Many thanks to both you and Andrew. I should really sit down and write out all the different ways of reffering to variables and learn them properly. I had tried to use something similar to <dtml-let ci=count-id> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('v_allItems', v_allItems + ci )"> </dtml-let> and I thought it hadn't worked. However, just tried again and it does so I am obviously loosing the plot. Many thanks for your help Ian Cottee Nagoya, Japan

Folderish Objects and their contained objects

Hello everyone, I am writing a folderish class (in Python) that gets its objects from a database using SQL. I want to call the object as follows: WEBURL/FolderishClassInstance/ObjectID What needs to be done? The Folderish class should contain something like a getObject class that is automatically called when an ObjectID is passed. The getObject method then executes a SQL statement getting the object from the DB and does an R2O (relational to object) mapping, which is trivial. So what am I asking? Is there such a method already defined, that gets an object from a folderish object? What is its name, so I can redefine it? I found two potential methods called __getitem__ and _getObj in the Zope code. Is it one of them? That let's me ask: How does the URL traversal get objects inside other objects? Right now I am developing that Product for a specific purpose, but I see great potential in generalizing it, so that all types of Zope objects can be saved in a database table. This would be different from the current SQLStorage product though, since it does not save pickle files in the DB, but the actual values with their correct type, which would make it much faster. upgrade from zope-2.1.6 to zope-2.2.0b1

Newbie alert! Frustration right off the bat...

and so it starts... I'm determined to learn zope for my next project and can't even get past the tutorial. Using zope v.2.16 on windows. I get to the part where I create the 1st DTML method (index_html) and zope reports an error: Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: the id index_html is invalid - it is already in use. This is in a virtually empty system. I suspect that the problem is in initializing the tuturial. I suspect further that the tutorial text and graphic figures don't jibe. The beginning of the tutorial says to create the ZAcme folder under my root installation. I take this to mean at the main manage entry point, rather than my literal root directory (as it says further down the page). When I do this, the ZAcme folder shows up in the workspace but the illustrations don't show this. I continue along and end up getting the above error. I also tried manually creating folders in my actual root directory (C:\) and in the zope directory (C:\Program Files\ZAcme) and I get the above error every time. Help! TIA Rob

ZPatterns 0.3.0

Hi Guys, I was trying to setup ZPatterns 0.3.0 and I got up to making the extension DynPersistc. I had run "make -f Makefile.pre.in boot" and then I ran "make" but an error occured saying that ExtensionClass.h couldn't be found. If anyone knows what is wrong I would much appreciate it. The only other thing I can tell you (and I don't know if it means anything) is that it seemed to be looking for ExtensionClass in teh <Zopeinstall>/lib/Components dir and there is no Components dir there, perhaps I need to add something to my Zope install. Selling Enhydra? Could they do this to Zope?

They are basically selling a "boxed" version of Enhydra (a Open Source Java Web Application Development Environment) and support. I guess this fits into the Red Hat / Linux model but would it work for Zope? Good? Bad? BTW: 2.0b1 is great. WebDav works well (although not sure what it gives beyond FTP and the management interface). I have not done any benchmarks but... might. J
