Integration with other application servers

Hi there, I've followed the SiteServer/ASP vs. Zope discussion, and I have a variant of it. It's pretty obvious that with SiteServer you're in Microsoft land. How about application servers that mainly implement their logic through servlets and java server pages (JSP)? I see these solutions as more open than Microsoft's. I'm not exactly looking at a pros and cons evaluation between Zope and other Java-centric application servers, but rather if it makes sense, and if so how, to make them work together. By the very nature that we're doing work with IBM, I'd like to know how (if any) tight an integration I could get between Zope and IBM WebSphere. Would it make sense to use them together? Could Zope be bytecompiled with JPython and run on a Java application server? Zope as it stands, independent, proud, is a tough sell to anyone that has standardized on other middle-ware. If it could run closely together with other middle-ware, it'll be much easier to sell. I was thinking an ideal solution would be to have the option of using Zope at the topmost layer to glue together dynamic webpages, supported by a more standard middle-ware (like Java-centric application servers) that would again provide access to other systems, like Lotus Notes, Net.Commerce, SAP, legacy systems, etc... Besides the "nonstandard middle-ware = tough sell" argument, it does make sense that more systems would provide interfaces into a more standardized middle-ware layer. classified product/zclass

hi, anybody working on a classified class/product? i'm in the thinkiing process and has a few questions: 1-which is better? ZODB or using relational database? with ZODB, i'm thinking of ZCatalog as the main engine. 2-if the site has massive hits, which will respond better? storing data in ZODB or external relational database? comments and pointers are welcome. tia

Editing downloaded + installed product?

I have downloaded a nice-ish looking product, all complete with .dtml, .py, .gif etc files. Now I would like to take this product, strip it down to the barest bones to understand its (and Zope's) inner workings, then resurrect it to learn developing at least something stupid and mindless. Problems: a) I see no way how to "modify" any installed product. (I suspect that this cute "closed box" symbol means: no way - but I have yet to find docs to this respect) b) I do not seem to be able to get a copy of this product into Zope in an "editable" form. c) I do not seem to be able to add some "plain", straight-forward Python code to a ZClass that I have created from scratch; only adding an External Method *on disk* can be added? (and this finally leads us to...) d) I suspect that even if I modify all that on disk I will have to restart ZServer each time? Could somebody please shed some light on this? Thanks!

Distributing product "unmangled"

I have no problems "distributing" a product. My only problem is that my "test-x.x.tar.gz" contains __init__.py product.dat version.txt while all other products that I have downloaded so far contain the "raw", "unmangled" material, e.g. __init__.py addRedirector_form.dtml manageRedirector.dtml VERSION.TXT ... What am I missing (and how do I get rid of this "mangling")?

Object reference and the _SetObject() method

Hi, I'm playing around a bit with references to objects. I just did this: - Created a Product "Test" that adds a SimpleItem Object (with presistent, aq.implicit, rolemanager). - In a instance of "Test" I create a attribute that is a reference to another object (DTML Method). - I find that the reference survives Cut&Paste and ZODB Cache Flushes, and if I delete the original DTML Method I still can refer to it through my "Test" instance. Nothing really strange about that. My questions! Is this correct to do this or can I get my self in trouble doing direct reference in this way? What are the roll of the _SetObject() method? And that is the function of the _objects tuple? And what does the _p_changed. Newbie MySQLDA help

After a frustrating afternoon of getting nowhere I turn to the list for help. I am trying to get Zope, MySQL and MySQLDA installed. I am a relative newbie to Linux and Zope, but I can follow instructions like a champion. First observation - Digital Creations seems to have depreciated support for MySQLDA. I did find the DA at the old site : http://www.zope.org:8080/Download/ZMySQLDA Unfortunately, the instructions at the above URL seem a little strange in that half way through it starts referring to ZSolidDA ? In any case,' make -f Makefile.pre.in boot' doesn't work. I get the same error reported by another user [see http://www.egroups.com/list/zope/md78304253.html] So then I tried another tack : installing the MySQLdb package from http://starship.python.net/crew/adustman/ which seems to include a patch to MySQLDA. So I unpack a fresh copy of Zope2.01, unpack MySQLDA 1.1.3. I don't install or make anything figuring I should apply all the patches before I install anything. I then try to run "python build.py" from the MySQLdb package. Unfortunately, the MySQLdb installation instructions are a little brief. In any case I get an error "/usr/lib/python1.5/config/MakeFile.pre.in: no such file or directory exists", which is no surprise because it doesn't exist. Do I have to create this directory ? Where should I unpack the MySQLdb package ? Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated. Accessing objects properties

Testing document properties

Hi, I have several DTML Doc named "caso" each of them in a diferent directory. Two of these "caso" documents have a property called "idioma" with type string and value "en". The others do not have this property. In the parent directory I have another document in which I want to check this property *when* available. So I do: <dtml-if caso.idioma> <dtml-if "caso.idioma == 'en'"> <h2>What is your diagnosis?</h2> <dtml-else> <h2>¿Cual es su diagnóstico?</h2> </dtml-if> <dtml-else> <h2>¿Cual es su diagnóstico?</h2> <**** </dtml-if> I want to test if this property exists. If it exists and its value is "en" then print a text in English. Otherwise print it in Spanish. The above DTML code always returns the text marked with "<****". I've tried puttin the first if in double quotes like <dtml-if "caso.idioma"> but it fails when the document does not have this property. Thanx for any help. Regards, Rafa -- Linux.
