Internationalization

How are my fellow Zopers handling Internationalization, especially text. We have a site that is composed of several hunderd pages. We don't use classes but we have made heavy use of aquistion though. For example we have one back button that is aquired thoughout the site etc etc. Basically if the functionality (or code) is used in more than one place it has been but into a method and aquired. Any thoughts or hints? thanks, DR

Need to use a 'date' data type in sqltest

I need to include a test of a date in a DTML variable referenced in a sqltest tag in ZSQL. From reading documentation and testing, it does not appear that the 'date' data type is supported. Can anyone confirm/infirm this and suggest a solution/workaround? Regards, David H. This is a 'feature' of the product initialization process. Note that I am just documenting buginess here, I should try to fix this when possible. When a Product can't be initialized (a syntax error, a bad import, whatever), sometimes it will revert back to the state at which it wrote a good *.pyc file and continue along its merry way without giving you any indication there is a problem. Two things: Turn on the STUPID_LOG_FILE. Its contents will show you problems during problem initialization. See http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Misc/LOGGING.txt for more info. Scan the mail list archives for STUPID if this howto doesn't suit you (seriously!) When you really, truly want to refresh a product, delete the product from the control_panel and restart. ZOBD caching products?

Ladies and gentlemen, Some time ago I wrote to the list to ask for help on a product reloading issue. I'm still banging my head against it now, so i'm restating the problem again in the hope someone can help: I have a very simple product (and it works!) Any changes I make don't get reflected in the product, so... 1) I change the function name in order to break it on purpose 2) I stop and restart Zope (or use the refresh product) ...and... 3) Zope thinks the product still works ?!?!£?"$"" This behaviour exhibits itself in Zope 2.1.6 *and* 2.2.0. Since no-one else ever seems to have had this problem, I can only assume I am doing something wrong at a "doh!" basic level. Sounds to me like the product is getting cached in the ZOBD. I'm only a poor newbie, so I don't really know where to go from here in order to debug the problem. Any clues???? Thanks, Seb.

Textarea Limits (slightly off topic)

I'm running into a limit to the amount of text that IE 5 will display on the Macintosh. I am wondering if this is true of all browsers and platforms or unique to IE5/Mac. This of course limits the size of documents that can be edited through the manage interface. Now I really wish Pike worked as an editor without it's problems with > signs. OT: for a software patent free Europe

Currently, software and human behaviour (business rules) cannot be patented in Europe. I think, this is good. It allows me to write software (and give it away) without the need to spend some months for patent investigations and money for legal advice. Part of the European Commission now plans to introduce patent practices known from the US in Europe. They include patents for stand-alone software, algorithms and human practices. A group of European software developpers and companies have joint forces to prevent this. We want to file a petition to the European Parliament. PCGI Help!

Hi: Sorry for sending out this one again. I actually send out couple email to ask this question. However, I still couldn't fix this problem. (Thanks Rik Hoekstra for the help) Did anyone got in the similar situation before? My problem is with the IIS + PCGI + ZOPE. The mechine I try to setup is NT 4.0 with sp 5, and IIS 4 It is actually our web site server which is currently hosting couple sites. It has multi-domain, multi-ips ( I don't know if this is the problem) I follow the HowTo for Zope.pcgi, start up with -p zope.pcgi, and bind the extension for .pcgi in IIS to pcgi-wrapper.exe %s which I am sure it work because I test it first on a test mechine. However I got "cannot lock database file" error. I check the proccess and var\z2.pid and var\pcgi.pid. When the browser access zope.pcgi .. IIS bring up pcgi-wrapper.exe which is correct I suppose. However, through the task manager/Proccess, I found out that another python.exe is started up. It seems pcgi-wrapper.exe try to bring up pcgi_publisher.py itself. and var\pcgi.pid got change to a different pid. Then, I follow what I found on the mail archive and set the PCGI_publisher=c:\zope\pcgi\dummy.py where dummy.py is just a empty file with size 0. Test again, I got error (102) cannot connect. I guess the problem is when Zope is init and startup, somehow the PCGI server(is it pcgi_publisher.py?) doesn't startup properly or even crashed. Therefore when pcgi-wrapper.exe try to connect, it found nothing, and therefore it starts its own PCGI server or got a no connection error as above. Althought I have this guess! I have no idea how to find out what's going wrong during Zope start up. I read something about the pcgifile.py so I try python pcgifile.py c:\zope\zope.pcgi and I got module not found I don't know where I can go from this point up. Or any suggestion that may be my guess it totally wrong and I should fix it in another path? Kwan
