hacking zdiscussion w RDB backend

hi all, i'm thinking of hacking zdiscussion to use rdb as the backend instead of zodb. but before i start anything, i'd like input from you learned zopistas. me:- i'm not a REAL programmer. just a hobbyist. some of my concerns -will a level 2 da be sufficient for high write site? i'm thinking of using postgres -if i were to retain what zdiscssion has, willl it suffice to have just one table? i would like to tie this to AUTHENTICATED_USER. so i want to use user db as the authenticating agent. is it advisable to just put the forum table in the user db database? -how would you guys do the tree from sql? -what other improvement can be included? what pitfalls to avoid? -anybody done this(zdiscussion/confera with sql backend) yet? this is just a start. i'm not sure whether i'll succeed. but i'll die trying :) thanks. -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

The component that does this is called the Splitter, and it is currently written in C. In the CVS there is a new mechanism for abstracting out language dependent features, like splitting, into various Vocabulary objects. I want to make it as trivial as possible for an average programmer to create Vocabulary objects for their language of choice. Right now there are some prototypes doing Japanese, and I and the guys at Digital Garage have done some research on the similar Chinese problem. I am contemplating checking in Brian Hooper's ExtensionClass patch to the Splitter, so that the splitter can be subclasses in python. While more useful, I don't think this will gain much; the Splitter is very english centric and not very extensible (to solve, for example, the japanese problem) and subclassers would need to re-implement most of it in python anyway, so there is no big win. I think that the existing C splitter should be internationalized. Problems with Photo product

I try to convert images to photos (Photo product). How to emulate browser back button

I feel there must be a way to emulate the browser 'back' button in Zope. Can anyone tell me if this is possible please ? The reason is that I have a form, with input fields like input name="address1" width=30 value="&dtml.missing-address1;"> Input from the form is validated in the dtml-method which receives the input from the form. So if a particular field is invalid I can tell the user to use their back button to return to the form. Using the &dtml.missing- means that other data already entered is re-displayed to the user. This is excellent stuff. However, rather than telling the user to press the back button I want to put an anchor on the screen which says continue - something along the lines of <a href="<dtml-var HTTP_REFERER>">Continue</a> This works, in the sense that it returns to the form, but all the form variables are lost. I've checked the REQUEST variable and they are just not there any more - I guess because the form cannot tell it is being returned to. I just know I'm missing something obvious. The branches eventually die out, but before the trunk gets a newer version, the users can try the patched versions from the branches. Z PyGreSQL problems with a python product

I'm working on a python product (under 2.1.4) that calls a ZSQL method when it's added, to store most of it's properties in a database using a ZPyGreSQL connection. RE: GUF works for zope2.1.6

Hi Phil and Tony I have got GUF 1.2.0 working with zope 2.1.6 using Postgresql as the sql server. Until I got the debug trace out, I couldn't figure out what is happening. My 2 cents worth... 1. Uncomment the python code line to generate debug information, restart zope. 2. Remove the example codes (including jorge,etc - couldn't get that working either). 3. Add in your own user and group info in your sql. 4. Insert 'Manager' in group table and map one user to it. [test it out first with this user] 5. Check the management screen in GUF Folder - userlist, etc - ensure it is getting correct info from sql. 6. Flush the cache in your GUF Folder before testing it as per instruction. 7. On the browser end, start a new browser to test a new user, otherwise your superuser will always suceed. 8. Use the debug info from the zope terminal to guide you in your specific setup. 9. Once that is working, remove the Manager role - defeats reason for GUF. 10. Insert local roles for better security with the debug trace to help you set it up. 11. Two important privileges - access contents information and view must be checked to view a zope resource. Hope this helps. multiple inserts and MySQLDA

Hi Zopiis: How i can build a DTML method for making multiple inserts in MySQL db. For example, inserting a exames scores for a class with 20 students. My problem isn't make the sql query, but call the query for each pair (student_id, score). I would like fetched the student_id and the student name from the db. How i can do it? I find in this newsgroup some posts about the Product MySQLDA1.4. I have some queries for select integers and y d'ont have the related problems. The weird part here is that the python method had just created the directory in question and the UID on that file is "nobody". So even though the process is the owner of the file it still does not have permission to change the GID. Is there a way to specify what group Zope/Python is running under. What kinds of problems would be associated with changing the group to something other that root?
