(more on) programatically adding ZClass instances ...
by Darran Edmundson 23 Nov '99

23 Nov '99

I am slowly coming to grips with using external methods to reach into the ZODB. Right now, I am trying to create an instance of a folderish ZClass and then populate it with (pre-existing) images from elsewhere in the ZODB. (The following URL has been very helpful http://www.zope.org/Members/tazzzzz/addZClasses.) Excerpts of my external method: # create an instance of MyClass container=parent.Control_Panel.Products.MyProduct.MyClass(container_id) # make container a child object of parent parent._setObject(container_id, container) # set various attributes of container container.id = container_id container.foo = foobar # assume image points to a proper ZClass Image container.manage_addImage(image.id, image.data, '') A few questions: *) The final manage_addImage call occassionally fails with a seek error on image.data. File /usr/local2/Zope/lib/python/OFS/Image.py, line 265, in _read_data (Object: default_image) AttributeError: (see above) I have verified that image is a valid Image and that: repr(image) = <Image instance at 8551e90> len(image.data) = 13611 type(image.data) = <extension class Acquisition.ImplicitAcquirerWrapper at 40160680> repr(image.content_type) = 'image/jpeg' Can someone offer advice as to why my read of image.data fails? *) What happens to container if I *don't* execute parent._setObject(container_id, container)? Doing this, I notice that the size of Data.fs does not increase (before running external method compard to after). Does this mean that Zope has somehow recognized that container doesn't have a parent and deleted it? I'm worried that I could corrupt my database during development of external methods that create/delete/manipulate the ZODB. Cheers, Darran. -- Darran Edmundson [Darran.Edmundson(a)anu.edu.au]

Executing stored procedures in Oracle using ZOracleDA
by Bruno Mattarollo 22 Nov '99

22 Nov '99

Hello I am trying to execute a PL/SQL stored procedure from a ZSQL method. I am using Zope 2.0.1, ZOracleDA 2.1.0, Oracle 8i, all on a Sun UltraSparc machine. The stored procedure is valid. It works. I have read the DCOracle release information and it states that it supports the invocation of stored procedures. I need this in order to use the UserDB product, because my user information is splitted over many tables, and I execute a stored procedures that querys/updates/deletes the user info from the database. I have the following code for example: Execute InsertUsuario ( <dtml-sqlvar username type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar password type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar AUTHENTICATED_USER type="string">, <dtml-sqlvar REMOTE_ADDR type="string"> ) inside a ZSQL Method. When I test this method I get the following traceback: <PRE> Traceback (innermost last): File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 214, in publish_module File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 179, in publish File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 201, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: ApplicationDefaultPermissions) File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 151, in publish File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/ZPublisher/BaseRequest.py, line 304, in traverse File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, line 260, in __bobo_traverse__ (Object: ApplicationDefaultPermissions) File /export/home/bmatt/iPersonal/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py, line 510, in notFoundError NotFound: (see above) </PRE> Can anyone tell me what does this means? Hi Evan, i just downloaded your changed property.dtml file (and the rest). It seems it was somehow (slightly) mutilated in the transfer to zope.org. A new version is appended. It works ok now. Chinese is a whole different story because it's a multi-byte character set, and not even Python has worked out what the story on that is. Most european languages work with locale. > Also what are the chances that ZCatalog can allow us to > include a function > to be used when indexing and searching of the objects, so we > can apply any > word tranformation such as suffix removal i.e. computing, computers, > computer, computed, can be indexed as comput if I choose to. > What I mean > is that we specify a method (possibly external) that will do what is > needed and the resulting word can be indexed by ZCatalog, and the same > method is called to transform the input word usinf the same > method when > searching that catalog. The catalog allready stems words just like you have here. In future releases, there will be an interface defined where you can create your own stemming methods. -Michel

ZCatalog: searching by date
by Alice Gutman 22 Nov '99

22 Nov '99

Hi, I'm part of a student group at UC Berkeley, and I'm trying to use ZCatalog to allow users to search our site by keyword and date modified. But for some reason, the date field seems to be ignored when a search is conducted. Since the keyword part works just fine and I can't find anything wrong with my code, I am stumped. Does anyone have any suggestions? Here is my search_form method, in case that is the problem after all: <form action="report" method="get"> <h2></h2> Enter query parameters:<br><table> <tr><th>Search for text:</th> <td><input name="raw" width=30 value=""></td></tr> <tr><th>Modified since: </th> <td><input type="hidden" name="date_usage" value="range:min"> <select name="date:date"> <option value="">Ever</option> <option value="">Yesterday</option> <option value="">Last Week</option> <option value="">Last Month</option> <option value="">Last Year</option> </select></td></tr> <tr><td colspan=2 align=center> <input type="SUBMIT" name="SUBMIT" value="Submit Query"> </td></tr> </table> </form> Thanks in advance, Alice

The data for existing instances is kept in memory. It is not changable. Zope loads the files off the filesystem for existing instances when Zope is started. so to change the values for existing instances, change the files on the filesystem, and restart Zope. Alternativly, you can run Zope in debug mode '-D' and DTML file objects will be reloaded on every hit. -Michel

Draft howto - Using Keyword Indexes in ZCatalogs
by Alexandre Ratti 22 Nov '99

22 Nov '99

Hello, I uploaded a draft howto about keyword indexes. It describes how to use the new "Keyword" index type in a simple keyword search form. (This new index type is available in ZCatalogs since Zope 2.1b1.) You can read it here: <http://www.zope.org/Members/AlexR/KeywordIndexes/>. Feel free to send me your feedback. Cheers. Alexandre
