Bad use of XML Document??

I am trying to use XML Document to upload my stylesheets also. Is this a no-no? If you edit an externel method, you can just click on "Edit" in the particular external method object and Zope will reload the method for you. If you edit a Python zproduct, yes, you -will- have to restart the Zope server, again, and again and again. I've done it hundreds of times just today. Python zproduct development should definitely be done on a non-production server for this reason. -Jeff Rush

Friends of Zope, What is the best way to backup and restore a Zope installation? I wish to move a demo zope installation PC to a production PC. I have tried the export/import function but it seem to only do subdirectories and it did not like the database connections. Thanks

SQL Session v.0.1.1 released.

At http://www.zope.org/Members/anthony/software/SQLSession/, you'll find the first public release of my SQLSession Zope Product. This product provides server-side sessions, backed by a SQL database for storing all the data. Why would you use this? It's a way to replace passing all sorts of junk around inside hidden fields, or (ick) inside lots of different cookies. Note that this is not the earlier SQL Session product I've mentioned here in the past - after hacking around trying to do something that was far far too fiddly, I came up with a cleaner solution and just wrote a new one from scratch. aaaanyway, the usual caveats apply - this is the first public release, if it eats your data, sets your cat on fire, and borrows the car without asking, don't come crying to me. (but send patches). readme from the release follows. Have fun, let me know if this is useful to you, and suggestions/fixes/&c. Anthony ------- README for SQL Session, v 0.1.1 SQL Session This is a server-side session object that stores all state in an SQL database. Usage: create an SQL Session object (it will be called 'Session') in all documents that want to use Sessions, put, at the top <dtml-call Session> (I'd suggest putting it in your standard_html_header) This does a few things: It looks for a session cookie (by default called _ZSession, but that's something you can just set). If it finds one, it looks in the database to check that this is an ok cookie to use. If it doesn't find a cookie, or it finds that the Session is a dud, or if the request has the parameter '_force_new_session', it will create a new Session in the DB, then send back a cookie with that session in it. Next, it creates a SessionObj called 'SESSION', and puts it in the REQUEST object (so REQUEST['SESSION'] - just like REQUEST['RESPONSE']). This looks and acts like a dictionary, only it pulls its data out of the DB, and sets data in the DB. It supports the following: __getitem__, __setitem__, set, keys, values, items From here on inside the document, you can do things like <dtml-var "SESSION.set('someitem', 'somevalue')"> <dtml-var "SESSION['someitem']"> and it will just be squirrelled away in the DB. The Gory Details, #1: SQL schema: The default SQL schema is pretty dumb, but it should work on everything (I test on gadfly). create table sessions ( session varchar ) create unique index sessions_idx on sessions(session) create table session_data ( session varchar, name varchar, value varchar ) A smarter one (like the one I use :) would use a sequence or similar to create a session_id, and use that in a key in session_data. Anyway, you don't have to use this schema - go edit the sql methods in the session (pull up it's management interface). The Gory Details, #2: Storing objects: Right now the SessionObj stores base64 encoded pickles. It does no caching of results, and is, in fact, almost entirely stupid. It really should have some simple amounts of caching of lookups. (sessionObjs are created for each request, so they don't have to worry about getting out of sync with the db.) The nice thing about storing things this way is, of course, that you can stuff almost anything into it. The bad thing is, of course, that you can stuff almost anything into it. Make sure your definition of the session_data table makes the value column sufficiently large for your needs! To Do: * Housekeeping. Right now the SQL Session as is does no housekeeping of the DB itself. I would _suggest_ that this would be something that people would do on a case by case basis. What you could do is put an extra column in the session table, like 'expires' or some such, set to 'now' + 30 minutes, then have something go through and nuke the data. It's probably not something to put inside Zope - unless the Scheduler re-appears. * Cookie Expiry. Yeah, yeah, the cookie needs to expire. Next version. * More testing. It's been, ahem, lightly tested. It Works For Me. Your Mileage May Vary. * Fix Bugs, add features, all that stuff. Whatever. Q: How to replace images through form + dtml

