hi! my problems installing Zope get even more mysterious: - i managed to get Zope working perfectly on a RedHat 5.2 machine. - the SUSE 5.3 Linux machine has problems running the shipped python interpreter ("bash: bin/python: No such file or directory") and the pcgi wrapper ("bash: pcgi/bin/pcgi-wrapper: No such file or directory"). the files do exists, though :) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - i do have a stable working version of python 1.5.1 installed. is it possible to use that one instead? when i replaced the python binary, the installation worked fine, however the pcgi wrapper still didn't work. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - the shipped http server's var/serve.errors file contains: Traceback (innermost last): File "serve.py", line 104, in ? Mailhost fix

I know the Mailhost is on the buglist, and that DC wants to fix it using a standard package. But if you really need to use it, and your sendmail host doesn't accept the mail that MailHost generates (because of the lack of \r\n line endings, and the ignorance of 4xx status codes), I patched the existing MailHost.py. My version uses \015\12 as lineendings, so it won't break on any platform (I hope), and sees 4xx errors as fatal. The patch can be downloaded from http://www.xs4all.nl/~zmj/Zope/MailHost.1.9.0.patch or http://www.xs4all.nl/~zmj/Zope/MailHost.1.10.0pr1.patch (1.9.0 contains the old license, so the line numbers differ) Just do 'patch MailHost.py MailHost.<version>.patch'. As I don't trust the eGroups interface as far as I can throw it, here is my message again: Kevin, this is what you want to do:  <P>  </P>  _.getitem() retrieves an item from the namespace, given the id of the item. Just _.getitem(sequence-item, 0) won't do, because it is interpreted as sequence - item, so you have to use the _['sequence-item'] construct. Within the with tag you are then within the namespace of the requested object, so  gives you the right title. You might want to use _.has_key(_['sequence-item']) first, to check wether the object actually exists.. _.getitem() has a second argument BTW, a flag that specifies wether or not the retrieved object should be 'called'. I think that in this context it should be 0, i.e. don't call the object. I assume it otherwise retrieves the default representation of the item, like a folder's index_html, which you don't want to do probably. I haven't experimented with this flag as yet. Ok, some more discoveries, that really should have been obvious to me: if you want a UserDb to work, it's got to be in a folder where Anonymous can view stuff, and execute SQL methods. Is there a list of what the different security settings allow? What's the difference between 'View' and 'Access Contents Information'? What is needed to allow someone access to a subfolder, but not to the top folder? Anthony

ZPublisher guestbook.py

I got stuck implementing the examples in "A Technical Introduction to Object Publishing with Zope" <http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Reference/ObjectPublishingIntro> with the stand-alone ZPublisher. In the "guestbook.py" example, what should be the URL invoked to show the form? The module is called guestbook.py, the class is GuestBook and the method is defined as "def guestbookForm(self)". I've been succesful installing and runnig the previous examples but in this case I don't know what should be the first URL called to run the Guestobook application. If I type: <http://localhost/cgi-bin/GuestBook.zcgi/GuestBook> I get this: -- GuestBook.GuestBook -- (The Guesbook __repr__?) I just figured the problem out, sorry to bother you with this... I volunteer to write a How-to about installing and running the examples in "A Technical Introduction to Object Publishing with Zope", if anyone thinks this would be worthwhile. For the sake of anyone who might get confused with this issue, here is the URL required to run the guestbook.py example (in my machine): <http://localhost/cgi-bin/GuestBook.zcgi/myGuestBook/guestbookForm> In my example: - GuestBook.zcgi is the customized 'cgi-template' mentioned in the cgi/README file that comes with ZPublisher. It is configured with: PUBLISHED_MODULE = 'GuestBook' INCLUDE_PATHS = ['/apache/zmodules'] - The source file of the example, GuestBook.py is placed in /apache/zmodules - myGuestBook is the GuestBook instantiated in the last line of GuestBook.py Maybe a sample URL should be included in the "Technical Introduction", since the GuestBook is the first concrete example of a real object being published (the previous examples only publish stand-alone functions).
