I ran into some problems and have the fixes. I think they should be added to the install.txt file or even a FAQ. Who is in charge of this? permission denied error

I am almost there. I am running as root I expanded the source code. ran python w_pcgi.py It compiled fine. changed the owner on the var directory to nobody. chown nodoby var This should give it RWX in the entire directory. Ran "./start" I get an error: "permission denied: '/home/zope/Zope-2.0.1-src/var/Z2.pid'" It does write some pid files: zProcessManager.pid, pcgi.pid What else should I change. thanks, Geoff Nordli

Subfolders within 'Extensions'

Exploring Pyrhon External Methods and wanting to upload a lot of python modules and keep them tidy. For example imaging files into Extensions to do live thmumbnailing and image composition. So far have not been too successful with python scripts importing form the Extensions folder... Any sepcial tips about calling modules from python in External Methods? Are subfolders allowed in 'Extensions' ? Thanks - Jason

Confera reply error

I can't post a reply to a Confera message. I'm running Python 1.5.2, Confera 1.2.0, and Zope 2.0.1. Similar errors have been posted in Zope archive mailing lists and bug reports, but no solution or patch. Does anyone know of a fix? what user and group to use for zope install

Should I create a user, and group for zope install? Where should I put the installation? "/usr/local/zope" Should the user/group own Zope's entire directory structure. In the documentation it says that the user that starts Zope must own the var directory. How do you know what user is being used to start Zope, and how do you control it. I did the compile using "root". What kind of security implication is having root own the zope directory. document the linux install process, in detail

I have been struggling with install on linux for a couple of days now. I did the one on NT in 5 seconds. It would be great describing how to do an installation, Step- by-step. Keeping it very high-level. So a below-average user could sucessfully install Zope. Something like this. Getting Python set up right for a successful Zope installation: Make sure that you have python 1.5.2 installed. You can check this by entering "python". It will come back and tell you what the version # is. To exit from the interpreter press "Ctrl-D". If you don't have 1.5.2 installed then how do you ugrade? I am not sure on this one. Can you just untar the py152.tgz file and go to town. How do you check to make sure that you have the development libraries installed. If you don't have them installed how do you do an upgrade. If you have them installed, and you have 1.5.2 installed you are ready to roll. I know that this documentation should be at python, but I didn't find it, and since Zope relies heavily on python it should be included. We want people to get it up and running ASAP. Don't give them an excuse not to use it. Let's install Zope now. Two different methods--binary install, and tarball. Now this is where I would like some direction. What user account should I use to do the install. What user account should I use to unpack the files. Should I create some accounts or groups before processing. Where do I put the files. With a binary file it stays in the same location, but with a tarball it moves. What are the kinds of decisions that you the experienced developer makes when doing an installation. It would be great to make a bullet proof installation process. My 2 pennies. Geoff Nordli

Searching through PARENTS

Is there a way for a DTMLMethod to determine if a particular folder is in its acquisition path? For example, suppose I have the following structure: / FolderA FolderB FolderC FolderD FolderE If I define a method which actually resides in FolderA (and is therefore inherited by subfolders), is there way for me to check to see if FolderB is in my PARENTS collection? If I was displaying /FolderA/FolderB/FolderC I would want my method to answer true to the question of whether or not FolderB was in my PARENTS collection. Howerver if I was displaying /FolderA/FolderD/FolderE, the answer would be false. What I really want to know is if there is a syntax which can answer the question PARENTS contains "<some id>" Thanks.
