Problem running Zope for first time.

I've just installed Zope and ./start'd it. During installation I got a password to go with the superuser account. I hit Zope on port 8080 with my web browser and try to get to the management screens, but keep getting an authorization error using the name/password I was given. I'm positive I'm using teh right password and know that it is case sensitive. So I tried changing the password on teh command line with 'python zpasswd.py' but get: [root@larch zope]# python zpasswd.py Traceback (innermost last): File "zpasswd.py", line 90, in ? import sys, string, sha, binascii, whrandom, getopt, getpass, os ImportError: No module named sha Any ideas? As for zope.org's sub-lightning speed, that's explained in a previous email I sent today. We've been too cheap to buy another machine, so one PII-350 is servicing zope.org (plus digicool.com and six other sites) PLUS the mailing lists PLUS mail delivery. We should have moved the mail stuff off to another machine a long time ago. For the first few months (during July and August) we ran the new Zope.org site straight to ZServer. However, our opinion is that most people will prefer the comfort of sitting behind their trusted webserver and letting it do logging, SSL, etc. Thus we'd like to try and run in the configuration most people use. Perhaps we'll change our mind and move back to "straight to ZServer", but it's proving to be a good test case for real world scenarios. --Paul

database size's for knowledge base and squishdot

Out of curiousity how large can applications like the knowledge base, and squishdot get before moving away from Zope's default storage. How easy would it be to move to something like MySQL or PostgreSQL. thanks, Geoff Nordli

SiteAccess - Virtual Hosting

Evan is to be applauded for the wonderful docs he provided with SiteAccess; however, I still have a problem. The DTML Method he listed under Example 1: <dtml-call "REQUEST.path.append('mysite')"> which is to be placed in the root folder with the id set as AccessRule works great. : ) Although everything within the mysite folder is working correctly, I am immediately placed into the mysite folder when I access Zope. This means I cannot see my Zope root at all. Did I miss something somewhere? If my zope is sitting at www.mysite.com:8080 but I want to also have www.mysite.com:8080/my2ndsite and www.mysite.com:8080/my3rdsite - how do I do this? Root Folder Control Panel ZCatalog MySite Folder index_html neatstuff index_html My2ndsite Folder index_html neatstuff index_html My3rdsite Folder index_html neatstuff index_html How can I set it up so that if I just enter www.mysite.com:8080/manage I get into the Root Folder, but if I enter anything else, I'm directed to the correct folder? HELP: downloading file from netscape/old IE can froze zope

Hello, I have just discovered a very nasty problem with Zope and all my versions of netscape(up to 4.6), and with the old verions of IE: - I put .PNG pictures in a folder.Clicking on thoses file open the 'save as' dislog box (I don't know why the extension is not recognized), if people press the cancel button at this time, Zope is frossen. The only thing to do is to kill the zope process and restart it. It's working fine with IE5. Has someone a solution to this? Which is the faulty piece of code? the python SocketServer, the ZopeHttpServer? (NB: this problem occurt on Zope 1.10.3. This is working ok with Zope2; the only Pb is that the system we have developed here doesn't works on Zope2!) If I can not fix this kind of Pb, the only system using Zope we have here at the European Space Agency/Italy center may disapear :-( Thanks for any help. Gilles Lavaux

There's a UML model, but it's currently guts-on-the-floor cuz our modeling software trashed it. Before you go hacking though, you might want to look at the CVS version of Zope that has Amos's KeywordIndex. This sounds essentialy to be like your ListIndex. Also, be forwarned, this is deep voodoo. -Michel
