Zope Performance with Multiple Mount Points

We've recently moved to a Zope configuration with approximately 30 separate databases mounted at mount points within a main database. Previously, we ran a single database which was approaching 300GB in size. We chose to split the database to reduce Data.fs size. We now run 30 separate ZEO Servers (on a single machine). However, after switching to this configuration we've noticed some performance issues. Initially, after a client is restarted and builds out it's caches the site runs very quickly. However as the memory usage grows the performance degrades. If the client gets into swap the client practically dies. We had 10,000 object caches on each of the databases with 2 threads on the client. 30 x 10,000 x 2 = 600,000 objects in memory. We've since reduced the cache sizes to 1,000 or 30 x 1,000 x 2 = 60,000 objects. This seemed to extend the life of a client between restarts. Generally, our client machines will hover around 97%-99% memory usage and 90%-100% CPU (on a 2 CPU machine). We still experience periodic performance problems and are looking for any input that might help us address them. Zope 2.8.4 - ZEO ClientStorage cache problem

Hi! I have a problem with my instances of Zope 2.8.4: recently they started to run slowly. Restarting doesn't help much. After observing Zope threads with DeadlockDebugger we found that very often threads are stuck while trying to access to ZEO cache file. We have ZEO server and 2 ZEO clients. Each client has 10 threads. Example output from DeadlockDebugger (attached at the end of this message) shows that a lot of threads is executing self._lock.release() in loadEx function. Attached dump is from ZEO Client instance. I wonder how it is possible that so much threads in this dump are releasing lock in the same time? Shouldn't they stay on acquire? We did more dumps from DeadlockDebugger. Almost every time dump shows that there are some threads that are doing something in loadEx, like: (...) choices for replacing DTML

Hello, At work, we have a large Zope 2 app which uses DTML templates. At this point we're interested considering alternatives such as chameleon.ZPT, Cheetah, Mako, etc. Are there any good articles or earlier discussion threads comparing the advantages of ZPT with other Python templating solutions? It seems that ZPT has been the default choice for the Zope community, but is that still the case? Thanks!

Problems with i18n in Zope-2.12

Hi :-) I'm trying do develop a Zope-2.12 based application and I'm having problems with internationalizing it... :-/ The *.po files are OK it seems, as translating in ZPTs with i18n:translate works fine but I cannot get the translations to work in python code. How should that be done? I'm only just learning development on Zope-2.12, but I have some experience with Zope-2.10 and Plone-3 I've tried 2 approaches: 1. zope.i18nmessageid.MessageFactory, like this: from zope.i18nmessageid import MessageFactory _ = MessageFactory('MyDomain') my_str = _(u'my_label', default=u'Some text') This doesn't translate at all. my_str has 'my_label' value even though there is a default value. 2. zope.i18n.translate, like this from zope.i18n import translate translate(u'my_label', 'MyDomain', default=u'Some text') This only translates the msgid to English and I want it to translate to Polish (I've tried in Polish version of Firefox, Konqueror and Arora). What am I doing wrong? In the past I have used 1. in Plone-3 and it worked, so what has changed? Or maybe I'm missing some package? Also if someone could point me to some good resources about i18n, that would be great. I would be very grateful for any help or pointers. Best regards, MaciekZ

ZCA / five / zcml overrides issue...

Hi there I probably missed some point about how this Component Architecture / ZCML config stuff is supposed to work with zope 2.10+ (actually Zope 2.10.5), ,so any hint or pointer welcome... Here's my problem: I use a third-part product (ContentMirror) that defines some interfaces and their implementations, and register the adapters in it's configure.zcml. It also defines a couple zcml directives, with actions that call component.getMultiAdapter to retrieve the implementation for these interfaces. I'd like to provide my own implementation for one of these interfaces. So I wrote the implementation, added an <include> of the ContentMirror package in my own configure.zcml, and an overrides.zcml with the registration directive for my own implementation: <configure xmlns="http://namespaces.zope.org/zope">  <adapter for="ore.contentmirror.interfaces.IMirrored ore.contentmirror.interfaces.ISchemaTransformer" provides="ore.contentmirror.interfaces.IPeerFactory" factory=".peer.ManagedSchemaPeerFactory" /> </configure> Bad luck, the whole thing then crashes when ContentMirror's own zcml directive are executed - looks like none of the adapter are effectively registred by that time (it of course worked just fine - but with the original IPeerfactory implementation - before I added this override). problem with ++resource++ on zope 2.9

I have a product that is working fine on zope 2.12 but on 2.9 I can't get it to work. my configure.zcml is <configure xmlns="http://namespaces.zope.org/zope" xmlns:browser="http://namespaces.zope.org/browser" > <browser:resourceDirectory name="EditArea" directory="editarea_0_8_2/edit_area" /> </configure> On 2.12 myserver/++resource++EditArea/somefile.js returns the file just fine but on 2.9 I just get a NotFound error. The product is sitting in the Products dir of my instance and I know it is getting loaded on 2.9 because the product is showing up in the control panel and its __init__.py is getting run. Any ideas on how to make this work on 2.9? Mostly this is just for transition stuff but it would be very nice to get it to work.

Problem Building 2.10.x

Hi; I'm trying to build 2.10.x on a CentOS 5.4 server. I get the error that I need to upgrade my Python from 2.4.3 to (I believe) 2.4.6. The problem is that I really can't do that using rpms unless I roll my own. Before doing that I wanted to consult you all and ask your advice. TIA, Susan PS Another option would be to build this on my Mac, but it doesn't look like Zope supports that platform.
