Zope 2.x bug in loading products

After further experiments, I am ready to call my earlier report a bug. In brief: After a failed import of a product which results in a traceback, if the bug is fixed but the product still won't load, the product manager still reports a failed load with the old traceback. Here are more details. I will upload a zip file with the offending product to my zope site when this is done. I have reproduced the results under Zope 2.0.1 and 2.1.0b2. I am running on NT 4, SP 4. Here's the sequence to reproduce the problem: 1) Unzip OrgUser in the Products directory. 2) Edit the 3rd line of OrgUser.py to read import nonsense 3) start zope 4) Go to the management control panel, products. OrgUser is reported as a broken product, with a traceback indicating a failure to import nonsense. This is *not* the bug; it is proper behavior. 5) Shutdown Zope 6) Edit OrgUser.py to comment out import nonsense 7) Restart Zope 8) The management control panel for products still shows the same as in step 4. This *is* a bug, since that line no longer exists. I presume there is some other problem with the product which prevents if from loading. 9) If you want shutdown Zope and delete the database. Recreate it. Now you will see no report of OrgUser in the Products listing. This indicates that when the product fails to load, it leaves the old error message in place. I suspect this problem may be caused by a problem in the interaction of error reporting with transactions boundaries. I see that when there's an error, various actions are taken and then the transaction is aborted. Perhaps this throws out the correct error information.

Create a list in the REQUEST space ????

Help!, We are trying to load user roles from a table. roles needs to be a list so that the manage_users call can set the roles. The question is how does one create a list on the fly in the REQUEST Space...? Using recursion with a SQL method

All, I have a MySQL table "category" with the following schema: id number name char parent_id number The table is self-referencing in that the parent_id points back to an ID. This structure renders a hierarchical listing of categories, with the root categories having a parent_id of -1. I have a SQL method to select category names and IDs by their parent ID: ID: Query_category_by_parid Arguments: parent_id:required:int Query: select id, name from category where <dtml-sqltest parent_id type=int> order by name I have a DTML method which calls itself recursively to find a list of categories starting with the specified parent: ID: list_categories <dtml-in "Query_category_by_parid(parent_id=parent_id)"> <dtml-var name> (<dtml-var id>) <dtml-var "list_categories(parent_id=id)"> </dtml-in> This however, doesn't work. It appears that the second call to Query_category_by_parid, within the second call to list_categories, fails. DateTime help

My proxy is apparently not working well ( what else is new...), so I can't get to www.zope.org. Maybe someone can help me with this simple DateTime problem. I have a variable, accessible as <dtml-var lastLoginTime>. the value is functionally equivalent to int(time.time()). How can I turn this into a DateTime object within dtml so that I may format it eg, fmt=AMPM ? Thanks, Bill Scherer

Nesting ZClasses

Hello, I'd like to nest ZClasses in the following way: TestFolderClass --- TestTopicClass --- --- TestItemClass Both FolderClass and TopicClass subclass ObjectManager. The problem is that I'd like to be able to add Item instances both in Topic instances and directly in Folder instances. Also I'd like to nest Topics. The following cases should all be allowed: TestFolder -- TestItem1 -- TestItem2 -- TestTopic1 -- -- TestItem3 -- -- TestItem4 -- -- TestTopic3 -- -- -- TestItem5 -- TestTopic2 etc. - If both TopicClass and ItemClass are defined at the same level (directly in FolderClass), I cannot nest Item in Topic (Item is not available on the Subobjects tab). - If ItemClass is defined in TopicClass then I cannot add Items directly in TestFolders (Item is not available on FolderClass's Subobjects tab). The only solution I can think of is creating an independant ZClass Product called Items. Then it will be available anywhere. But it messes up the Available Objects list. Is there a better solution ? Is it just me or is the calendar product misssing from the Zope site again? I'd like to setup three calendars on one page... I have the name thing working so I can have three, but I'd like to have this month as well as last and next months. I can't figure how to get the date to the calendar so that it likes it. odbc database adapter ... problem with "like"

Hello all! Is there a problem when using "LIKE" with the ODBC database adapteor? If you notice, the error message says alike instead of like. Is this normal? Is there a better way to perform a look up similar to this?
