- ANNOUNCE: ZPublisher component release

A long time ago we said that we'd offer Zope components separately, now we're finally getting around to fulfilling this promise. http://www.zope.org/Download/Components Right now we have ZPublisher available, and I'll probably get ZTemplates up there pretty soon. The reason for these component releases is to make life easier on people who are interested in some Zope components but don't want to bother to download the entire Zope release. The ZPublisher component includes everything you need to publish Python objects on the web including: ZPublisher -- This package includes the Zope ORB, Zope Debugger, and Zope RPC client. This package allows you to publish objects with Zope. PCGI -- This optional component provides publishing services and long running process support to the Zope ORB that work with any web server that supports CGI. ZopeHTTPServer -- This optional package is a simple web server which can publish a module with Zope. CGI -- This optional component includes a simple Zope CGI publisher which allows you to publish objects using a CGI script. The only thing new is the CGI publisher which is the long awaited cgi-module-publisher replacement. It's pretty simple and it doesn't use symbolic links. I'm calling this release 3.0.0b1 because I am taking up numbering where Bobo releases left off. Enjoy. -Amos P.S. A long time ago some people including Jeff Bauer and myself talked about writing some kind of Zope publisher installer that might allow guided setup of module publishing. Alright, the first announcement of 1999. DCOracle is going open source. DCOracle is our Python extension module for Oracle: http://www.digicool.com/site/DCOracle We are WAY behind on getting more database adapters out, but fortunately we are making progress on getting more resources here at Digital Creations. - Documentproperties - XML/RDF

I am designing a knowledgemanagement system and right now Zope seems to be the best choice. But... I really need a property page for documents, implemented according to the RDF specification (www.w3.org/TR/WD-rdf-syntax/) and the Dublin Core schema (www.w3.org/TR/WD-rdf-schema/) Somewhere I read that a next version of Zope would include a property page for documents and I wonder if this can/will be done according to the RDF-specification in Python. Also if anybody knows about some efforts in writing Pyton code for handling RDF I really would appreciate some feedback. Wiebe Kunst

Specifically, I'd like to check out a sub-tree to a file, take it on the road and tweak it. Since I've got the folder in a session I would essentially have it locked for writing. When I got back I would replay the transactions into the main site. --Rob

- Some DateTime behaviors I just don't understand

I tried: dt = DateTime.DateTime(time.time()) dt.timeTime() and got just what I expected: 915677129.19 I then tried dt = DateTime.DateTime(0.0) dt.timeTime() and got a traceback: Traceback (innermost last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? File "DateTime/DateTime.py", line 874, in timeTime raise self.DateTimeError,'No time module compatible time to return' DateTimeError: No time module compatible time to return Surely 0.0 is a valid time module compatible time: time.gmtime(0.0) (1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 3, 1, 0) Can I not initialize a DateTime object to the Unix epoch? I tried several multiples of 10.0 and didn't avoid the traceback until I tried dt = DateTime.DateTime(100000.0) which is somewhat more than one day more recent than gmtime(0.0). There's apparently some magnitude-dependent interpretation of single numeric initializers, but the documentation file in the package is unclear on how it distinguishes between the two interpretations: A DateTime object is returned that represents either the gmt value of the time.time() float represented in the local machine's timezone, or that number of days after January 1, 1901. Note that the number of days after 1901 need to be expressed from the viewpoint of the local machine's timezone. A negative argument will yield a date-time value before 1901. - Zope Solid Database Adapter is available for testing

Hi, I've put together a beta release of a Zope Solid Database Adapter (for the Solid Database) at: http://www.zope.org/Download/ZSolidDA/ I'd appreciate comments and bug reports before I make a final release. Note: This DA uses a SWIGed extension module, sql.c. This release includes the source, which happens also to be the source of the ODBC DA (ZODBCDA). I assume that this could be readily adapted to other databases that provide an ODBC interface, such as Adabase. I also suspect that we will eventually replace this DA with one maded on mxODBC.
