Trinkets

Zopists, I am working a bit more on the wizard thing. I've been trying to find the Trinkets/REQUEST/Form processing in the source and can't see it. 1. Is there a way to access the trinket from the request? ie. <dtml-var "REQUEST.form.trinkets"> 2. If not, does anyone know where that sucker is or what it's called? ZODBCDA and Access 2000

When I first started with Zope I was pulling information out of a temporary mySQL database for experimentation and putting it into a <table>. Everything worked fine for the database fields which had null values <dmtl-var field1 null=" "> I then downloaded ZODBCDA to start pulling off of an Access 2000 database which has the live data I need to display. I ran across a curious bug/feature? in regards to ZODBCDA and Access 2000. When I use the <dtml-var field1 null=" ">, Zope wouldn't recognize null values from Access. I checked and double checked that the field values were actually null in Access. I ended up having to switch my dtml-method to: <dtml-if field1> <td align="center"><dmtl-var field1></td> <dtml-else> <td>&nbps;</td> </dtml-if> instead of the old way. Is this a problem with ZODBCDA, Access, or better yet me? I know Access is not the database I should be using for the data, but one thing at a time. These are some very interesting results. Great job in creating/running these test. When you are finished, can you write a FAQ/paper on your results? Any way to use XSL with Zope?

Hello fellow XML-Zope enthusiasts! I'm working on a project to make technical documentation available over the internet. The documents are in Word format now, but we plan to convert them to XML. I have already converted a few documents and made a XSL stylesheet. I can use this stylesheet to render HTML files on the command line with Xalan, but I'm not limited to this or any other XSL processor. I had a look at XMLDocuments and XMLWidgets, but this is just a different approach, right? I'd like to make use of XSL and have also seen discussions about integrating XSL with Zope.but unfortunately it isn't yet. Does anyone have any experience with this? Tomcat Vrs Zope Round Two (ding, ding)

Ok, so I heard back from a few people yesterday talking about how the test was just serving static content and therefore is not really a "true" test. It is, though, a test of what Zope + Tomcat can do in terms of static performance. To be fair, I decided to have them do a basic "connect" to a database and see what would happen. Zope Machine: RH 6.1, 300 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 8 GB EIDE Drive - Zope. 2.1.4 Tomcat Machine: RH 6.1, 500 MHz, 512 MB RAM, 3 x 9.1 SCSI in RAID - Jakarta Tomcat 3.1 Both with PostGreSQL 6.5.3 installed from RPM. No modifications at all. The .jsp page just tests the database connection. If it can get to the database it returns a string. (I will include the source at the bottom). Ran this about 5 times here is the best. Document Length: 353 bytes Concurrency Level: 25 Time taken for tests: 9.354 seconds Complete requests: 100 Failed requests: 0 Total transferred: 75430 bytes HTML transferred: 35300 bytes Requests per second: 10.69 Transfer rate: 8.06 kb/s received Connnection Times (ms) min avg max Connect: 0 11 63 Processing: 120 2061 2959 Total: 120 2072 3022 I then modified my Zope test page by creating a ZSQL Method that just does a simple select (select name for table where id = '1000') No biggy. I dropped that into the test.html page and made it display the name. Here is what I got after five or so tests. Document Path: /test.html Document Length: 172 bytes Concurrency Level: 25 Time taken for tests: 2.857 seconds Complete requests: 100 Failed requests: 0 Total transferred: 37875 bytes HTML transferred: 17372 bytes Requests per second: 35.00 Transfer rate: 13.26 kb/s received Connnection Times (ms) min avg max Connect: 0 0 2 Processing: 63 627 800 Total: 63 627 802 While I am not being totally blown away by the results I am starting to get the big picture. I was also asked to try it against resin. Which I did last night and send the results. I tried it again this morning and while it would perform well in the first test it would die in the second test and need to be rebooted. Don't know what this is but will keep looking into it. Next? To create a cgi script, in Python to get the same data and run it on Apache. Now that could be interesting! mod_pcgi2 location related problem

Hello! I have solved (at least partially :) the puzzle with location-related problems in Apache. When you create config like this <Location /pcgi/some> and go to URL like /pcgi/some/path, Apache thinks only /pcgi is location, and /some is a part of path; PATH_INFO in this situation will be /some/path instead of /path - and that, of course, leads to error 404. I wrote a code to overcome this Apache strangeness. I need your help to test it. If anyone willing to test - mail me and ask for the new code. It is highly experimental, and couldn't be used on a production server. Be warned! Don't know whether this would fix the problem with <Location /> - I'll do some testing here, but please report your results, too. Oleg. Fix for DateTime.py regarding daylight saving time (was: Z2.log and Date stamps 2nd Call for answers????)

I hacked together a fix to DateTime.py for the problems wrt. daylight saving time. I still have the impression that DateTime.py is to some degree 'broken by design' and don't know how to fix this completely without big changes to the class. Still, the attached patch should fix the problems as described in the "Z2.log and Date stamps" thread and as described in two Collector bug reports (search for "daylight" and DateTime) in a backward compatible manner. To begin with, _localzone or tz is no immutable property during the life of a Zope process (the switch to daylight saving time may happen while the Zope process is running), still DateTime uses _localzone as an immutable class attribute that's calculated only once during when the class is initialized. Furthermore, the calculation of _localzone was broken: _localzone was always set to the non-daylight saving timezone, even if we were currently in daylight saving time. Problems arose when this was mixed with the variables like hour, which were relative to the daylight saving time zone. I stick with _localzone as the non-dst zone and introduce a new, immutable class attribute _localdszone for the dst zone. Now the idea is to decide on runtime if a localtime value is non-dst or dst. I think I found and corrected the most obvious places in the class where this problem arises. I'm quite confident that with the fix, DateTime now will always return a correct date representation. Potential problems remaining to be evaluated are that DateTime *perhaps* still sometimes returns a non-dst localtime even for dates when dst was valid in your local time zone, i.e. a correct but inappropriate result. Still, that's much better than the current incorrect results. Gregor
