sir, i guess i'm not gettin it. kindly tell me the syntax. wats happeneing is dat its setting the last item as selected. where as i want the item matching the result from 'distname' var sud be selected only. kindly gimme the syntax if possible. Structured text / charsets

Hey, although there are lots of postings about charset problems with Structured Text, I haven't found an answer to my specific problem. I have that Zope installation where a large hierarchy of documents has been created over the course of three years. Back then I created a web interface that could be used by people in various European countries to edit content in structured text format, which is then rendered onto pages automatically. In my hierarchy of folders, I established a system that will automatically insert the correct page encoding in the page's header, depending on the country (ISO-8859-1 and ISO-8859-2 are in use). This works fine as far as the content is concerned. For some reason, nobody has ever noticed before that structured text doesn't work well in this scenario. Reading postings about charset problems with structured text, the solution usually involves setting the locale for the Zope instance to the correct value. The problem is, this Zope instance contains data in different charsets, so this doesn't seem to be the solution here. Is there any solution out there that would let me set the locale (as used by the structured text parser) on a folder basis? This is plain Zope 2.5.1 from Debian Stable. I've got to set the particular item selected in a dropdown list which was in the request object.this is fetched by reloading the page. i've a var 'distname' which holds wat has been selected <body tal:define="distname request/form/districtname|nothing" onload="foc()"> wen i use this in my option tag of the list with the attribute tag nothing happens. <option tal:content="district/district_name" tal:attributes="selected distname"></option> i guess coz the 'selected' attribute don take any values. so how do do it?

SELinux uses a series of hooks (via LSM) at strategic points within the kernel. These hooks are used to divert the normal flow of the kernel into a security checking mechanism called the Access Vector Cache (AVC). The AVC contains cached permission checks performed against the system's security policy. As the working set of permission checks for a given workload is typically quite small, having them cached allows SELinux to scale virtually independently to the size of the security policy. For the vast majority of cases, an SELinux permission check is a quick cache lookup rather than a search of the entire security policy database. [...] *Solution: RCU* A few attempts had been made at "fixing" or getting rid of the AVC lock, using reader/writer lock variants and per-cpu techniques. Neither worked very well. Kaigai's patch, however, utilized RCU <http://lse.sourceforge.net/locking/rcupdate.html>, a mechanism which allows lockless reads and the elimination of atomic operations in read paths. As the AVC is overwhelmingly read-only on a typical system, RCU turned out to be an ideal method for removing the AVC lock completely. (about RCU: Read-Copy Update is one such mutual exclusion method where readers (threads trying to access, but not modify the data) can access the shared data without acquiring any conventional lock.) --- Could a similar idea/approach ascache security lookups + Rcu similar thing be useful to Zope or "I'm totally missing the point? (tm)"? :)

All, I did (finally) figure out that Plone workflow trumps Zope access control entries, so I am implementing a modified workflow (with additional states that re-implement the "visible" and "published" states with ACEs that require authenticated access). Further reading seems to indicate that I can call DTML or Python methods from a page template, so I will report back with the results of my research in a few days. I plan writing up the whole process as a mini-howto. Perhaps it could be included as a tutorial in a future release of Zope or Plone. I am trying to use a simple internal link: <a href="#jump">jump to further down the page</a> . . . . <a name="jump">you should end up here</a> Zope wants to add a '/' to the end of the base link so I am using: <a href="<dtml-var URL1>#jump">jump to another part of page</a> instead but this wants to refresh the page before going to this section. Any help appreciated.

Data.fs.lock => shouldn't be there?

Hello all, Me again! Always with Zope 2.7.4 on Solaris 9. I've detected that I had a lock on the Data.fs (more than 2Gb) file (Data.fs.lock) for several days (Data.fs hadn't changed its modification date for days) and the Data.fs.tmp was growing over 11Mb! I removed the lock (rm Data.fs.lock), but it didn't change anything to this situation. After an export of all the sensible data, I did a restart! It wouldn't restart! I moved the Data.fs.index out the "var", and restarted => it did restart, but all the changes from the moment Data.fs had been locked had gone (probably what was in the Data.fs.tmp => since it got back to 0k) It takes a little longer to reboot (since it has to remake its index), but the problem is here again: there is again a Data.fs.lock file in the "var" directory ! => I can assume that it has to be there during reboot while it's making its index, but then it should desapear, shouldn't it? Or is it a lock from zope itself and it is always there? 1) At some time, my zope instance get blocked outside the Data.fs ! 2) It seems that the index does not keep up, as it generates errors while restarting ! Is there a link between these two situations? I cannot figure what could lock out zope from the Data.fs ? Is this Data.fs too big (not far from 3 Gb => in fact it was more than 3Gb but I packed it before restarting it => it didn't affect the size of the Data.fs.tmp though, that remained over 11Mb) ? For a normal plone site: Where would it get picked up? I added it to the beginning of $SOFTWARE_HOME/Zope/Startup/zopectl.py (the script called by "zopectl start"). However, the new checkinterval ist not passed on to the rest. Do I have to set this at the beginning of each script? Where would be a suitable place/file to add this setting?
