This is not specific to zope-mozilla so copying to the zope list. Please continue this thread only on the zope list. Amos' article on xml.com about xml-rpc with Zope is an excellent introduction for beginners: http://www.xml.com/pub/2000/01/xmlrpc/index.html About your problem: sorry I don't know what's going wrong there. I urge you to try the examples in the above article. HTH, Shalabh Qingjuan Guan wrote: > Hi all, > I am a starter for the Zope stuff. zclass and SQL (generating default methods ala zdiscussion)

hi again seems my previous mail may not be clear enough. any how, i got a zclass with a few default ZSQL methods. i want to copy the default SQL Methods to the instance, but can't do it right now. i tried to do as what ZDiscussion did, but can't really proceed. this is my code snippets ---(id = generatemethod_dtml)-- <dtml-var manage_tabs> <dtml-if Regenerate> <dtml-in "defaultSQL.objectItems('Z SQL Method')"> <dtml-try> <dtml-call "manage_delObjects(ids=[_['sequence-item']])"> <dtml-except> </dtml-try> <dtml-call "manage_addProduct['ZSQLMethods'].manage_addZSQLMethod( this(), id, title=_.getattr(defaultSQL, _['sequence-item']).title, connection_id=_.getattr(defaultSQL, _['sequence-item']).connection_id, arguments='_.getattr(defaultSQL, _['sequence-item']).arguments, template=_.getattr(defaultSQL, _['sequence-item']).template)"> <br> </dtml-in> Default methods regenerated.<br> <dtml-var ZopeTime> <hr> </dtml-if> <form> To restore this topic's methods to the default ones, click here: <input type="submit" value="Regenerate" name="Regenerate"> </form> --end----- defaultSQL is a folder containing all default ZSQL methods. this is the traceback: what am i missing here? it looks like i passed the arguments wrongly. tia for pointers and help. -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

You can just keep > adding below the previous text ... My point is that wiki works best as a "group mind" tool, rather than a "threaded discussion" tool. While it is possible to do "threaded discussion" on a wiki page, via convention, the resulting page has less WikiNature than one in which the participants go back and revise the page. See:: http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?ThreadMode http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiNature http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?ThreadModeConsideredHarmful on the "mother-of-all-wikis" for more on this. To quote Ward Cunningham:: There are many places on the net better than here to hold a conversation. And there are many better ways to publish a web page too. Wiki is different. As the founder of wiki I thank those who struggle to make its difference an advantage. The discussions surrounding a particular bug in an issue tracking system *need* to be linear / historical, in order to allow for correlation with changes to the source. Squishdot, ZDiscussions, or Tracker all provide this functionality, and support it structurally, rather than via convention. Manual AUTHENTICATED_USER (Re: [Zope] GUF: Generic User Folder) Folder)

--- In zope(a)egroups.com, chas <panda@s...> wrote: >Sorry to bother you but why should it be best done at the product level if >all the product does is what can be done >in one line below ? I find this manual setting very useful. For a low-security site, manual setting should still be fine. Tweaking into the traverse machinery actually is not too hard, you can look at the BaseRequest.py file and HTTPRequest.py files. Pay attention particularly to the assignment of the _auth variable. I have played with switching _auth on the fly and it worked. :) But of course I won't recommend everyone to modify their Zope codes just like that. Evan's argument was: manual setting may not be compatible with future releases of Zope, so it's better to make things into a product. Which I agree. But as it turned out, the SiteAcess product itself actually broke with the new release of Zope. :) So even with products one still has to be careful with Zope release changes. For higher security sites, the manual setting is not good enough, since people that know the exact location of DTML/ZSQL methods can still call them up directly. (Same as with images, but images usually are not a high security concern.) The thing to do seems to be: whenever there is a HTTPRequest transaction, tweak the _auth variable in the constructor of HTTPRequest object (or even earlier in the environmental variables!) to your generic user. This will make all web objects secure. I still haven't looked into the "clean" flag and the "sane_enviroment()" of HTTPRequest.py. Anyway, if I have time I'll make a product... it's just not high on my priority of things. :) regards, Hung Jung ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I think that the Zope.org how-tos (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To) do a pretty good job of this. It's true that they need better organization and better author-feedback facilities, but on the whole I think they are pretty useful. Thanks for your ideas. We know that Zope needs better documentation. And we *are* trying to make Zope documentation better. The database is postgres. what is want is beside the link in parenthesis displaying how many rows are in that table. Threads in Python
by Hung Jung Lu 11 Apr '00

11 Apr '00

For those who are interestd in threads in Python, I have found the following posting in comp.lang.python. Basically, Python has atomic blocks of 10 byte-code instructions that get a CPU time slice. regards, Hung Jung =================================================================== Subject: Re: threads Date: 04/13/1999 Author: Gordon McMillan <gmcm(a)hypernet.com> Eric Lee Green wonders about Python threads: > My question is this: How "atomic" are basic Python variable > operations? This exact question was asked not long ago. My reply, and Guido's clarifications follow: --------------------------------------------------------------------- Gordon McMillan replies: >In general, Python will switch between threads every N (10, unless >you've rebuilt with another constant) byte code instructions. Any >byte-code instruction is therefore atomic. > > > For examples: > > > Can I safely create/update a global variable from a thread or do I > > risk breaking any dictionary implementation stuff (pointers/hash > > table slots etc)? Otherwise we wouldn't need the queue module .. > > or is this just a hangover from earlier days?] > >Lists are trickier. Individual operations are atomic, but most of >the time, doing something with a list takes more than one op. You're >normally dealing with the list and an index, so you're better off >protecting the list. That is, you can "safely" append, but even that >may screw up someone else who is iterating. Some examples will clarify also. These are atomic (L, L1, L2 are lists, D, D1, D2 are dicts, x, y are objects, i, j are ints): L.append(x) L1.extend(L2) L1[i:j] = L2 x = y x.field = y D[x] = y D1.update(D2) These aren't: i = i+1 L.append(L[-1]) L[i] = L[j] D[x] = D[x] + 1 Note: operations that replace other objects may invoke those other objects' __del__ method when their reference count reaches zero, and that can affect things. This is especially true for the mass updates to dictionaries and lists. --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/) - Gordon ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

What's the difference between <dtml-var and <!--#var
by Brian.Burton＠nlynx.com 11 Apr '00

Reading the documentation for Zope had me believing that <dtml-var and I assumed that the last is the server side include format (although you could not tell by the syntax of the preceding documentation!) Perhaps this document could be fixed a bit for us newbies?

IssueTrackerProduct-0.4.8a
by Peter Bengtsson 11 Apr '00

11 Apr '00

Glad to say I've managed to organise my IssueTracker product a bit. Many new features and bug fixes have only been in CVS and even the CVS has been a bit messy with a faulty version lying there for weeks. Now I've zipped a recent version for your pleasure. Check it out on http://www.zope.org/Members/peterbe/IssueTrackerProduct I still urge people to use the CVS version on SourceForge. Can you please submit any bugs to my SourceForge page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/issuetracker/ Peter NOTE!! When installing the latest version, make sure to Completely Re-deploy Standards so that you get the latest Send2Friends_script object. (sorry if this became cross posted. I thought the zope-announce list was the "same" as the zope list)
