calling DTML from DTML doesn't render

I have these objects: lib/py/hello (Python Method) contains: return "Hello, World" lib/dtml/indirect (DTML Method) contains: <dtml-return "lib.py.hello()"> test (DTML Method) contains: <dtml-var "lib.dtml.indirect"> When I view test, it shows: <dtml-return "lib.py.hello()"> I expect it to show: Hello, World! Why is this happening?

I've recently restructured my Zope site in order to take advantage of acquisition by moving page-specific code into other methods while leaving site-wide formatting in standard_html_header and footer. I'm running into a problem, though. I have a menu DTML method which contains page-specific sidebars. Though this menu often changes, it would be great if I could use acquisition to minimize the number of menu methods. However, if I have a folder in which a menu method from a parent is acquired, I can't think of a way to make URLs absolute. Right now I'm doing: <a href="../">Home</a><br> ... But, it's quite obvious what happens in descendants; ../ no longer links to my homepage, and none of the relative links work. So, is there a variable or method which creates an absolute link to the folder in which the current document resides, thus allowing me to use acquisition and avoid modifying menus whenever my structure deepens? So, I could do something like: <a href="<dtml-var folder_url>/articles/">Articles</a><br> and have that code work, no matter how many levels down 'menu' is acquired?

FTP uploading and properties

I had always thought that if you uploaded a DTML Document via FTP in place of an existing one, it would wipe out the document's properties. But when I tried it just now, it didn't. Is it safe to use FTP to upload changes to documents without losing the properties? On a related note, I'm designing a Product representing an article. It will have a "body" attribute/property containing a "large" amount of text, and smaller fields for the title, author, etc. Our writers will want to edit the body with an external editor, but set the other attributes only via the web. Are there any special methods I can put in my Product class to trap FTP PUT/GET requests and pass only the "body" value in and out? The catalog has index for 'summary', because CatalogAware objects expose a 'summary' attribute (a method, actually) which performs as you describe. Unfortunately, DTMLDocument is *not* dervied from CatalogAware, and so has no such method. This gap accounts for other infelicitous (non)interaction between DTMLDocuments and ZCatalogs: DTMLDocuments are not automagically added/removed from the catalog when they are created/deleted, for instance. A workaround is to add a PythonMethod or ExternalMethod named 'summary' as a peer of your Catalog, defined so (assuming an EM): def summary( self, num=200 ): """Return a summary of the string form of the object.""" text=str( self ) n=min(num, len(text)) return text[:n] Note that the "string form" of a DTML document is the unrendered source, which may not be very useful to look at -- most will start off with '<dtml-var standard_html_header>...' and go downhill from there. You can, of course, tweak the summary code to return any property, or even a concatenated set of properties (like PrincipiaSearchSource does). CVS PTK and IOError?

Hello. I just checked out the current version of the PTK base and Demo product from CVS. I copied the files as stated in the readme.txt, and my products appear ok (not broken). When I invoke the Wizard (Portal) and fill in the information, after submitting the final page (Finish) I get a Zope IOError. Any idea what could cause this? Cya Mario

zope fastcgi protocol error

thilo, a few months ago you posted http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2000-February/003202.html about an intermittent fastcgi protocol error. I'm just setting up zope with fastcgi and i am experiencing the same problem. i restarted zope, and the problem went away. my socket is located in /tmp/fcgi/, so i'm wondering if it needs to be moved out of the temp directory or ??? What did you do to fix this problem? ---scott

PTK: //?

Some items within a PTK-generated Portal carry a // at the beginning of their path (e.g., in catalogued objects). This results in errors when trying to rename or delete them. As the Portal defines its own user interface classes, overriding the general editing/managing classes (e.g., in PortalFolder.py), I wonder if You suffer from similar errors or if there is something wrong with the/my setup.
