Gang, We're trying to put together a quick sheet of users and testimonials for Linux Expo this week, and if any of you have testimonials you'd like to submit, or just want to tell us about your wonderful Zope installation, please send them to me personally, and we'll work on getting them in. permissions

Hey you guys: Which of the permissions to I need to give a Role for this case: You are not authorized to access manage_renameObject. It looks like I need the "View Management Screens" permission here, right? If so, that's poorly factored. I can give a Role permission to Add things, but once it's there, they can't fix it. I suppose it's because you don't want the Role to be able to change existing objects, just one's they've added. So, another thing that'll come with Ownership as well, I guess. Ross -- Ross J. Upgrading Zope

Another newbie question-- When Zope 1.11 (and future upgrades) are released, will the installation process automatically preserve data files from the previous Zope installation? If not, are there guidelines as to which files should be preserved and moved into the new installation? I agree that it would be nice to have factored this out into something you could use other than manager. Last I looked, there was no way to circumvent NSE's internal handling of HTTP methods using the nsapi, which means _no_one_ will be able to implement a WebDAV-enabled _anything_ under that server until Netscape makes it possible... :( FWIW, NSE understands its own set of "extended" HTTP methods which are similar to (but not compatible with) the new HTTP methods defined in DAV. These extensions and their semantics were created by NS to add value to their servers and make them work with their proprietary authoring tools, so I don't know how motivated NS would be to change the current situation. If WebDAV takes off, they may be motivated to support it, but it's quite possible that they would just map DAV methods to their own internal code (just as they do now) and still prevent back-end app servers from handling these methods directly. Zope on BSDI

I've just gotten Zope running on a BSDI system. The installation's a pain, but it seems to run well enough once installed. The trick, as usual, is to link all the necessary Python modules into a custom interpreter. This involves some hand-hacking of the Zope and Python builds. I'll write up more detailed documentation as soon as my current project is done. My client will need to run Zope with a statically-linked Python for some time to come. Would anybody at DC be interested in supporting this configuration better? If so, I can budget a day to work on this aspect of Zope. Cheers, Eric

referencing individual variables

Hey everyone, here is the new problem of the day: i have been using the split function to split up the contents of a cookie value at the comma's which are the seperators. The resulting output comes out thus: ['var1','var2','var3'] how do i go about referencing these 3 different variables individually??? Please help me.... Adding User Roles through Products

Hi! I am developing a product that uses roles to show certain content to different people. I am looking for a way to automatically add user roles to zope when creating a new instance of that product. Is there a way to do that and when how? Bye Alex
