really* appreciate it if anyone who has IE5 could have a go at http://test.jamkit.com and let me know (you can tell if the bug's happened if the source ends abruptly with something like '</ta'). Things I've deduced: - http://test.jamkit.com/index_html works :S - It's not related to the bad HTML in that example page (I've tried pages with perfect HTML) - It's related to how I've built the page (the Zope Welcome screen is fine, other pages built using the same product don't work. The product I'm building is a folderish thing with lots of extra navigational services) - it's always the last 11 bytes that are missing, however large the page is - I've sent exact copies of the HTTP headers to the server, using telnet, and there's no problem there I imagine the fact that I can make it work by adding index_html is the most telling point, but it's not telling me anything ;) I'll continue my research by eliminating elements until I've nailed down exactly the bit that's messing it up. Right now, though, I have to go to bed. Meanwhile, any comments? Cheers, seb

CoreSessionTracking Release 0.2
by Chris McDonough 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

I had some reports yesterday of the Core Session Tracking development code not working against recent Zope 2.2 releases, so I removed dependencies in the code on the Interface module which were causing the incompatibilities. CoreSessionTracking 0.1 will work against Zope 2.3a1, but not against Zope 2.2.3, 2.2.4, etc. A new release of the code which has these dependencies removed, 0.2, is available from http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/Products/CoreSessionTracking . This release works against all Zope 2.2.X based systems, AFAIK. Thanks! - Chris

charset from forms input
by Matt 15 Dec '00

15 Dec '00

Hi, I seem to have come across the depressing fact that most browsers will not return a charset parameter in the http header when a form is submitted. For example, the following from Netscape ... (it happens with both IE and Netscape on many platforms I have tried ... Mac, all Windows, and Linux). POST /hi HTTP/1.0 Referer: http://localhost:8080/temp/test_form Connection: Keep-Alive User-Agent: Mozilla/4.72 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.14-5.0 i686) Host: 172.16.21.165:50009 Accept: image/gif, image/x-xbitmap, image/jpeg, image/pjpeg, image/png, */* Accept-Encoding: gzip Accept-Language: en Accept-Charset: iso-8859-1,*,utf-8 Content-type: multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------17670043309955870831526446972 Content-Length: 180 So much for a useful Content-type. I know this is NOT a zope issue, but I was hoping someone had an easy answer. There is such a myriad of character encodings out there that is makes it quite difficult to handle. The example that most frustrates us are the two byte encodings vs the one. I.e. : two common defaults people set their browsers on in windows are either Western (ISO) or Western (Windows) ... the former being a two byte encoding set and the latter being a one byte(presumably ISO-8859-1 + the unhelpful use of the control set 0x85 - 0x95(hex)). People often copy and paste from word into form text inputs, and as a quick hack we made up a byte conversion table for the "Microsoft" range. So Western(Windows) works, but of course Western(ISO) does not. How does one detect these? and more the point, how does one test easily for any of the other encoding standards? Surely this has bugged a lot of people? regards Matt
