please help! printing a date (choosen from a oracle-database) with <dtml-var zeitstart> causes zope to type 1999/11/28. but trying to format this field with <dtml-var zeitstart fmt="%d.%m.%Y"> results in the following output: 27.11.1999!!!! but this is _really_ not the same day!! :-( why??? lg martin hofer ------------------------------------------ o EDV-Referent an der HTU-GRAZ o ------------------------------------------ Rechbauerstrasse 12 4010 Graz - Austria mail: hofer(a)oeh.tu-graz.ac.at tel: +43/0316 873-5109 | _|_ fax: +43/0316 873-5115 |__ | mobil: +43/0699-1016 1847 | | | | | internet: oeh.tu-graz.ac.at | | | |__|

Adding 'border=0' to image tags
by Shalabh Chaturvedi 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

I inserted an image into a doc using the <dtml-var > tag. I'm using the image as a link and I want to insert "border=0" in the tag. Is this possible _without_ using the <img> tag instead of the <dtml-var > tag. Shalabh

Thanks for the correction. I've modified the article to reflect this. Re: [Zope] zopeNewbie Article on Acquisition
by Jeffrey N. Shelton 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

Thank you for your feedback, Rik! > I wonder whether the parts about inheritance weren't too difficult for > someone without any knowledge of the subject. Yes, I agree. But I wanted to try to put something together that was smaller than a book. Plus, if someone has absolutely no background in OOP, then Zope will be hopelessly beyond them. (Try explaining a DTML command like <dtml-let item="_.getitem('sequence-item', 0)"> to a person who doesn't understand namespaces.) My purpose was to provide a summary for people like myself, who aren't programmers by trade, but who have gleaned a few programming concept over the years. I read the term "attribute" and I think I know what it means, but then I see the term "property" a few sentences later, and I am not sure if the two terms are equivalent. The process of writing helps me make such distinctions clear for myself. If I'm fortunate, it will help others, as well. > Moreover the relation with acquisition does not come to be completely clear: Tell me more! I want to know how to improve the descriptions so that they are crystal clear. > Once again, the part about the working of acquisition itself is great. I'm blushing... > One more remark: in the example, you take three folder objects at the > same level as the basis for acquisition. While this is no problem in > the example shown, in practice acquisition will act to do unexpected > (at least for many users, not from design perspective) things if you > use it on sibling folders. Once again, tell me more! What kind of unexpected things happen? And in what kind of situations is acquisition useful? Now that I understand how it works, I can make Zope do what I want (kind of). But why is this better than the old "one path, one result" system? Thanks for taking the time to read the article! (http://weblogs.userland.com/zopeNewbies/breadcrumbs/acquisition/) Jeff

include standard_html_header / aquisition
by Ulrich Wisser 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

Hello, I try to make a new standard_html_header in a subdirectory. That is no big deal if I only wanted to substitute the object. But I want to include the general header and add some content. e.g.: / standard_html_header (A) standard_html_footer subdir/ standard_html_header (B) dtml_doc dtml_method subsubdir/ standard_html_header (A) looks like <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE><dtml-var title_or_id></TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY> standard_html_header (B) looks like <dtml_var "PARENTS[1].standard_html_header"> <H1>This is additional header content</H1> This works when used in dtml_doc but not in dtml_method. And it doesn't work in any kind of document in subsubdir/. How can I achieve this? Netscape/Zope cache problem - view frame source
by Stephen Pitts 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

I'm currently editing my Zope site with Netscape 4.7/Linux, and I'm having really weird problems with "view frame source". I usually develop with two netscape windows, the first editing a DTML method and the second viewing it. When I "break" the DTML method and refresh, I get an error message in the second window, but when I click "View Frame Source" to look at the error message (or View Source if I'm not inside of the Zope GUI), Netscape shows me the source of the last successful run of that DTML method. I've tried playing with different cache options in Netscape, and in order to make it show me the source of the failed method, I must go into Preferences and hit "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache". Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, have you found a workaround? I'm running the libc5 version of Netscape 4.7 on a Debian Linux box with Zope 2.0.0. -- Stephen Pitts smpitts(a)midsouth.rr.com webmaster - http://www.mschess.org

How do I get a history list for an object.
by Jay, Dylan 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

It would be very nice if I could have a page that lists the history of edits for a particular object. Anyone know how to do this? I found a history method in BaseStorage.py but can't find how to access this or where to get an OID to pass in.

bluefish.Zope ???
by Michael Arndt 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

Hello shortly before was running a thread about Unix Tools and Zope. I have presented Zope to some people who should work in a non-closedand-ready-to-use environment and their critics was the missing tools like Editor and ... Now there is an HTML Editor on Unix(Linux) which should run on any Unix called bluefish. They could include DTML Syntax easyly, and if Zope can be controoled via ftp Prot they could connect to Zope similar like you do with Emacs and you would have a start for a GUI HTML/DTML-Editor. Micha bluefish see below ... > If you can create a list of syntax like the php / rxml etc. list I can easily add them > A good solution for Hackkers is to connect to Zope via Ange-ftp in > Emacs/Xemacs > Bt thinking for normal peopl, would it be possible to connect bluefish > and Zope over the same Mechanism > or another Mechanism. (Normal Users prefer IDE Environments) if there is an ftp server that can be controlled from an other program (bluefish) that could be possible... cu, Olivier ----- End forwarded message ----- -- :-)

Generic User Folder and SQL
by Daniel Pfile 29 Nov '99

29 Nov '99

Allright, I'm not really sure where to start. I'm trying to get a generic user folder working with SQL in order to allow me to insert users using OBDC to the database from another computer. I've managed to get the userList and userRoles returning data from the database fine. What I'm stuck on is getting userAuthenticate to work, I've made a dtml method named userAuthenticate that's a proxy with manager access. The Z SQL method is GetAuthInfo and does a select of the username and password fields from the database when the fields match the username and password that is passed to them. That works great. Only thing I'm missing is how to get my DTML in userAuthenticate to work and return a 1 when GetAuthInfo finds matching username/password fields, and return 0 when it doesn't. Am I missing something really silly here? Are there examples out there of what I'm trying to do? Am I going about this all wrong? I'm completly lost here and would be gratefull for any and all sugestions. # Daniel Pfile # I have no cool signature. # pfiled(a)marietta.edu # Finger for free illegal software.
