newbie-DTML passing url in query-string ?

i have been trying to pass an url in a query-string to a method, like this : my.zopesite.com/function?qs="url to be sent" - which works ok the problem is that when i tell the function to render the url, it intreprets it is a string. If my function looks like this :  <dtml-var qs>  ...i just get an output of "url to be sent" instead of the content of that url.. This seems reasonable enough to me, but how do i tell Zope to render the contents of the document which id equals the query string ? Gettin all images of a folder

Hi all, I have a folder : /MyFolder In this folder there is another folder : /MyFolder /Images The Images folder contains both images and some DTML documents. I would like to be able to display the list of all available images. What is the DTML script to write to iterate through all the images of the Images folder ? smthg like :  </...> Please don't flame : it is my first Zope attempt ! Thx !

How Fast & Stable??

Hi We are setting up a web storefront and I have come across Zope towards the end of a long and frustrating evaluation process. To be frank, when you get up close most application servers just don't cut it. ColdFusion, for example, seems to have some serious reliability problems. Until I spotted Zope, I was pretty much resigned to a belt-and-braces solution with Perl/Velocigen or Tcl/AolServer. Not an easy route, but at least it would be reliable. Compared to raw coding, a Python/Zope/Apache/Solid solution looks attractive, to say the least. But at this relatively early stage in its development, can Zope truly deliver? So a plea to you folks who are actually using Zope 2 in a production setting - is it fast enough and stable enough for us to (literally) bet our house on? It will be running unattended on a remote server (probably Linux). We are planning a niche storefront site which will probably get modest traffic of around 50,000 hits a day with around 3,000 products in the database. Zope is obviously a great product, and most people on this list will be evangelists. But I really would appreciate your objective views. The CVS version of Zope has been much improved in this area. First, 'z2.py' offers the '-L' switch to set your locale. This is useful so that the Catalog doesn't split up your words on non-english characters like umlauts and such. Second, ZCatalog supports a new feature called a Lexicon, which allows you to have more control over stopwords and stemming rules. More improvement is needed, but I'm not exactly sure where to go without some specific feedback. In the future, there may be 'Pluggable Lexicons' for various languages. -Michel

Zope and System V init

Hello, my Linuxbox is not running 24/7. Normally it is booted once a day. My database (Oracle) is started with an System V init script at boottime. Is there such a script for Zope? ZCatalog: searching for parts of words?

Hello Zopestas, is there a way to use the full textindex of ZCatalog for finding parts of words? For Example: seeking for 'word' would also bring up 'words'? Using external editor to edit textareas in Lynx

Maybe this has allready been mentioned in the discussion about external editors, but I couldn't find anything about it, so here it goes. Using Lynx 2.8.2 you can invoke an external editor to edit textarea's by pressing ^ve. Of course you must have specified an external editor in your options. Very convenient :) Hope this is of some use to somebody... Best, Leon.

netscape fastrack server and zope..?

hi zopistas here's an odd one. i've never heard of anyone running Zope with PCGI through a Netscape server, but somehow a friend of mine set it up (FastTrack 2.0.1) and now he has just one little problem. renaming an object works when he accesses the zope instance using the port ZServer listens on, but he is getting a "Not Found" error when using the netscape server port. Looking at his logs he finds that the rename operation all of a sudden tries to display the URL <server>/Zope/. FreeBSD : anyone else noticed kernel "table full" errors when Zope is installed ? Zope is installed ?

I have 4 almost identical servers : - FreeBSD 3.2 - MySQL - Apache 1.3.6 All were running various websites using CGI scripts. All were stable and have more than sufficient resources. I've since installed Zope on 3 of them and all 3 in question have subsequently started throwing up the following kernel log messages as soon as Zope is installed (running on the backend of Apache) : > file: table is full > file: table is full > file: table is full > file: table is full > file: table is full This is easily resolved by increasing the MAXUSERS in the kernel but what worries me is that I should even need to do this. One of the boxes was handling 2 million hits per day last month without creating these kernel errors. I am tempted to assume that this is all due to Zope because the correlation is so strong - run Zope and these errors occur, don't run zope and don't get any. Even for one of the servers that is still offline with zero traffic. Has anyone else experienced this on FreeBSD ? Any reason why this might be Zope-induced ? cheers, chas
