How to make a table with sortable colmns?

reading zope.config file for ClientStorage

To initialize ZEO clients with ClientStorage I need info such as host, port, etc. All the needed stuff is tucked away nicely in the zope.config file and I would like to be using the zope machinery access it. I know that what I need is in there somewhere, but when I try to follow how it happens in say the Zope startup, I get lost in all the dependencies and my head starts swirling. I would like to be able to use something like is in ZODB/config.py: class ZEOClient(BaseConfig): def open(self): from ZEO.ClientStorage import ClientStorage # config.server is a multikey of socket-address values # where the value is a socket family, address tuple. L = [server.address for server in self.config.server] return ClientStorage( L, storage=self.config.storage, cache_size=self.config.cache_size, name=self.config.name, client=self.config.client, var=self.config.var, min_disconnect_poll=self.config.min_disconnect_poll, max_disconnect_poll=self.config.max_disconnect_poll, wait=self.config.wait, read_only=self.config.read_only, read_only_fallback=self.config.read_only_fallback, username=self.config.username, password=self.config.password, realm=self.config.realm) here BaseConfig has that bit of magic that has self.config. I guess I need to know how to instantiate this class. Any ideas? David P. Mika

Write log file from script

I am looking for a simple strategy to write a debug log file from a python script. I used to have such a beast but somewhere in a shuffle it got lost -- and my brain seems to be dead this morning trying to figure it out. Anybody out there have something like this or a url explaining how to do it?

Method cache (Memoize) for Zope

Has anybody written a Memoize-like decorator for Zope? I imagine that it could be a nice feature to have a standard decorator for Zope that would cache results in a _v_ volatile variable. I usually do it a bit like this:: def _cache_it(self, meth, *args, **kwargs): cache_name = '_v_%s' % meth.__name__ if not hasattr(self, cache_name): result = meth(*args, **kwargs) setattr(self, cache_name, result) return getattr(self, cache_name) def _some_function(self): # do expensive calculations and return result return 42 def some_function(self, *args, **kwargs): "Returns cached values" return self._cache_it(self._some_function, *args, **kwargs) But I guess that there must be someone who has allready written a more generic way to do it via generators? -- hilsen/regards Max M, Denmark http://www.mxm.dk/ IT's Mad Science

ooops... ZMYSQL tests fail in the ZMI on batching dynamic queries

Sorry for the long message, but there's a lot of context. I've tried to factor the problem out and then provide supporting stuff for the interested. Zope 2.7.6, Python 2.4.1 (Python 2.3.5 behaves in the same fashion). In summary, the problem is that a query run as a test from the ZMI of the form select * from <dtml-var udb>.tablename fails on the second batch whereas select * from foo.tablename works fine for all batches. The relevant Zope code distributed with Zope 2.7.6-final had a bug in it which was discussed earlier on the list. The distributed code did not terminate batching properly. The problematic code was in /home/allison/Zope-2.7.6-final/lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/dtml and the fix was to patch the two link expressions to have a missing element, that is, <a href="&dtml-URL;?query_start=&dtml-next-sequence-start-number; \ &query=<dtml-var query url_quote missing="">"> which seemed to resolve the problem. BUT, there is now a second problem. When the query is dynamic, the second batch fails on a key error -- for the example above, it would fail with a > Z SQL Method at /testfolder/batchcheck External Editor > > Help! > Error, exceptions.KeyError: 'udb' SQL used: > > Could not render the query template! message in the ZMI. However, REQUEST has the proper value for the key according to the Error Log: form query "''" query_start '21' other n_ 5 a_ 0 It's pretty clear that the query is being passed as an empty string due to the key error. Presumably the query should be rendered and saved in a persistent manner throughout the batching process. It is not clear to me where this should be done. How to prevent web access to specific folder ?

In my application built on top of Zope, there is a folder scripts/ which contains various python scripts. Some of these scrips invoke SQL methods and accept parameters. The DTML method (outside the scripts/ folder) calls first scripts to set parameters and then scripts which invoke SQL methods passing correct parameters. However, if users can call directly scripts with HTTP request to zope, they can pass any parameters they like. So, for security reasons it is important to deny "direct" access to scripts/ folder. Also, manager should be able to normally manage this folder from ZMI. I know this can be done by restricting View/Access Contents information privileges for folders/scripts to the specific role and then giving DTML methods proxy role. But, is there any other easier methods ? I've tried using access_rule, but the is to allow ZMI to work. At the time when access_rule is called user is not authenticated, so I cannot check if the current user is manager on not. If anybody has any ideas, I'll be gratefull, Vladimir

python: calling DTML-methods without quoting

Hi, I hope this is not a FAQ, but I looked for some info to no avail. If I call a DTML-Method from an other Method (e.g. <dtml-var someDTML>), HTML entities are not converted. However if I call it from python (e.g. <dtml-var "somePath.someDTML"> the entities are html_quoted. This changed with Zope 2.7.x (?). Before that DTMLMethods were not quoted when called from python. I know the easy workaround is to dtml-with to the namespace of the object and call it the zope-way. I have a customer with several large applications which run on an old Zope only for the described reason. The applications relay heavily on calling DTML-Methods to include pieces of HTML, JavaScript, etc. Changing the old code would be an enormous effort. Is there a way to patch zope to show the old behavior? Regards Chris

I do not seem to be able to edit more than one file at a time in an external editor. Is this normal behaviour or am I missing something? regards Garry
