Problems with manage access

Hi Zopers, I need help building a registration site. Basically, I would like to use the manage_access method to allow user to register himself inside Zope. However, I do not want him to be able to play strange games with other users. Have you any ideas ? Many thanks Paolo Bizzarri

Initialization of properties in a ZClass instance?

I have created a NewsItem ZClass for encapsulating updates on my research for my collaborators to view. NewsItem is subclassed from ZObjectManager, can contain only DTML methods and images, and should possess a number of properties including the "date". The problem is that /Products/NewsItemProduct/NewsItemClass/propertysheets/common/NewsItemProperties will not allow me to add a "date" property of type date and leave it blank. Ideally, I would like this property to default (ie. automatically initialize) to the current datetime. How does one achieve this? (My guess is that I give it a dummy value in the class definition and then set it in the constructor method?). This raises the question: does every object instance have a creation datetime even though it doesn't explicitly appear on the Properties tab, and if so, is this value available in a DTML method. On an unrelated note, how can I make each instance of NewsItem's index_html method autmatically visible in the Contents tab and available for editing? Any help is much appreciated. Darran. P.S. A newbie plea for threaded email archives ...

As a relative newcomer to Zope, I am still struggling up the steep portion of the learning curve. And, while the growing number of HOWTOs is very helpful, this list is my favourite Zope resource. A plea though, it would be invaluable if the list archives were available in a good searchable threaded database. I trying to create a form that conditionally allows files to be included in the submission. This is no problem. However I want these files to be sent in an email message. Using the <dtml-mime> and <dtml-boundry> tags is fine however I can seem to do something like the following <dtml-mime><dtml-if blah><dtml-boundry><dtml-var blah></dtml-mime> This seems a big shortcoming in the syntax of the mime tag. Has anyone managed to get around this? Also, with the multipart form, is there anyway to get at the filename of the file uploaded and then subsequently use that as the name of the attachment in the email?

FreeBSD 2.2.7: Can't get started.

Hello Zope experts, Hope you can lend a hand. I've been trying out Zope on some Linux systems and all is well there, but I'm hitting a roadblock on a FreeBSD 2.2.7 system. Here's what I've done: I grab Python 1.5.2 and install it: $ gunzip -c py152.tgz | tar xvf - $ cd Python-1.5.2 $ ./configure --with-thread $ make $ make test # 43 tests OK. 18 tests skipped. $ make install # as root Then I grab Zope 2.0.0 source distribution and unpack it: $ gunzip -c Zope-2.0.0-src.tgz | tar xvf - $ cd Zope-2.0.0-src After consulting doc/INSTALL.txt, I decide I want to try Zope using ZServer, so: $ python wo_pcgi.py I take note of the superuser name and password, and then... $ ./start ------ 1999-09-14T06:00:48 PROBLEM(100) ZServer Computing default hostname ------ 1999-09-14T06:00:48 INFO(0) ZServer Medusa (V1.10) started at Mon Sep 13 23:00:48 1999 Hostname: foo.example.com Port:8080 ------ 1999-09-14T06:00:48 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Mon Sep 13 23:00:48 1999 Authorizer:None Hostname: foo.example.com Port: 8021 ------ 1999-09-14T06:00:48 INFO(0) ZServer Monitor Server (V1.5) started on port 8099 ...and it waits there. (Names have been changed to protect the server.) This looks good. It tells me an HTTP server (Medusa) is listening on port 8080. So I open another window and try to connect a client to that server: $ lynx http://localhost:8080/ Lynx eventually replies: "HTTP request sent; waiting for response." and waits... and waits... and waits. If I try to connect lynx to another port (where there is no server), I quickly get the message "Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host." So, it looks like Lynx is able to connect to Medusa. However, Medusa never sends back any response. The first window, where ZServer wrote its startup messages to stderr, also never says anything. So what's wrong? How can I diagnose the trouble? Is there a log file being written anywhere which might be recording a clue as to what to try next? Has anyone had similar experience on a FreeBSD system with Zope? ZCatalog speed?

Well, I've been playing around with static DTML Documents and Zcatalogues from my SQL database. I use a set of dtml methods to generate static pages in a 2-level folder heirachy from my SQL database, I use one parent method calling 3 sub-methods (one to clear out the old structure and make a new one, one to get the sub-list of folders, one to make the actual documents in the folders, this seems to force Zope to commit a little more often than putting it all in one document.. which is a good thing) I have found the following: on my 500MHz P-II with 196MB of memory it takes: a - 22 minutes to create 8800 documents (smallish) in 1200 folders within zope, not too fast :( but not exactly a user-interaction-limiting factor :) b - too long to then try to do a search based add to a zcatalog, ie: netscape times out after only around 8 minutes, and the search has not finished! BTW, Zopes python process and postgresql take about 50% of the CPU each, and there is basically zero disk thrashing during this process (although zope does get up around 50MB of memory use..) Amy I trying to exceed the zcatalogs capabilities here? seems like a reasonable ask to me, but without some reference it's hard to tell - I'm really wanting to add 22000 larger documents, but that will have to wait till I find a faster way. document_src method strangeness

hi everyone, i'm not sure if this is a bug or if i didn't read the documentation right. i want to have a link at the bottom of the page called "view source" that shows the source behind an object, just like on the new zope site. the method is the very same as on the new zope site: framed by header and footer i have <pre><dtml-var "document_src(REQUEST,RESPONSE)" html_quote></pre> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('content-type','text/html')"> i'm having trouble when view_source encounters a tree or in-tag, but interestingly enough the troublemakers are not within the rendered object (a dtml-doc which uses standard-header and footer) but in the standard header. the in/tree is activated after checking a folder attribute to look into a subfolder and list all dtml-docs, like in: <snip snip> <dtml-if homeworks><dtml-with homeworks> <dtml-in expr="objectValues(['DTML Document'])"> <IMG SRC="<dtml-var SCRIPT_NAME>/HelpSys/hs_dnode" ALIGN="TOP" BORDER="0" width=16 height=16> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>"><dtml-var title></a> </dtml-in> </dtml-with></dtml-if> <snip snip> when i use view_source on a document which does not have "homeworks" set it works. just not when "homeworks" is there and the in-tag gets "active". i get an error: A horrible error occurred.