I've been trying to crack the following problem with no success: I'm inside a folder: 1999 10 10001 (unique article folderish object) parrot (image file inside folderish article) edit (dtml-form for editing article properties) postit (dtml-method for handling edit-form submissions) What I want to do is activate the edit method from within article folder to edit the article and it's included image in order to replace the image with another one. I can access edit method ok and all the article properties including the contained images are displayed in the edit form as I want. I can even click on the <image type=file name=image1> button to choose another file from my local hard disk to replace the image inside that article (in this case I want to replace "parrot" with "birdy"). I can successfully send this form with the included image to the postit method. Once inside the postit method, I have the following debugging code: <dtml-if "REQUEST.image1"> - Does the form include an included image? Inside the REQUEST.image1 loop - tell I'm inside the if-clause parrot=<dtml-var parrot> - show the contents of the parrot image image1=<dtml-var image1> - show the contents of the image1 property making the dtml-call to replace the image <dtml-call "parrot.manage_upload(REQUEST['image1'])"> After dtml-call parrot=<dtml-var parrot> - show the contents of the parrot image image1=<dtml-var image1> - show the contents of the image1 property </dtml-if> When I run it I get: Inside the REQUEST.image1 loop parrot=[picture of parrot here] image1=c:\file\path\from\disk\birdy.jpg making the dtml-call to replace the image parrot=[same picture of parrot, unchanged] image1=c:\file\path\from\disk\birdy.jpg My picture of parrot does not get replaced with the picture of image1 (i.e. birdy.jpg). What am I doing wrong? I get no error message from any of the methods (as far as I can tell). Tutorial request

Hi everybody, I'm wondering if somebody already created this and wants to learn it to everybody. It's about a very basic thing, but which lot's of people could learn from. I want to creat a Address-book in Zope. A person can add, edit or delete his address. He can view all adresses and sort them by first/last name, zip-code. How will we have to start implementing this? What's the best way? Put all the addresses into Zope or into a database? Do we need Python? Or can everything be done with ZClasses? Anybody ideas or wants to write a tutorial? If not, I'll write the tutorial, but before that, I need someone (or more) who will create this application into Zope. I don't know, but I think that this example will help newbies a lot... Tom.

Zcatalog and PrincipiaSearchSource with Zclasses ?

>From what i gather, the PrincipiaSearchSource variable let you do a full text search in DTML-documents and methods... It seems, though, that this doesn't work with Zclass-instances.. Is there any way to do a full text search of Zclass instances ?? for example i'd like to be able to search among my 'newsdoc' instances, not only by title, author or content, but with a single form-field.. Acquisition Problem

I have a Folder structure which looks something like this: FolderA FolderB FolderC In FolderA I have a DTMLMethod which iterates over all of its subfolders and invokes a method for each folder in turn called "sidebarTitle". The actual implementation of sidebarTitle resides in FolderA. It does some work and then attempts to invoke methods which are defined in FolderB and FolderC. When the iterating method gets invoked in FolderA it properly invokes the sidebarTitle method. However, when the sidebarTitle method tries to invoke the methods which are defined in FolderB and FolderC I get a KeyError message. I can't figure out why the DTMLMethod isn't being found. My actual code looks like this: DTMLMethod rsidebar (Defined in FolderA) <dtml-let originator=id> <dtml-with FolderA> <dtml-in "objectValues(['Folder'])" sort=folderOrder> <dtml-var "sidebarTitle(sender=id, base=originator)"> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> DTMLMethod sidebarTitle (Defined in FolderA) <dtml-if "sender == base"> <dtml-var expandedSidebar> <dtml-else> <dtml-var simpleSidebar> </dtml-if> DTMLMethod expandedSidebar (Defined in FolderB) Expanded FolderB Content DTMLMethod simpleSidebar (Defined in FolderB) Simple FolderB Content DTMLMethod expandedSidebar (Defined in FolderC) Expanded FolderC Content DTMLMethod simpleSidebar (Defined in FolderC) Simple FolderC Content If I change the code in the sidebarTitle method to simply display text rather than attempting to invoke the expandedSidebar and simpleSidebar methods, the output is what I would expect to see. Using "global" images in /root/subfolder

Let's assume the following structure of a site /root /global_images mail_png link_png /content some_content (DTML document) In some_content, I would like to use something to the effect of <dtml-var mail_png> to take advantage of the image "mapping" provided by Zope. But how can I address mail_png? The goal is to address a few global images from any location on the site with the least amount of work possible. I am as far as <dtml-var globalImage> in "some_content". "globalImage" is a DTML document in /root that contains <dtml-var graphics.mail_png> to directly access the image. For the less interesting parts <dtml-var "graphics.mail_png"> <dtml-with "graphics"> <dtml-var "mail_png"> </dtml-with> <dtml-with "graphics"> <dtml-with "_.namespace(AName='mail_png')"> <dtml-var "mail_png"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> <dtml-with "graphics"> <dtml-with "_.namespace(AName='mail_png')"> <dtml-var "_['AName']"> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> works, but unfortunately, <dtml-var "_['AName']"> emits "mail_png" as the *text*, not the image. IOW, I am stuck. Oh, I have no clue how to pass a parameter to the DTML document, so that I can say <dtml-var name="globalImage(AName='mail_png')"> <dtml-var name="globalImage(AName='link_png')"> or whatever works. Please be gentle and explicit. I have next to no idea about Zope and Python and am just trying to "port" an existing static web site to Zope to get started. Thanks!
