zclass and SQL (generating default methods ala zdiscussion)

Tweaking into the traverse machinery actually is not too hard, you can look at the BaseRequest.py file and HTTPRequest.py files. Pay attention particularly to the assignment of the _auth variable. I have played with switching _auth on the fly and it worked. :) But of course I won't recommend everyone to modify their Zope codes just like that. Evan's argument was: manual setting may not be compatible with future releases of Zope, so it's better to make things into a product. Which I agree. But as it turned out, the SiteAcess product itself actually broke with the new release of Zope. :) So even with products one still has to be careful with Zope release changes. For higher security sites, the manual setting is not good enough, since people that know the exact location of DTML/ZSQL methods can still call them up directly. (Same as with images, but images usually are not a high security concern.) The thing to do seems to be: whenever there is a HTTPRequest transaction, tweak the _auth variable in the constructor of HTTPRequest object (or even earlier in the environmental variables!) to your generic user. This will make all web objects secure. I still haven't looked into the "clean" flag and the "sane_enviroment()" of HTTPRequest.py. sql query

I have a link that when the user clicks on it queries that database using a method. The database is postgres. what is want is beside the link in parenthesis displaying how many rows are in that table. For example: Employees (45) Companies (46) I think you would use a counter for this right ?? How would i approach this ? The number should be dynamic so that as it increase the number will increase automatically. Thanks

Threads in Python

For those who are interestd in threads in Python, I have found the following posting in comp.lang.python. What's the difference between <dtml-var and <!--#var

Reading the documentation for Zope had me believing that <dtml-var and  I assumed that the last is the server side include format (although you could not tell by the syntax of the preceding documentation!) Perhaps this document could be fixed a bit for us newbies?

IssueTrackerProduct-0.4.8a

Glad to say I've managed to organise my IssueTracker product a bit. Many new features and bug fixes have only been in CVS and even the CVS has been a bit messy with a faulty version lying there for weeks. Now I've zipped a recent version for your pleasure. object ids with spaces in ZCatalog

I am using a number of ZCatalogs in virtual hosts, and using the modification outlined by Evan Simpson (http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/SiteAccess/patch) which appears to be working fine. Problems have appeared with objects in the ZCatalog with spaces in them however. When uncataloging, the id is urllib.quoted, but the stored object paths are not, so they don't match. I made a quick mod to catalog_object in ZCatalog.py so that it catalogs a urllib.quoted version of the path: self._v_total = (self._v_total + self._catalog.catalogObject(obj, urllib.quote(uid), self.threshold)) It appears to work, but what is the best way of doing this?
