Yes I did dump the REQUEST var , I see the content_type and content_lenght set but no content . There is nothing in the forms section whihc is correct as the data coming from the browser is via a post method with no url encoded form variables. I wonder if there is a way to access the actual data stream as I dont think the REQUEST var was designed to handle this situation for a POST request :-( thanks sathya > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: linuxcraft(a)scorpio.redspice.com > > [mailto:linuxcraft@scorpio.redspice.com]On Behalf Of > > linuxcraft(a)redspice.com > > Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2000 12:19 PM > > To: anser > > Cc: zope(a)zope.org > > Subject: Re: MIME types and zope > > > > > > > > > > Sathya <linuxcraft(a)redspice.com> wrote: > > > > I am trying to handle a vendor specific mime type within zope > > > > basically it is the adobe forms plugin whihc encodes > > > > data in application/vnd.fdf type. > > > > It is basically an ascii stream set in a particular format > > > > question is how do I access this data coming from the browser > > > > the request variable does not contain information about this. > > > > > > There is a brand new HowTo about this at Zope.org: > > > > > > http://www.zope.org/Members/anser/howto_dtml_mimetype > > Thanks, but what I need is to access this stream coming from a browser > > ie the actual stream whoose total length is set by the HTTP variable > > CONTENT_LENGTH the stream does not come in as cgi style url > > encoded as it would in case of a HTML form. If I have a folder, 1, with a folder within it, 2, and within folder 2, there is a document called 2-a; Why is it that only 2-a's and 2's bobobase_modification_time gets updated, and not 1's? Regards, Morten W. Petersen

WorldPilot on NT4- Storage.LocalStorage problems
by dillera＠isc.upenn.edu 13 Apr '00

hello- I'm trying to get WP 1.0.4 working on NT4. I've fixed a minor problem where it couldn't load Storage.LocalStorage, (I changed it just to LocalStorage) but now this has opened a bigger can of worms. In LocalStorage.py (a WorldPilot module) it seems to be setting the ROOT PATH wrong. It looks like its trying to load all the graphics for the site, which are located in Products/WorldPilot/Storage. its calling lib\python\App\Imagefile.py and that seems to think the root path is: C:\\WINNTSVR\\system32 where it should be: C:\\Program Files\\zope\\lib\\python\\Products\\WorldPilot I can't see where this ROOT PATH is being set in LocalStorage or Imagefile. And WorldPiloteers out there lend a hand? thanks, andy diller Traceback: ------------- WorldPilot Import Traceback Traceback (innermost last): File "C:\PROGRA~1\zope\lib\python\OFS\Application.py", line 387, in import_products product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "C:\PROGRA~1\zope\lib\python\Products\WorldPilot\__init__.py", line 94, in ? import WorldPilot File "C:\PROGRA~1\zope\lib\python\Products\WorldPilot\WorldPilot.py", line 1213, in ? import LocalStorage File "c:\Program Files\zope\lib\python\Products\WorldPilot\Storage\LocalStorage.py", line 608, in ? class WorldPilotMonolithicFolderObject( File "c:\Program Files\zope\lib\python\Products\WorldPilot\Storage\LocalStorage.py", line 613, in WorldPilotMonolithicFolderObject wpnavdown=ImageFile('wpnavdown.gif',globals()) File "C:\PROGRA~1\zope\lib\python\App\ImageFile.py", line 110, in __init__ file=open(path, 'rb') IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\WINNTSVR\\system32\\LocalStorage/wpnavdown.gif'

RE: [Zope] info: zope complete hanging
by Marcus Collins 13 Apr '00

Hi, Thanks for the report! It might prove helpful to know the following: 1. Does Zope hang when you access the management interface using http://path/to/zope/manage_main or ftp? 2. Does Zope hang if you run in single threaded mode (z2.py -t 1)? 3. Are you using the default NUMBER_OF_THREADS (4)? 4. Are you using any database adaptors and, if so, which versions? 5. Is the hanging more or less frequent in Zope 2.1.6 than in 2.1.4? 6. What method of access (HTTP/PCGI/FCGI) do you use for the management interface? Is this the same protocol you use for the rest of the site? 7. Are you using a binary distribution of Zope, or have you compiled from source? Ditto for python. 8. Can you cause Zope to hang by refreshing the page a number of times in quick succession, or by stopping the request and then reloading? You mentioned that the hanging occurs when an error occurs. Are you referring to a Zope error, or an error which is logged or displayed on the console? A traceback or listing of the error might prove useful. Some of these might just be shots in the dark, but the more information we can gather, the better! Some also might not be practical for you to try out (like running Zope single-threaded, if this is a production server). Tres Seaver suggested this morning that we move discussions like this to a purpose-built Wiki at zope.org, but as that's now, I suggest we keep the discussion going on the list until the Wiki can be used. hth, and thanks! -- Marcus > -----Original Message----- > From: Jerome Alet [mailto:alet@unice.fr] > Sent: 13 April 2000 14:45 > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] info: zope complete hanging > > Hi, > > I've noticed something here, but it doesn't seem thread > related since all zope hangs. > > from time to time (seems to be random), when using the management > interface, zope completely hangs when using IE5 under NT4SP5. > With IE4 on the same machine (before the update) or Netscape 4.72 > under Linux (same machine in dual boot) there's no problem at all. > It seems (not sure) the hang comes when an error occurs, and error > often occur when you begin with zope... > > when it hangs I can't connect to zope from any workstation here, > even trying to access a different page, outside the management > interface. > > Tested with 2.1.4 and 2.1.6 under SparcLinux (RedHat 4.2, > kernel 2.0.35, libc-5.3.12, python 1.5.2), and we don't suffer seem > to suffer from memory leaks. > > hope this helps to solve the problems. > > Jerome ALET - alet(a)unice.fr - http://cortex.unice.fr/~jerome > Faculte de Medecine de Nice - http://noe.unice.fr - Tel: 04 > 93 37 76 30 > 28 Avenue de Valombrose - 06107 NICE Cedex 2 - FRANCE > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** > (Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) >

