That's closer to how I was planning to allow access control for specific directories and files. The problem with this approach is that I don't want to make the objects that represent directories or files in the local file system persistent Zope objects, which would be necessary to store access control data in the ZODB. I like the 'access' file approach for that reason, but I don't like the fact that it wouldn't be manageable throught the Zope interface. I honestly haven't come up with a really good solution yet. --jfarr

NotMail

I just attempted to install NotMail. Not much luck. The import appears to not be happy. I get the following Traceback. Using batch variables in expressions

I want to verify that certain fields in a form have been entered. Here's a code snippet I've tried to use: <dtml-let required="('first', 'last', 'email')"> <dtml-in required> <dtml-if expr="REQUEST.form[sequence-item]"> <dtml-var sequence-item> exists </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> Naturally, I get an error when this is executed, since Python interprets "sequence-item" in the dtml-if as subtracting item from sequence. I thought <dtml-var sequence-item> might work, but apparently that sort of thing is not allowed in an expression. Is there a way to access the value of sequence-item in an expression? [Zope 1.10] grand child inclusion?

I can't seem to be able to include the result of a sub document folder in its grand parent folder. This is my current configuration: folderA/ DTMLMethod1 folderB/ DTMLMethod2 If I call  in DTMLMethod1, I get the HTML quoted contents of DTMLMethod2. I'd like to have the DTMLMethod2 called instead. What should I do? Note: I also tried  and variations thereof to no avail.

The best bet is for the web page, in the browser, to figure out what template and data it wants. You could use javascript for this. The page then asks the server for the template, and passes the specific data it wants like a form does. The Zope server loads a set of variables from the form data. The template is written to write those variables into the page where you want them (as in  would insert var1, and so on). Of course, a variable could actually be a fairly lengthy string (best to use POST instead of GET for these) Also, the "some_text" things could be stored as DTML documents. The standard headers and footers work this way, for example. The template would contain  where you want to write it. I notice that several people have asked similar questions recently. You can do a lot on in the browser using javascript, and the javascript could even be written dynamically by Zope. If you can do it in the browser, it is usually better, since it reduces the burden on the server. Let the server do good server-like things, like retrieving query results from a database or formatting pages or calling custom code. And let the web page handle user interactions and the related logic without bothering the server.
