News ZClass Question
by Olivier Deckmyn 10 Mar '00

Hi all ! I try to learn Zope... I have a very simple ZClass myClass. This Class has few properties (let's say title:string, description:text). I would like this class to have 2 methods that can render its instances simply. Let's say DTML Methods : render1 render2 I've made thoose two methods in my Class : ex : render1 : Title : <dtml-var title> Description : <dtml-var description fmt="structured-text" newline_to_br> and render2 : Title : <dtml-var title> Description : <dtml-var description fmt="structured-text" newline_to_br> (the examples are stupid !) But when I call the methods from the index_html of my content folder like : <dtml-var "myClass1.render1"> or <dtml-var "myClass1.render1()"> or <dtml-call "myClass1.render1(myClass1)"> or <dtml-call "myClass1.render1(_.None)"> None of theese shows me the infos :((((( Sometimes, i have AttributeError, sometimes Authorisation PB :( Please help !

how to tell if displayed in a frame
by Andy Heath 10 Mar '00

I have a page that sometimes gets displayed in a frame and sometimes in the main window. I want it to be display differently (with a header) when its not in a frame. Is there a way I can do this? I don't suppose the name of the target frame gets passed to the browser does it? Presumably the only way to do this would be to do it in client-side code and fecth the header if appropriate and filter it to make it what is needed. Or is it? Can you forbid a piece of software from being reviewed?
by Jerry Spicklemire 10 Mar '00

You can set any terms you like in your use license. Whether they are enforcable in a civil court is a separate question. For example, all through the '80s Oracle Corp. had a restriction from including Oracle product in any product comparison, such as benchmarking. Sometime in the early '90s Oracle Corp. lifted that restriction. It may have something to do with the fact that Oracle was finally running fast enough to look good next to Informix, et. al. Microsoft picked up on this mode and had similar restrictions inserted into SQL Server licenses. I didn't know about that part of Microsoft's license until I heard Larry Ellison talking on a radio interview, blasting Uncle Bill for this dispicable practise!

Re: [Zope] Zope Stability Question

I set up a small Engineering Change Request system w/ zope and PostgreSQL 6 months ago. It has been running flawlessly [1] ever since. Machine uptimes are in the mid-2 digits (i.e. about every 2 months we have to rearrange things in the lab). Note this is a very low load application. As for perl/python stability, you could go back and see how often new releases come out and use that as an argument. -- cary [1] Well, except for my own bugs.

Zope + Coda = Client Side Zope?
by Jack Ungerleider 10 Mar '00

10 Mar '00

Some of the dsicussions in the Client Side Zope thread got me to thinking about an article I read in Linux Journal sometime ago on the Coda file system. As luck would have I can't seem to find that issue. Most of the information contained in that article (now over a year old) can be found in updated form at http://www.coda.cs.cmu.edu/ . For those who've not heard of coda its a distributed filesystem that supports a variety of the features, including disconnected operation and replication among multiple servers, that were mentioned in the previous thread. I will admit to knowing only the very surface information about coda and throw this to the list for anyone who has actually used it. Also do any of the DC folks think that a data store centered around a coda type fs would be doable? I've been intrigued by coda since I first read the article this may be the reason to explore further. Any other thoughts on this? -- Jack Ungerleider The Ungerleider Group Creative Solutions for Cooperative Computing jack(a)jacku.com www.jacku.com

This must be the most innocent message in a long time. :) BookS on Zope? Good titleS? Get THEM? Oh boy, oh boy. There is ZERO book on Zope. But DC people neither confirms nor denies book deals, this is what I last heard. All what I need to know in Zope I learned it from the net, just like everyone else. :) The myriads of loose docs plus the mailing list does the job. Poorly, but it does the job. A good Python book is a must, though, when you want to get into more advanced features of Zope. O'Reilly's "Learning Python" by Mark Lutz and David Ascher is a good bet, well... maybe the only bet. :) ISBN 1-56592-464-9 Hung Jung ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Searching in textfiles
by Bart Holthuijsen 10 Mar '00

Hi all! I'm quite new at this whole Zope thing, so I'm probably overlooking something quite trivial. Here's the deal: I've uploaded some text files into a folder called "Taglines" there are some 30 files in all. Now for the problem: How do I search the contents of the files? I made a ZCatalog and I know I have to make an index on "something" but I can't find what that something is. Can this be done? And if so: How? greetings, Bart Holthuijsen. Yes indeed, it works better this way. But then, I have 2 http servers running on the same box.
