Hi, I have one little "niggle" regarding browser based application deployment that has been simmering on the back burner for quite a while now. Now that I'm getting ready to get really serious about Zope, et al... I'm now wanting to get this answered. Scenario: Heads down data entry/long session of interactions... Questions: - As I go from screen to screen to screen (ala panel model of non-active, e.g. Java, interaction)... each panel "stacks" on top of the previous, right? - If so, is there any way to force the browser to "flush" the stack, with the side effect, for example, of making the "Back" button on Netscape not return to the screen from whence I just came? For example, if I go "in" 10 levels, I can then go "Back" the 10 levels. If at the 10th level, I did a "commit", and then if I back out some number of levels, and then took a different path, or did something that thought it could do a "transaction abort" or "rollback" (etc), how do I maintain transaction integrity? - If there is no way to "flush" the stack, how do I keep the browser's URL stack from eventually overflowing? Let's say that I expect several hundred, or thousand, or millions, or trillions (USA or other) of transactions in a session... (no matter what limit you set, I'll claim that I need several times that number of interactions... which is easily accomplished in a typical application that doesn't nest...) - I couldn't insert a user submitted multiline text into Gadfly

Hi, I have an SQLMethod that inserts data into a Gadfly database table. The datas are submitted by an HTML form, that has a textarea named mDetail. My SQLMethod looks like this: insert into mytable '' And it doesn't work for me. I realised that if mDetail has only one line of text then it works. I haven't been able to find a solution. Ok, so now I can debug zope in emacs, and set breakpoints where I want. Back to the earlier problem! Some breakpoints which I think should get hit, do not get hit. Eg, a breakpoint on my external method. I don't yet know why this happens. *TWO MORE MISC CHANGES: - So that I could run Test.py with the '-t' flag on windows, I changed instances of '/dev/null' to '/zopetest.tmp' - For quicker debugging, I made a change at ExternalMethod/ExternalMethod.py line 244, to reload external methods every time: # SKWM - always reload (todo: check debug flag) # try: f=self._v_f # except: f=self.getFunction() f=self.getFunction(1,1) *SWITCHED TO PDOCUMENTTEMPLATE - I tried again to step through zope's publishing process and into my method.. still haven't quite managed it. - I thought, "well it goes through c code at some point (cDocumentTemplate) and maybe that's confusing the debugger". Not to mention me. So, in order to try pDocumentTemplate, I: - renamed lib/python/DocumentTemplate/cDocumentTemplate.pyd (to hide it); - changed DT_Util.py: #SKWM #except: from pDocumentTemplate import InstanceDict, TemplateDict, render_blocks except: from pDocumentTemplate import InstanceDict, TemplateDict, render_blocks class cDocument: pass - made a fix, or at least a change, in pDocumentTemplate.py, line 159 (allowed me to manage Documents again) : #SKWM r=str(inst) r=str(inst) - And now, zope appears to run fine using the pDocumentTemplate and I can step through it as far as I want. As before, some breakpoints which I would expect to get hit, don't. - With one exception - running with pDocumentTemplate appears to break access control. Same with BOBO_DEBUG_MODE=1. I have a huge number of questions -- most are due to the fact that the documentation on the web site seems to have massive holes (or am I missing something). I take it the documentation is a work-in-progress? Anyway, I didn't mean to sound so negative. Zope is great, from what I'm able to do so far. Let me ask about my current sticking point. I have a folder that contains some Documents and some Files. The folder has an index_html Document:  <h1></h1> <a href="manage">Manage this directory</a><p>  <a href=""><IMG border=0 SRC="/"></a>    Two questions: 1) This works OK, except that File objects have a + (directory expansion widget) displayed next to them. When you open this up, the directory underneath the File object is the contents of the very folder that *contains* the FIle object. The result is you have a recursive foldering. Why does the File object have this +, and why does it list the enclosing folder contents? 2) I don't want to list the User Folders (for example). I can test the name of the folder with , but I would rather do it by testing the superclass of the item (if SimpleUserFolder is a superclass of the item, don't display the item) (the name of the folder may not always be "User Folder") *or* testing for the isAUserFolder attribute. I have tried probably a hundred ways of doing this, with absolutely no success. Most of my attempts cause Zope errors (and despite what the page says, there is no error information when I look at the source of the page). How do I reference a class of the Folder object from within the  construct? How do I test if an object has the attribute isAUserFolder? (hasattr does not work apparently). More generally, how do I debug this sort of thing? I can't even figure out *what* the problems I was having was (syntax? object naming?) -Gabe

YES, IT WORKS! I suspect that mailman doesn't like mail forwarding perhaps as an anti-spam preventer. I subscribe to many other lists and forwarding is not a problem.
