importFromURL not working?
by Timothy Wilson 07 Jan '00

07 Jan '00

Hi everyone, I feel like I'm spamming the list, but I'm just about ready to roll out my brand-new, shiny, Zopified Web site for my school. A couple students and I have been working hard, and this is the last thing on our "To-Do" list before saving our version and sitting back to enjoy the "oohs" and "ahhs" that will undoubtedly come. :-) I'm using Edd's SiteSummary product to import news to our site. So far, so good. It seems to work like a champ. I've created a shellscript to update the news periodically via cron. The script looks like: #!/bin/sh lynx -source http://localhost/headlines/freshmeat.net/importFromURL?url=\ http://freshmeat.net/backend/fm.rdf lynx -source http://localhost/headlines/xmlhack.com/importFromURL?url=\ http://xmlhack.com/rss.php lynx -source http://localhost/headlines/Zope.org/importFromURL?url=\ http://www.zope.org/SiteIndex/news.rss Now I'm trying to get some news from Moreover.com, but the import fails. I'm wondering if it has to do with the filename of the XML source (I'm getting desparate). Does anyone know of a reason that importFromURL would choke on a URL like http://www.moreover.com/cgi-local/page?index_environment+rss I know the file itself isn't the problem because I saved it to a local disk with a different name and it imported fine. Zope for a article publication site
by Eric BARROCA 07 Jan '00

07 Jan '00

Hello, I'm working on a project for a client : I must build a big website for article publication. It's mean that each journalist who have an account can published his paper on the site, filling a form. Several "design" for the article must be supported and my client want to be able to add easily other article template. That's only a little description of the project, but it's enough to have an idea, I think. First, I though do that with PHP3+PostgreSQL, but I discovered Zope (in linuxweekly's paper) and I think that Zope is more adapted for my needs. I'm testing zope since about 2 weeks, and I begin to understand it pretty well, but I've some questions that I can't understand alone and that don't appear in the doc (I've found something in the ML's archive, but not exactly what I'm looking for) : What way must I choose for designing/storing the templates and the articles ? For storing the article, I don't know what is the best : a ZClasse "article" + ZODB or records in PostgreSQL, knowing that the articles are classed into categories. For the article template, I've found a solution, I think : storing all article's templates (that are DTML methods with some <dtml-var xxx>) in a folder and listing them with a <dtml-in>. Is a good solution ? What do you suggest ? I hope I'll ne able to email you that a new site use Zope, and not have too borrying you with these newbies questions :) Best Regards, Éric. -- Éric BARROCA | Logiciels Libres, Conception Intranet/Extranet, E-Mail: eric(a)netsystems.fr | Sites Web dynamiques, Commerce électronique, Tel: +33 (0)2 48 21 54 67 | Formations (Unix/Linux, Perl, etc.), Réseaux... You'll also need the Extensions/ directory (if you've written any external methods) and any new Products you've installed in lib/python/Products Plus any other changes you've made to the Python files in lib/python :) Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

ZOracleDA on RedHat 6.1 with Oracle 8.0.5.1
by Mattias Kunkel 07 Jan '00

I'm trying to use ZOracleDA 2.1.0 or ZOracleDA 2.2.0b1 on my RedHat 6.1 System. I have installed Oracle 8.0.5.1. I can compile and 'python DCOracle_test.py user/pw@sid' works fine. But if I try 'Control-Panel -> Products -> ZOracleDA' I just get this output: ZOracleDA Import Traceback Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 387, in import_products product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/Products/ZOracleDA/__init__.py", line 91, in ? import DA File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/Products/ZOracleDA/DA.py", line 91, in ? from db import DB File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/Products/ZOracleDA/db.py", line 89, in ? import DCOracle, DateTime File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/Products/ZOracleDA/DCOracle/__init__.py", line 52, in ? import sys, Buffer ImportError: No module named Buffer Can anybody help me? If not, Zope won't be able to find it... Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony(a)interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

RE: [Zope] Zope and Apache: root of ZODB reference problem?
by Jens Vagelpohl 07 Jan '00

hi darran, remove the slash both from "^/optics/(.*)" and just after Zope.cgi, so that your rule looks like: RewriteRule ^/optics(.*) /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi$1 <etc> this works just fine and dandy for me. jens > -----Original Message----- > From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of > Darran Edmundson > Sent: Friday, July 10, 2893 18:44 > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope and Apache: root of ZODB reference problem? > > > > > > Have you tried removing the terminal slash in the rewrite rule? > > > > > > RewriteRule ^/optics/(.*) /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 > > > [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] > > Do you mean "^/optics(.*)"??? Zope vs J2EE
by Nemeth Miklos 07 Jan '00

07 Jan '00

In our department I have decided (as a CTO) to use Zope for an ecommerce application server. And I also would like to use it for another application for a customer. I will have a presentation about Zope and our plans in a 3-day technical conference of our corporation. Can I have some (primarily technical) arguments why Zope is better to some (especially Java-based) specific web application server tool (WebSphere, Oracle Application Server, Oracle8i, NetDynamics, etc)? I'd be very glad if some of you share his thoughts about the topic. NM