Re: [Zope] Sending results of query to Excel
by Richard Moon 13 Apr '00

More results on this research - its not really Zope related but I'm posting these because I was asked by some people to do so. It seems that if you either set the MIME type to something which the browser recgnises as Excel for example <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('ContentType','application/vnd.ms-excel')"> _OR_ call the DTML method wich produces the output something .xls then - 1) IE 4 and 5 (on PC) will open the data in an Excel spreadsheet within the viewer (presumably using OLE). However the ability to use this is severly limited, there's no Excel toolbars or menus available.(Not ideal) I haven't found any way to turn this behaviour off. 2) Netscape, provided you have the MIME-type entered in the Help Apps list will give you the option to save it as a .XLS file or will open Excel with the downloaded data. (This is perfect). On a Mac you can preconfigure Netscape's behaviour to either save the file (and it will save it as an Excel file), or open Excel with the data. 3) The data will be formatted correctly within the spreadsheet provided you use tab as the separator. You can't enter tabs via the managament interface so you have to edit the DTML method in an external editor and FTP or copy/paste it in. The other way to do it, which works better with IE4 and IE5 is to name the dtml method something.csv and set the MIME type to something the browser doesn;t recognise such as 'application/x-csv''. In this case, on PC the file will download to disk as a .csv file which Excel will happily open. A Mac won't make any sense of the .csv extension so you'll have to open the file within Excel. If you do it this way you must replace the tabs field separators with commas and it's best to single-quote all data to 'escape' embedded commas. In every case I'm still getting blank lines at the top of the spreadsheet. So there you have it - On 4/11/00, Richard Moon <richard.moon(a)nec.ac.uk> wrote: >Results of the experiments so far (thanks for all the help) > >If you set the RESPONSE variable as follows (which I suspect sets >a mime type whcih my browser doesn't recognise) then IE 5 will download >the file for you. Unfortunately I haven't been able to install win2K yet to see how it worked - I know about one further tweak that a little microsoft birdie told me I could use to enable editing of "unprocessed" source (i.e. double click on a DTML method from a web folder and have it open unrendered in your chosen text editor or something). It shouldn't be hard to add, I just need to get the time and find a box that I care little enough about to put w2K on it... :) Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

(sorry about the delay - backlog of email since going on honeymoon, just now getting on top of it) (cc'd to zope(a)zope.org for other opinions) It's deliberate - the idea of the session stuff was that they'd be transient only. If it's considered a useful feature, I could expose an 'expiry' time in the management interface. A caveat, tho - last time I looked at this, browser support for cookie expiry was a bit flaky. >>> Robert Segall wrote > Hi Anthony > > I was looking at SQLSession and I found a small problem you may want to > fix: Netscape seems to have problems with cookies without an expiry date > (they are accepted temporarily, but not stored in the cookies database). > > My temporary fix was to set an expiry time of ten years into the future, > but this may not fit everyone's needs. > > Just some food for thought... -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

info: zope complete hanging
by Jerome Alet 13 Apr '00

Hi, I've noticed something here, but it doesn't seem thread related since all zope hangs. from time to time (seems to be random), when using the management interface, zope completely hangs when using IE5 under NT4SP5. With IE4 on the same machine (before the update) or Netscape 4.72 under Linux (same machine in dual boot) there's no problem at all. It seems (not sure) the hang comes when an error occurs, and error often occur when you begin with zope... when it hangs I can't connect to zope from any workstation here, even trying to access a different page, outside the management interface. Tested with 2.1.4 and 2.1.6 under SparcLinux (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.35, libc-5.3.12, python 1.5.2), and we don't suffer seem to suffer from memory leaks. hope this helps to solve the problems. >Hi there, >I don't know if this has ever asked before... >I got Zcatalog on my Zope site and it runs beutifully >EXCEPT that it will only find words that are in English >-and 80% of my site is in Greek ! The finding part seems to imply you use the Catalog. If so, that is right, the Catalog only accepts standard ascii (as used for English). And in general, python (the language Zope works with) does not handle unicode. All this will probably change in the (not too far) future, but for now, there is not much to be done about it I'm afraid. >Is there a fix ?
