Help with ZODB Howto?

Hi All! I've just joined the Zope list after about a fortnight of reading documentation and experimenting with what Zope can do. I've done a fair bit of CGI programming using Python as the scripting language, so Zope seems a good choice for me to work with. My first impessions, both of Zope and the resources available to support it are very favorable but I think its now time to ask about a few things that I'm having problems with. Firstly I want to reproduce the functionality of a simple database that I have written in Python using the shelve module. To this end I've read up on ZODB and looked at the existing Howto. For experimenting, using the file storage method is fine. I'm assuming that I can test the code in the Howto running it outside of the Zope environment as standalone Python (after correcting the closing bracket typo and adding some wrapper code of course). Unfortunately this fails miserably in a way I would expect if this Howto was targeted at a previous version of ZODB; I'm running version 2.0.1 on Linux. Any clues here or similar first steps examples of use of ZODB people can recommend? On a similar track, I very much like the object database technology supporting the Zope framework and would like to play with putting a very simple key:value mapping object into the *same* database that holds my Folders and DTML documents. Are then any examples of code doing this I can look at, or alternatively have I completely lost the plot in even wanting to try this? I now feel ZCache might be useful in real websites. I think it's secure, but I'm not certain - testing would be very much appreciated. importing RSS files (SiteSummary product)

Hi everyone, I'm afraid I've bumped into the limit of my Zope and Python knowledge here. Edd says in the README for his cool SiteSummary product: "If you want your Site Summary to import data on a regular basis, you can write a program which fetches the URL: http://www.mysite.com/mySummary/importFromURL?url=http://xmlhack.com/rss.php and adjust the url parameter for the RSS file you wish to acquire." Now let's say that I'd like to display the news from Zope.org on my site. The RSS file is at http://www.zope.org/SiteIndex/news.rss It's obviously poor manners to get the RSS file directly from the site every time the page is requested. What would be the best strategy to display the news on my Linux-based server? I'm really not sure how to proceed here. How do I make an external object persistent?

Hi, I'm new to Zope. I have classes that I want to use in Zope without making them Products. How can I inject the Zope namespace with an object so it remains persistent? presenting users with different Views of a tree

Hi, before i have mailed the Question wether it's possible to present users with a filtered view on a hierachical tree with respect to tree items with the same Identification. as far as i now understand by reading docu it should be very easy in Zope thanks to the tree tag ? is that right ? thanks Micha ----snip only to connect the above statement to my previous mail--- i have sub1 sub1 sub 2 sub3 main sub7 sub1 sub8 as hierachical tree and the user shall seeafter a request or search Category1 Category2 Category3 sub1 sub1 sub3 -- :-)

WebDav & MS Word problem - CANNOT SAVE

Any idea why saving on Zope (as WebFolder) does not work from MS Word 2000? When zope is asking for passwrd, I log in as the Zope superuser, so the prob is not there. I've got Zope working fine as a WebDav server, when moving files via NT Explorer. But trying to work straight from MS Word is read-only. It seems the files are always opened read-only from Word when they are stored on (Zope) WebDav server. The file props don't say it's readonly though (regular NT fileprops). Another MS quirk? "WebDav support", but not from Office? Or with servers other than IIS? Let me be wrong... Thanks, Petri
